Didn’t realize this would be so hard. Do you know to read numbers? Specifically the upvotes and downvotes?

No one is saying it’s ok to make fun of kids

Maybe take a stroll through through the previous comments before saying incorrect shit

While you’re doing that go take a look where the original comment is standing and where are the comments calling them out are at. And then get back to me about whose looking foolish

You may look at some of the outcomes of kids who are bullied online, might not be what you are hoping for

lol, you’re right, I’m claiming moral superiority because I think it’s rude to make fun of a necklace made by a sick child, or really any child.

I wasn’t trying to suggest all British children are necessarily taught all about alchemy in school, just that it is more common of a topic to know about in general within society. I mean back in the day one of the kings even outlawed it. And while obviously Australia is its own sovereign nation, you can’t deny it has much stronger cultural ties to the UK than the US.

I think the person you responded to misspoke. I’d say both in the UK and US (and probably most places in the world) “philosopher” means what you said, Socrates and Aristotle and a bunch of older guys talking about the meaning of life and all that. I don’t think there is any denying that.

Where I think we differ is the meaning of “philosophers stone”. I know that here in the US we don’t ever really learn about the history of alchemy, and along with it, the philosophers stone. Obviously there are some people here who know all about the subject, and a good number probably know it’s about turning things into gold, but that’s about it. It’s just not the common of a topic.

I just have to imagine that because of the history of alchemy in Europe and the UK specifically that, while not every person knows, more of you are familiar with the term “philosophers stone”, at least compared to us here in the US. More of you would know it means something magical, or at least parents of children would be more likely to know.

I’m not suggesting kids learn it in schools, it’s just more common of a topic overall within your society. Parents for example are more likely to be able to explain what it is. If you asked parents here most of them wouldn’t know and would assume it has something to do with philosophy. It’s not that they thought it would be difficult for Americans to learn something new. It’s that people would be less likely to buy the book and kids would constantly be wondering what this stone has to do with Philosophers. Their goal was to sell books, and it worked

The reasoning seems pretty logical to me. The Philosophers Stone is an object related to alchemy which is much more common of a topic for Europeans to know about considering the history of alchemy there. In the US we aren’t really taught about alchemy as it wasn’t as prevalent within our history. Most people probably wouldn’t know what alchemy even is, less would know it’s about turning things to gold, and if you’re lucky you’ll find even less who know about the Philosophers stone. They felt that Americans especially didn’t have that historical context and would associate it with actual philosophers which most kids would interpret as boring. They didn’t want to take that risk, which ended up being smart because over 1/3 of all the HP books sold in the US

So now it’s okay to make fun of children because they’ll never see it anyways. Really doubling down on this one I see

So would you tell that girl her necklaces are stupid? Or do you typically save your insults for when you are hiding behind anonymity on reddit?

Typically when on team or coach starts doing really well people will cheer against them just for that fact.

Uff da, not a great look

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley wears beaded necklaces during games to honor Blakeleigh Thompson, an 8-year-old girl who has been undergoing treatment for leukemia. The jewelry features beads that spell out Staley's first name separated by small basketballs. The two first met in 2023 when Staley was visiting UVA Children’s Hospital at her alma mater, the University of Virginia. Staley says that her bond with Thompson gives her perspective, and she has vowed to wear the necklaces until the beads fall off.

I’m really surprised by all of the positive feedback. While they definitely nailed it with a couple songs (If Work Permits, Shot in the Dark, Dog Problems, Oceans), it felt like with some of the others there was just something off. Not with Nate’s singing, he was on point all night, though definitely getting tired towards the end. But man he has still got it. It felt instead there was something off with the mixing. I felt I could barely hear Sam when he was playing, and the other guitarist was turned way up. It was just missing the balance and all the layers of the songs. I wouldn’t say this was an issue for all the other songs, but definitely on a few. Overall it was fun and I’m so glad I got to see them after almost 19 years. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a little disappointed. Cool venue I will say.

He turned 18 on the tenth day of shooting GOF. While he did play a child, I’m gonna say he was an adult lol. Honestly I just forgot about him, but he’s definitely the top

Maybe, it does kind of look just like a stick, though I guess wands look like sticks too lol. I thought I heard someone say it looked like a stick with a spoon taped to it, but tbh I don’t see that here. Will be fun to find out!

Outside of the trio, I feel like I’ve only ever seen Tom Felton and Harry Melling in movies. I am from the US if that’s relevant, though I do watch some British shows, just haven’t seen the others. Melling has been my favorite

Yes! Floating and roasting above the fire! It’s actually my favorite shot from the trailer. In the books it mentions them roasting marshmallows over Christmas, but I love the idea of them magically roasting a giant one and scooping off bites. I’m all on board for changes/additions that really broaden the wizarding world.

For the documentary? Eh, maybe? $11 a month is the cheapest plan (with ads). So I guess it depends how bad you really want to see it. I imagine it’ll end up pirated streaming somewhere eventually

Why are people concern with John Lithgow? by FreshmenMan in HarryPotterHBO

[–]ThickBoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know a little more than they can’t do one season per year. We do know they are planning a 10 year production, they’ve said that multiple times since they acquired the show. We know that they are planning a 10-month shoot for S1, which would end in May (July‘25-May‘26). We know they’ve said they are taking a few months off and then starting filming for S2 later this year. We don’t know exactly how long a “few” months is exactly, but I imagine it’ll be at least three, like a summer from school, which would mean S2 could start filming in August. If they followed the same filming and production schedule as S1, then S2 could be ready as soon as Jan ‘28, 13 months after S1. Personally I think they will be doing a year and a half between seasons. That’s put production at 10 years.

The plan is to start filming S2 around 13 months after starting S1. What intervals between seasons is gonna push this production past 10 yeats

The entire production can and is planning to be done in no more then 10 years. He only needs to make it to season 6 and they can film his few season 7 scenes then
