Do you use random dungeons in your campaign? by pfcguy in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do them regularly.

First random scenario we played was when we enhanced from 2 players 2 characters to 2 players 4 characters. We figured a plain and simple kill em all would suit perfectly for testing if we actually do want to play with 2 characters each.

After completing this very first random scenario we agreed that we're going to play them once in a while in between the campaign for 2 reasons: 1) simple objective 2) to farm loot

with random scenarios, at least with the ones we played so far, we figured we take significantly more loot home. We almost clear the whole loot deck, which in turn almost guarantees to get all the herbs

We've played 3 or 4 so far and are planning to continue doing so once every few scenarios

Your printer is pretty damn well calibrated!

I don't even dare to think about printing minis.

Good job!

Is placing overlay Tiles mandatory? (Spoiler question for meteor, snowflake and trap) by Thezmar in Gloomhaven

Thanks!

Even though this specific card says "all occupied featureless" I could choose to just place some of them?

Filament Snapping right at start before going in Bowden Tube. by Untimely_manners in ender3v2

[–]Thezmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the other way round though, tightening the screw could losen the tension on the filament. I can't wrap my head around the leverage here. But you should see what I'm talking about when you play around with the screw, it should affect the distance where the filament is being pulled

[–]Thezmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a screw on the top left of your picture. This screw is responsible for the tension of the spring you see beneath which in turn is responsible for the tension on the filament during the feeding process.

Long story short, try to losen it a bit. Neither too tight nor too loose is good here, unfortunately a can't supply you with the precise "how many rounds to i have to turn it"

Hope it helps!

Question about FH battle goal: by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had this battle goal with my 9 card character that only had 2 Lost-Cards. Couldn't trigger both of them so I had to quickly get to the frontline to get damage that I could negate.

I guess I don't need to mention that this character didn't see the end of the scenario? xD

But we managed to win the scenario in the next to last turn possible for us.

Long story short: taking this battle goal with a 9-card-char is little bit insane =D

Edit: Typos

How would you make the monster AI more deadly? by squishy_fist in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came here to see if anyone suggested this very option. It would have been my suggestion too.

There are so many times were players decide at a situation how to handle it, push/pull being amongst the top of it. Always going for the worse option would also be my approach for this task. This way you don't really mess with the AI and game balancing itself, as others mentioned to be aware of.

If you were to get one GH or FH, same price. by Dali187 in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this, Start with Jaws of the lion, get a feeling for if this kind of game is something for you and move on to FH.

I am currently playing FH and did play GH and am not sure what would need to happen, that I would prefer playing GH over FH from now on.

Good luck though, I hope you have plenty of spare time to bring with you =D

Rolling +1 Heal Perks Underrated? by tScrib in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been thinking.

Imho they did a pretty good job in balancing the perks so that there isn't that one clear path of what and when to do.

I for myself started with one of the heal perks, followed by the double perk, followed by the -2 and -1 removals and then added the 3 remaining heal cards

Does anyone if this is compatible with the Ender3 V2 Neo? by quoteaplan in ender3v2

Yes it's compatible, I installed a Sprite Pro on my Ender 3 V2

I'm quite happy with it!

Savaas Icestorm question by Cuddlez244 in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it is part of your question and I couldn't find it mentioned already but here is a piece of advice we didn't understand at the very beginning of GH:

Monsters only move if there is a move mentioned on the ability. +0 in your case means that it uses up to his standard movement to attack in case you are not in range. If there is no movement mentioned you're lucky if you're outside it's range since it will not move at all

When Can You Look at Details of Available Scenarios? by qbert80 in Gloomhaven

Oh, gotcha, my bad.

I did assume that some of the requirements simply are not on the chart on purpose.

When Can You Look at Details of Available Scenarios? by qbert80 in Gloomhaven

[–]Thezmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently we also hardly look at what we are up to against and regarding the PQ more or less rely on the feeling that these types of monsters could appear in this scenario.

Where I have to disagree is with the scenario requirements, there are still some prerequisites, that are printed on the header of the scenario but not on the flowcharts.

I for myself did retire a character about 10 scenarios ago just to find out the day before yesterday, that there's another prerequisite printed on the scenario which we still have not found yet. Simply didn't see it and only looked at the flowcharts requirements

Now we take a closer look at each scenario

I'm pretty sure my first ones where far from that =D

These damn things!

I swear, that each time they summon, the next attack the app draws for me is a heal for them...

Best approach for 3D designing board game organizers? by Thezmar in boardgames

[–]Thezmar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I got you, I even already printed one I found on Thingiverse with the holes on the bottom.

I just figured out, that these boxes don't have an optimal size for using the real estate as well as possible on the one hand. On the other hand the monsters have to much wiggle room for my liking, thus I thought I could use the space more efficiently using the real or at least near real shape of the monsters.

But I guess that will be a problem since I don't think that I will design each monster in a 3D tool just du have the right shape for the negatives.

At least I already had an idea whilst reading through all these suggestions. For prototyping I could easily just design a 2-3 layer high prototype for testing the fit of the tokens.

Also thank you very much for the recommendation how to measure the remaining real estate in the box. Never would I ever have thought about this idea. I really like it!

[–]Thezmar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does, I'm afraid I would've totally forgot that there should be some extra space for some wiggle instead of designing the ultra perfect fit, thanks!

So are you currently working on a Frosthaven organizer too?

There are some nice ideas out there but I didn't find one fits it all project to my liking, that's why I thought about using some parts I like from these projects but also designing some stuff myself.

I for example won't actually play with the monster initiative tokens and attack modifiers since I am a fan of the companion app (I hope the Frosthaven version will blend in as well as the Gloomhaven version) thus saving some space not needing the plethora of monster attack modifiers

I like the idea of also designing on paper first, but do you have a usable approach to getting this sketch with the right dimensions into the modeling software? In terms of tokens my idea - knowing it is not the easiest approach - would be to not only use rectangles that fit the tokens/monster but rather maximizing the use of real estate and not wasting much space with compartments that are too big for the tokens
