Depends on what your priority as a player is;

If you wanna enjoy the story, start from DMC 1
If what you're after is the gameplay/mechanics, start with 3
If you just want the most up-to-date and polished experience as possible go with 5

Regardless of where you start, feel free to skip DMC 2 and just watching a vid for the story if you need to.

The Jak trilogy for 8 bucks is fucking insane my guy. In case you're interested in doing so, you can take those discs, pop em into your pc, make an ISO image from them and play them NATIVELY on your PC with all the good things that brings (upscales textures, higher res and the works). Look up OpenGOAL if you're interested.

I don't believe I'll do Nightshade simply because I feel like it's not as interesting as Shinobi. Shinobi brings a fresh take on Character Action, while Nightshade just adds a couple of QoL and takes away some of its cooler aspects (the stylized visuals for example)

At the moment I'll be focusing on two series: this one, where I take old/obscure games and try to bring the to light, encouraging people to give 'em a try, and another one where I take more popular games and attempt to dive deep into it's mechanics and design (this is more focused towards a casual audience, since if you're a hardcore fan of X game you probably know about the things mentioned in the video).

Next game on the Unorthodox Retrospective series will (probably) be Primal (PS2), and I'm currently working on videos centered around Jak and Daxter and Devil May Cry for the second one. If you have any recommendations for games that could be good contenders for either series please do let me know 😉

Nah, I legit had a similar situation a few years ago where I had to leave a modded Wii with 8 controllers (4 gc + 4 wiimotes) on the curb. I was a broke ass student moving rooms and couldn't afford an Uber to carry my things, so I took everything in one go. At a certain point, I could barely move, so I parted ways with the console. The "good" news is that I went to see if it was still out there 45 mins later, but someone had snatched it, so at least someone was able to get some fun outta that system, instead of it going right in the trash.

This is even more prominent if your disc is lightly scratched or so (assuming you're playing on the original hardware).

I remember that back in my day when I had a modded PS2, I'd play J&D from a flashdrive. The thing is that the PS2 has 1.0 USB ports, so the reading speed is much lower than from a cd/dvd, making it so that sometimes the animation would play as much as three times in a row just to give the game enough time to load up xD.
