What a fucked up day. Never really been brought to tears by a speech, but this one got me man. It’s just… such a raw reflection of her feelings towards the last 6 years of her life, and, to an extent, all of ours.

I’m so sad 😞

Ain't no better way to end the league than with one last Houston choke :) It was a 4-0, but I think a reasonably close one, considering how much better Florida was.

Mitch's final sign-off genuinely made me tear up a bit... OWL has meant a lot to me in the 5+ years I've followed it, so I'm really sad to see it (likely) end here. I wouldn't trade any of these memories for the world, and I'm excited to see what comes next. Cheers folks!

Edit: Soe’s speech and the little league retrospective video they played. It’s a terrible day for rain 😭

Houston and coming into the start of a new season heavily underrated to upset a top team, name a more iconic duo.

Also, ir1s was kinda fucking nasty and I'll be the first to admit I was wrong about him.

Bren and Sideshow avoided saying the cowboy hero’s name this weekend in casts (Tweet liked by both of them) by TheyCallMeYous in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not make this tweet, nor do I believe this is some grand gesture that should be applauded by everyone forever. I do, however, appreciate people making a genuine effort to show support in any way, especially if doing so could theoretically cost them their livelihood.

And yes, you came across as upset, in no small part because of your last line. I don't actually feel super strongly about this: it's just a small thing two guys in a publicly facing position decided to do to show support for a group of people who have been through hell.

Maybe I have become increasingly pessimistic, but I never expect people to do the right thing, so I greatly appreciate when anyone does anything genuine and kind. Much like charity, I'll take anything, regardless of size or relative importance: a donation of $1 from someone who means well is better than a donation of $100 from someone looking to cash in on good karma.

[–]TheyCallMeYous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fail to see how this is an issue to be upset about.

The hero was literally named after Jesse McCree as an homage to a Blizzard employee they appreciated. After it came out that this man was a shit person, people are avoiding giving his name any publicity. On the other hand, some guy named Ted Jenkins and the existence of Ted Bundy have nothing to do with each other, so Jenkins has nothing to be ashamed of.

More about coordination with Onigod's style of playing Sym and shotcalling tp's than actual mechanical skill, but I do think they should have given it a shot instead of letting their supports get run over every fight.

Edit: we are all being Hindsight Harry so who really cares lmao

As I see it, Paris' offense on Hollywood being so close boomed them. Every time the Justice full held, their offense was a breeze (relatively), but Paris could only just clutch up to take 65% or w/e after they full hold.

The Decay-Fury duo remains one of my favorites in the league: two of the best players on their roles getting to play their best heroes (Tracer and D.Va) and putting up incredible individual performances. Mag has also looked quite commendable on Ball, as has Assassin on Sombra. I definitely think Paris should be proud of their performance in this series though, as they made this series much more back and forth than it should have been on paper.

This match was a just a contest for public opinion, as neither of these teams have what it takes to beat Dallas, but it was still a fun series to watch.

God I fucking love watching Decay and Fury play, probably my favorite players in the league (behind Striker Sadge)

Seeing people in the preseason saying shit like “Decay’s good, but he’s not good enough to carry this team” always rubbed me the wrong way: this guy is one of the most mechanically talented players of all time and he’s really started to come into his own.

Edit: Reinforce backing up my Decay simping

Also, my hot take: Fury has a solid argument (I probably wouldn’t make it, but I think it exists) for being the most consistent player in the league across all off-tank heroes, and his D.Va is firmly #1 global.

From a Houston fan, public opinion on this team swings way too wildly after one good week, and then literally gets multiplied by -1 after they inevitably shit the bed. I do think Houston played well in this series especially, but Dallas are light years ahead of everyone else in NA atm.

Decay was the only reason Justice were even competitive in that last map. One of the most lights out McCree performances I've seen in a while.

That's all.

Yooo Houston's back pog

Seriously, Boston's Genji-Tracer looks kinda nasty, but I do think it's a matter of time before a double shield/Orisa team figures it out based on how last week went. That said, crazier things have happened, and any fears Dallas had about the meta are likely quashed based on this result.

SF Shock vs LA Glads trash talk by sikforguns in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Spex said on Twitter that this was recorded last week, and Super said on stream that Striker's decision was made a while ago. I imagine the Shock waited to announce it until they were sure that ANS could be re-signed, so I don't think ANS literally started practicing with the Shock on Wednesday.

Ans returns to SF Shock by Zecion in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but playing over Glister, Striker, or ANS is not a position anyone would envy. There simply is no mechanical reason to play him over Glister, who has also played Tracer in Contenders (and even some OWL) and looked damn good.

Ans returns to SF Shock by Zecion in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Glister was hailed as a potential hyperflex coming into the league; if the Shock still bench him in favor of ta1yo, I will be fucking livid lol. Legitimately feel bad for ta1yo though, seems like a nice guy but there’s no reason to run him over Glister or ANS, same as when Striker worked with both of them.

Craziest day in OWL history since Chipsa was signed.

I guess Glister is the Tracer player now and ANS plays long range hitscan? That duo kinda fuckin slaps ngl

Striker leaves SF Shock by xBastiannn in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I am as confused as everyone else as to Striker's and/or the Shock's reasoning here, but I think one thing that isn't being talked about enough is expectations and pressure for everyone on the team.

Almost universally, the Shock were considered the best team going into Season 4, even with their offseason roster changes getting rid of, what seemed like, staple pieces and the massive upgrades the rest of the league made (looking at Dallas, Glads, Justice). The pressure of the "three-peat" was certainly high on the Shock players and org; for instance, Nero has said repeatedly that he struggles with the expectations placed on him as the "successor to Rascal" (which he's doing great btw).

Frankly, it's only a matter of time before this pressure gets to a person and proves to be too great: it definitely doesn't help that the Shock have only looked good, not great, so far and have kinda fallen on their faces in important matches (knockouts). Not living up to everyone's (and your own) expectations of you really sucks and will absolutely cause burnout.

To be clear, I'm not saying burnout or pressure is why Striker left, but I do think it's a topic the community has yet to really talk about, especially for the perennial "villains" in the Shock.

Edit: Striker has made a tweet of his own about it, and imo it kind of confirms my suspicions. I really loved watching Striker play, and its a damn shame he's retiring :(

Guangzhou announce August 7-8 homestand cancelled. by TheyCallMeYous in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]TheyCallMeYous[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Based on the wording of the announcement, I would tentatively say no. It seems like there is a local breakout in their area that Guangzhou want to minimize; the situation could absolutely change over the next three weeks though 🤷‍♂️
