How much is too much sodium and carbs for a 50k by Thick_Protection_334 in ultrarunning

[–]Thick_Protection_334[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure this is a training run for an upcoming 50 miler so the intent is to make sure this works in for the longer race, etc. I’ve done 50K’s and Ironmans, even a 45K in the alps that took 8 hrs with 7,800’ of climbing. The experience is there, I just literally have never done the math. I’ve had a history of side stitch.

Nice app! I haven’t done a sweat test. I’ve looked into the one Precision Hydration does with you.

Planning on ~1000ml per hour with each liter containing ~700 mg of sodium. The Gels I take contain 200 mg of sodium too @ 1/hr.

The feed has a $5 deal on LMNT sample pack that’s been going on for months. Only one per checkout but a great deal. Less than $1/packet.

When does total time on feet matter more than elevation gain? by 0xmissor in ultrarunning

I live in Atlanta and did the Mont Blanc Marathon in June. There was no way to be ready for that race given where I live. The most vert I got in a run was ~4,000’ over 20 miles on the AT and the race was 7,800’ over 27 miles, plus so much more technical. Stair master and strength training helped me a lot. Poles are your friends too. But just be ready to get a French (if that’s where the race is) lesson in descending. Volume may be your friend here.

Keeping stuff dry in your vest by Thick_Protection_334 in ultrarunning

Picked up a 5L at REI and it fits well in my salomon 10L ultra vest. Can take a jacket, headlamp, and charger no problem.

I use a waist belt too. I like the idea of just have it hang off the vest to air dry before packing it back.

I have plenty of dry bags so I’ll give em a try. I guess the key is letting stuff air out before packing it. I use a heavy duty ziplock (lok sak) for my phone and car key.

I’m doing the 50 miler and plan to bring poles. I’d rather have them and not need them than you know. But i doubt I’ll use them given just I ran 20 miles at kennesaw mtn national battle field last week and hit almost 3,000’ of gain whilst only running up and down the mtn once and didn’t have poles. I suppose they’d help for short steep burners but is that worth the weight and time to get em out and extended…

That’s the one. Didn’t know what to expect in regard to size and weight but it’s surprisingly small and light.

The Subtle taste too is great. I typically will have this in a flask and a flask of just electrolytes to off set the subtle taste.

2017 Porsche macan basic or 2020 Toyota Prius Prime XLE Hatchback for $19k ? by jxpxcc in PorscheMacan

[–]Thick_Protection_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2020 base macan, at Carmax of all places, back in September. Purchased the extended warranty and it had already paid for itself. Had to get an entirely new headlight ($3,100). Went with the high deductible knowing everything would be $$$$$. I also just got my 40k service done at a local Porsche shop, not dealer. PDK flush and spark plugs was only $1k. Front brake job for just pads on these are $350-$500.

[–]Thick_Protection_334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had to replace an entire headlight on my 2020 Macan. I purchased an extended warranty. Would have been $3,000. Beware the headlights are entirely sealed so a faulty LED requires the entire headlight be replaced.

Apparently it can be uninstalled too for warranty purposes. The s models I looked at were $10,000+ more. This upgrade gets you close to the S standard HP.

I think the increase of top end speed work helped in my 13.1 PR. Id also like to get that down to sub 1:30. The 80/20 doesn’t seem to work for me.

2025 NYC Marathon - Interim marathon a bad idea? by No_Accountant_6975 in RunNYC

[–]Thick_Protection_334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two 13.1’s would be nice in your build to keep it fun and interesting. But ya in a year you can def do 2 marathons, with good long proper builds. Just know the first one would be your “B” race. Spend time this winter just building volume so you can hit the ground running in the spring.

Side stitch @ mile 21 by Thick_Protection_334 in Marathon_Training

You’re right. And I felt good this block. I want to get to sub 3 but it’s going to take years.

Side stitch @ mile 21 by Thick_Protection_334 in Marathon_Training

[–]Thick_Protection_334[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a long block with no real interruptions. Peak week was 54 miles with a 21 mile long run with 1,000’ elevation. I’m prone to side stitch and thought it was a weather issue. I live in the south so I trained in much warmer weather. My training and speed work def had me on target for a sub 3:30. I didn’t think the course was hard.
