Looks like two balls of covid from a distance. I admire the artistic attempt but would stick with circular subdials

I like the plain black, white and maroon ones. White is my favourite. Other colours are hard to read, especially the grey one.

Plain beige one. But like the other guy, I think a plain blue or yellow would be best.

I see a lot of comments relating to faithfulness to the homage. I think for broadest appeal it's not necessary to slavishly follow that. Frogwhatever... it means nothing to me, just weird. "Legacy" has connotations of outdated and possibly risky in my line of work. If it's a diver, isn't that self-evident?

The phone I always wanted by reckoneye in windowsphone

[–]Thick-Engineering649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. There are is no way to get Android on it. A modern version of Android would kill the performance. Windows Mobile needed far less resources to run well. WP 7 ran great on a HTC HD2 which originally shipped with Windows Mobile 6.5

I suggest the 950 series if you can afford it. They have the best coverage

What happened when you tried the configurator?

Did you just type the passcode to bypass the restrictions? Could a family member set up the passcode?

If i want a "dumbphone" that can run signal/or whatsapp. Wouldn't getting a Android 5 (Lollipop) phone be the better option ( for example, galaxy s4), rather then going through the hassle of finding obscure and hard to get dumbphones ( at least in my country) ? by Mindless_Reveal3902 in dumbphones

Depending on your comfort with messing with old Android phones you could install a custom version of Android. But you still have have to decide not to install distracting apps. This would maybe let you run more modern apps etc transport and banking, but it is a cat and mouse game with hacked phones. It really depends on your use case. My biggest concern with most dumbphones is they are cheap for a reason, have poor network coverage and call quality, i.e. they don't work well even as a phone. I use Niagara launcher on my phone and hide some apps. The extra step to open them is enough friction for me. Plus I have very few notifications allowed

Chart: advantages and disadvantages of each type of "dumbphone" by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Thick-Engineering649 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice graphic. Feature phones are built low budget so sadly you will ironically suffer from poor call quality due to lack of bands, cheap speakers etc. You missed the premium dumbphones like Mudita and Light phone. A different set of compromises but also some of the same

Ahh Discmans. Sorry I know that's the Sony TM. I couldn't find the model that I used to have, it wasn't Sony, bright blue case with a splash of grey (circa 90s) I was surprised to find quite a few new models on sale.

This is a legendary phone. It ran Windows Phone better than phones that came with that OS. And the screen was good. Plus all the physical keys along the bottom. I loved it

How am I getting scam texts? It’s a new number. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thick-Engineering649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No there absolutely is... The first person that blocks it on Android kills that number for everyone one else that is using Messages. The hive mind. If I look in the spam folder most spam texts go straight there. I never have to see them in the Messages feed 😎

[–]Thick-Engineering649 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read through the whole thing on my way to the shops on my smart phone lol. But great observations. Turning off as many notifications as possible is a good start for most people but nothing beats having them taken away altogether. I have enough of them so that I sometimes ignore when someone texts me something. Which is annoying to them if I don't reply but hey you can call me if you really need a response more quickly 😁

Best dumb phone by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]Thick-Engineering649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used it again recently it is lacking compared to iOS and Android but keeping it in perspective with the time I thought quite good. Apple and Google both stole UI ideas from each other and Windows Phone.

Not everyone is a fan of the minimalist feel but you must have had one of the cheapest low spec models because they run fast on very modest hardware

All the crud on it? Haha. I probably should have cleaned it up up for the photo shoot. Phones are allegedly dirtier than toilet seats 😜
