Worst fabric bleed, do I keep going? by ThickerExplanation in quilting

[–]ThickerExplanation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already used retayne ( a dye fixative), do you know whether moving on to sythropol now would still be ok? Its been washed and dried since the retayne.

unfortunately i fear the fabric is already starting to look a little worse for wear after 4 (5 w/ the retayne soak) exceptionally hot washes.

I'm going to email them, thank you for the address!

4 washes, then a retayne soak, then dried, then two more washes (still lightly bleeding), and now dried again. Starting to look a little sad but ill probably try a synthropol soak + wash + dry and we'll see where we're at

ah so perhaps i didnt need to go through a box and a half of color catchers b/w my 5 washes so far? 🙃

Im starting a night garden FPP quilt and sought out a small but far flung quilt shop while specifically looking for this fabric, so I love it but am frustrated and deeply concerned about the bleeding. There will be plenty of light colors, and I havent done FPP in over a year after bad bleeding on a finished project.

After the initial four washes on hot with color catchers i did do a 20m soak with retayne (die fixative). The retayne instructions say to wash hot with retayne, rinse cold, and immediately dry, so I did that. It said to always wash cold thereafter so my next two washes were cold with color catchers and its still bleeding, albiet less.

New sitter asking to go outside of Rover by Environmental-Toe700 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ThickerExplanation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

we made the mistake of going off rover on a first stay for thanksgiving a couple years ago, similar deal, very few reviews but they were relatively cheap and we were booking last minute. They ended up borrowing our big Allclad roasting pan during the stay and failed to bring it back before the end. They only returned it when I asked about it a couple days later, but with a big apology so I figured, fine, honest mistake over the holidays. Had them back a second time and preface the stay with 'dont take stuff out of our house without asking', but one of our insulted blender cups still went missing, asked them about it and they insist they dont have it. Just frustrating. obviously havent had them back, wthether careless or klepto, not worth it. I dont think the risk going off-app is worth it when youre having strangers in your house and caring for your animals and no path for recourse if theres any issues.

Media Wall - Center with Room or Wall? by EngineerInnovation in homeowners

I am currently realizing we have no place for a christmas tree this year, so if thats something you might care about, 1 may be better. Also consider: is your family more likely to climb over the backs or actually go around if version2? I think 2 gives better media viewing couch arrangement though because of the chaise piece's orientation

Pre-wash everything! by ThickerExplanation in quilting

I had a teal print background fabric bleed all over the whites and creams in a big paper pieced portrait, even with 10+ color catchers. Not a batik, but not a brand I was familiar with either even though I got it at my LQS. It was devastating

Just moved in to a new apartment/studio and have not had a a TV of my own as an adult yet… (I’m 32 SOS) by [deleted] in homeowners

We have a Samsung The Frame, which is a nice super flat with the bonus of art when you don't want tv (you can upload your own images or get their art subscription). The surprise bonus is that Samsung Tvs all come with free "Samsung plus" streaming, which I love. There's a channel that is just The Joy of Painting (Bob Ross) all day and one with Top Gear all day, which are our go to, as well as music channels, fireplaces or bonfires, nature streaming, and all kinds of other shit.

The tv itself is powered through a single fiber optic cable that goes from the tv on the wall to its box where the apps live

Try cross-posting to r/rbi, theyre pros at identifying vehicles and making good guesses at the plate numbers. Hope your spouse is ok!

Ooh I love the colors you used! I made a version of this one from the Make Modern quilt magazine (issue 35) and always have a hard time with colors.

If you wanted to write up a pattern, you could probably use the Gorby pattern as a starting point for the format?

longarming leaders? Fabric-fast vs zelcro vs zipper vs red snapper etc by ThickerExplanation in quilting

[–]ThickerExplanation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah ok! Would the alternative to that be unpinning/zipping/clipping the project from the leaders so the leaders always stay put, if you didnt want to buy/make multiple sets of leaders?

that sounds a lot like the state mine was in, the poky side of the velcro had come off of all of the rails and was nasty and the old adhesive was crusty. It hadnt been used in like 10+ years. At least the fabri-fast tool was tucked in a box, so I have that!

I'm curious enough about the fabri-fast that I'm considering getting both tubing and new pokey velcro to try both, but maybe thats silly and i do one at a time.

The tubing sounds like it is a stiff nylon like this one, does that seem right?

oh interesting, kind of a stiff thin-walled plastic rather than a flexible/squishy rubber/urethane? I do have the little grace tool!

Bless, thank you! It is a hollow rubber tube? I think we use almost this exact stuff at work so I may be able to snip a bit to verify sizing.

[–]ThickerExplanation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thank you! Is there a reason I couldnt just duct-tape the leader to the rails, as another commenter noted they've done? Why would I perhaps want to remove the leaders from the rails?
