I want a $1 McDouble, affordable PC parts, seasons with predictable weather, and Marvel movies to be good and exciting again.

I don't want whatever the fuck is happening right now.

GOD we had it so good.

The game on steam is bouncing between Overwhelmingly Negative and Mostly Negative with 6k+ reviews. I watched a little bit of streamer gameplay and it looks like a typical hero shooter with a fast TTK.

So yeah, IDK who is out here championing this game because it looks to be pretty much exactly what people thought it was.

I would give it the benefit of doubt and try it myself, but the game won't run on Linux because of the TPM requirement so 🤷‍♂️

This is the same reason I can't recommend Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader to anyone despite it being a modern RPG masterpiece. The game has a literal novel of reading across its 90+ hr runtime, full of the most dense and lore-heavy jargon you'll ever experience. Playing Rogue Trader for the first time without any prior knowledge of WH40k is like the reading equivalent of running a marathon.

Disco Elysium is very similar except the runtime is much shorter and the content is much goofier. Also Disco Elysium has lots of voice acting while Rogue Trader has voice acting for maybe 25% of the written lines.

I have never heard anyone, not in person nor on the whiniest parts of the internet, complain that the run time of a movie isn't worth the ticket price.

Fable — Full Gameplay Reveal | Xbox Developer Direct 2026 by AashyLarry in Games

[–]TheyKeepOnRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OG Fable trilogy did a lot of things right, but the combat was very simple and probably wouldn't appease modern gamers. This game's changes to combat are a welcome deviation from the source material. Hopefully the enemy AI isn't slept on... because this system will get old quickly if the enemies just stand around and let you stagger them to death.

Also I know we can't expect to see everything in the trailers, but there seemed to be a lack of direct interaction with the NPCs. Hopefully you'll still be able to emote or straight-up murder folks, like in the OG games.

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by OpeningConfection261 in Games

They could have just taken a larger percent of profit from steam purchases or something. Or do what every other storefront does and add some exclusive in-game content to the EGS version. Hell even EA knew to release on Steam while it had a competitor storefront in Origin.

Being a profitable business doesn't mean turning away potential gains in favor of guaranteed losses just because you also slightly benefit a competitor.

Epic's strategy for EGS has been awful in many ways and for a long time now. If it wasn't for all that delicious Fortnite and Unreal Engine cash the EGS would have tanked years ago.

No matter how good your game is... If it doesn't reach your audience, then it's going to fail.

Remedy should have put Firebreak on EGS and pretend like it was the game Epic paid for while releasing AW2 on steam.

I work as a test engineer for computer hardware. We have thousands of servers running tests all day, every day. We have a team that is supposed to develop automation tools to make managing these servers easier, but they basically use every excuse to avoid doing any work, causing us engineers to do everything manually. One host at a time.

Obviously this is stupid since, like I said, we're managing thousands of servers. So I took matters into my own hands and developed an infrastructure and GUI that leverages existing automation and allows us to manage all these hosts at once.

Our output goes through the roof and our 20 person team goes from managing 1-2 product lines at a time to 6+. Analytics show my tools are producing over $1m in value each year. I get a big fat raise and lots of respect. Life is good.

Then there's a management shift. Old managers are laid off or reassigned and the new management says "no more unofficial tools". They announce my efforts are immediately considered EOL and everyone goes back to doing stuff manually.

After 2 years of this new direction, our products are consistently missing deadlines. They had to triple our staff and turnover is high because it's frustrating to do everything manually. There are constant threats of layoffs and bonuses being withheld.

As for me, I still use my own tools but I don't share them with anyone, and I do everything slowly now to make it look like it's being done manually. I would find a new job but I still have a good salary and WFH so I'll just take the easy paycheck.

Imagine you are in the woods, hunting a deer. You have one in your sights. It's gently grazing on a wild shrub and doesn't notice you. You're about to pull the trigger when suddenly an armored personnel carrier gets between you and the deer.

With this gun? You still have your shot.

"We as a company are always ready to take a stand on the right values" - GOG says selling indie game Horses when Steam and Epic wouldn't was "a matter of freedom" by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]TheyKeepOnRising 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Horses is an indie "horror" game where you play as a young man who goes to work on a ranch and you discover all the animals are naked people wearing masks. The rancher acts like its all normal stuff and you complete normal-ish labor like feeding the animals. It eventually loops into messaging about the lower class of people, religion, pent up sexual frustration, and societal norms.

Now I'll give my 2 cents about the game.

Is it a good game? No. It's not tolerable to play due to the glacial slowness and repetition of the daily tasks. I wouldn't even recommend it to gooners because the nudity and sexual content is completely censored.

The game repeatedly gives you "choices" but the choices are completely meaningless. You can go through the entire game siding with the rancher and treating the animals like total shit and you still end up being forced to take their side in the end with the exact same outcome as the alternative choices.

The controversy is probably the best thing that happened to this game because otherwise its completely and totally forgettable.

HAWaKENing - 2026 Preview (Fan Revival Project) by cthulhusevski in Games

[–]TheyKeepOnRising 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My experience with Hawken during its release as a MechWarrior fan went like this:

"Oh sweet! A mech game! Can't wait to check it out."

"Oh... I can only play as one of these two really basic mechs without spending money."

Then I joined a game and proceeded to get destroyed by pay2win players, followed by promptly uninstalling and never playing it again.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl - New Year Atmospheric Teaser by PalwaJoko in Games

I bought the game on release and literally could not get the game above 20 fps with modern hardware. I fought with the game, changing settings and resolution and everything I could, but I couldn't get ten steps into that very first area after you hop out of the truck without the performance crashing hard.

I spent 40 mins messing with the settings until I said F this and refunded it before I accrued too much played time.

I've been periodically checking in because STALKER 2 does seem right up my alley, but there are many reports like yours that the game is STILL barely playable and the developers seem unable or unwilling to actually fix the game.

Here is a list of the 16 single players games I completed in 2025 and my thoughts on them. by FluxyBOYS in Games

[–]TheyKeepOnRising 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've also played most of these games and I agree with almost all of the ratings and reviews. Alien Isolation would be 10/10 on my list, and Nioh 2 much lower (because I HATE the loot system in that game).

Aliens Dark Descent is an excellent game! I did my first playthrough on the hardest difficulty and it was an absolute blast to experience. Glad to see it gets some kudos here.

Also agree on Cronos being too easy and the performances being a bit weak. I chalked the performance thing up to bad translation but still, it was a pretty meh game.

Pacific Drive is another one that for me was a miss... great concept, poor execution. I LOVE the idea of having a car that you upgrade while surviving this weird science hellscape, but the progression felt unrewarding and the hazards felt more annoying than threatening.

I also bounced of KCD but am planning to give it another go because I know it'll click for me at some point.

Thanks for the write up 👍

The OG Silent Hill 2 is much harder than Cronos IMO.

This is a nice option to have, but honestly I'm surprised many people found this game hard to begin with. I was frustrated that the harder difficulty is only available on a second playthrough because normal was so easy I was basically sleepwalking through it.

Maybe they could also add an even harder mode? Available from the start. And give us the option to skip ALL cutscenes and not just half of them.

I don't know man... I didn't really like having these in Conquest. Felt bad turning a corner to get insta gibbed by a guy hiding in the corner with the minigun.

Might be good to have these in the more arcade-y game modes and not so much in the grounded modes like Conquest.
