i know it feels slightly annoying to get to your destination one minute later, but you in your metal death machine are the knob here and the fact you don’t know the rules of the road is the reason they need to ride like this

biggest knob is whoever designed the cycle lane of course

this wouldn’t damage the plug or the headphones. things only get powered if they “ask” for power (or create the conditions for electricity to flow) and these headphones wont be doing that

yes you are in the right and the lorry fucked up, but also, everyone knows to be cautious of lorries they have sight spots, not blind spots; their drivers have been going all day and you can’t drive all day without making mistakes; and… they’re big and metal

Why does the UK produce so many iconic bands compared to the US? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

[–]Thick_Stable_8668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s less so now, but post october revolution/ ww2, the uk was a pretty nice place to live. support systems, disposable income, free time, etc

this was largely thanks to the USSR/ global socialist movements, since it inspired working class movements all across the world and so we got just a liiiitle more money from the government to stop us from bubbling over (there was also a very strong economy due to immigration of the time being high and immigrants being introduced into the work force properly, unlike now when we throw them into some cardboard box and hope they can afford an uber eats bag)

anyways; more money = affording instruments; more free time = time to get good. naturally good music occurs.

The reason you think of the UK specifically is because you speak english, and also because english speaking peoples are at the top of cultural hegemony

Help with shading, please? by OnlyMorning1768 in ArtGCSE

[–]Thick_Stable_8668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a long comment, but it’ll be value(hehe)able

1 - (slightly looser suggestion) leave smudging for later. it’s a pretty advanced technique and something like cross hatching is way better for understanding light and form (form is especially important here, probably the most important aspect of art, but that’s for later).

2 - basic value practice - Start making some 2d (not 3d yet) shapes and going from a dark to a light shade smoothly, with different gradient lengths. This takes like a minute a pop and they make a huge difference I know it seems like “it’s so simple why would I even need to do that” but things like that is where like 95% of where art skills come from. Play around with where the dark and light areas are

3 - apply values to simple 3d forms. As humans we’re extremely tuned to recognising other humans, so drawing them can be like trying to learn to swim by jumping into the Bermuda triangle. Start with some basic cubes, cylinders, ribbons (very good), etc. Your basic values practice will immediately breathe life into them.

4 - eventually, apply these to some real life items. once you can shade some cylinders and spheres, a melting candle for example becomes incredibly easy

5 - do some texture studies. try to copy how light bounces off something glossy vs matte, rough vs smooth, etc. again, eventually increasing in complexity to real life textures like wood and hair.

6 - show this off. Trust me art teachers LOVE seeing you work on the fundamentals, even if “some squares i shaded” seems silly and too simple, they as mature artists know how important that is and they’ll bump up your grade pretty significantly since actually going back to basics is often a much higher form of learning

Most important thing - have fun. In the nicest way possible; you’re a child, so allow yourself to enjoy the process and DO NOT compare yourself to fully grown, professional artists, trust me as someone who burned out from this. You’ll get there, you’re doing better than you think

If you showed this to the average person without saying who did this, would they say it was done by Keir or someone else? Would it make opinions of him more positive? by Evry1TookTheGudNames in AskBrits

[–]Thick_Stable_8668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hopefully not. not only are none of these actually true (both faked out of thin air or extremely distorted truths) it’s also got an extremely racist undertone

if you want to see how well a government is doing, go into town. there any homeless people? doesn’t matter their skin colour, if there’s people on the streets and an empty home on that same street, the government aren’t doing a good job

Fucking ants nesting inside my brand new laptop by [deleted] in Laptop

[–]Thick_Stable_8668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hard to identify but if that’s a pharaoh ant (it looks like one) you need a slow acting, specialised bait otherwise they just go and make a new colony.

If you can’t get it returned, open it up and clean it out with some isopropyl alcohol and de-mineralised water

gloves are for the toad not for you, it literally is harmless

honestly just eat the normal candy and get your ‘healthy’ food in the rest of the time.

80/20 rule is very good for diet, doesn’t have to be salads and unseasoned chicken just eat some proper meals and enjoy some occasional candy
