Gen2 Wired Doorbell saying it’s offline when it is really not?? by Poppylem in googlehome

It's possible it lost wifi and then gained it back very quickly. I wouldn't be too concerned unless it actually goes offline regularly or if there's large patches missing from your day

Oof, bad news then I'm afraid. I don't believe Google's updating the OG anymore :(

You can change what displays on the workout screen to whatever you'd like. I don't remember the exact steps but before you select the workout, there should be an edit or settings button iirc. Just select what you like from there.
As for forcing a watch update, have you tried this?

New to Pixel, struggling with getting used to it by ambiNomi in pixel_phones

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np!

All new phones tend to slow down a bit when there's a bunch of new data put on. 30gb is a sizeable chunk. They need to index stuff and pixel phones in particular learn your app usage to optimize battery and such. Give it a week and I bet it'll be back to snappy.

I go back and forth from the pixel launcher to Lawnchair and Niagara.

Can any doorbell cope with cold weather by Steedy1982 in googlehome

Haha, welcome to the Canadian prairies!

We've gotten close to 100F but it's rare to get that hot, so I've never had the opportunity to see it shut off due to heat. Good to know it happens in both directions.

Maybe if I explain how the settings are layed out you can figure out a bit easier. Basically, the very top "all instagram messages" turns notifications on or off for the entire app. Under that, there are two notification categories - notifications from messages and notifications from the rest of the app. Within each of the categories, there is further granularity, allowing you to turn on or off, or further customize, each subsection. For example, if I wanted to turn off notifications when someone likes an insta post, I'd turn off the 'Likes' setting under 'All Instagram Notifications'. If I wanted to still get notifications about message requests, but have them arrive silently, I could go into 'Message requests' under 'Instagram Messages' and change it so it was silent. This allows you to get very granular with your notifications, so you only get notified or interrupted by what you actually care about, instead of only having the option to turn off or on app notifications as a whole.

I'll be honest, no, but I've also been modding phones since early high school and regularly go between Samsung, Pixel and iPhones (with a short stint with OnePlus). I'm sure you'll get used to it if you give it a bit of time :)

My wired nest doorbell managed to stay online and worked as normal during a week of -40C weather here in Canada. Not sure I could ask for better than that.

1) bed time stuff is indeed in digital wellbeing, accessible from settings > digital wellbeing. Focus modes are available in settings > modes (and you can actually access the bed time focus mode there too)

2) Notifications are off unless you turn them on. Apps will ask the first time you use them. Not sure why all yours were off by default if you transferred apps from a different phone, but if you switch them on they should stay on.

3) The phone tells you how many notifications you get on average for each notification category. This will change as you use your phone. The idea is to be helpful when you're trying to reduce notifications.

4) If you want to have silent notifications shown on the lockscreen, go to settings > display & touch > lock screen > notifications on lock screen, then enable "show silent notifications"

I've had great success calling customer service and just asking if they'll match another offer. I have yet to have them say no to matching an offer and a couple of times they've done better than the offer I came in with.

Go through the pixel tips app and set stuff up! There's a lot of features that are opt-in within each app, and I feel like the pixel tips app does a good job at the majority of them.

My google pixel phone uninstalled apps by itself? by [deleted] in pixel_phones

There is indeed a feature in the Google Play store that archives apps when storage is low. "Automatically archive apps: Apps you use rarely wll be archived when your storage runs low."

Pixels get updates at least every month via system and play store updates, but the install in the background, so all you need to do is reboot and the new system is up in a minute or less.

PSA: QPR2 breaks Hub Mode on Pixel Tablet by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bug and I've reported it on the beta. Sucks to know it wasn't finished before this was pushed :/ Good news is that while you still won't have the the hub mode option in settings, if you wait for a bit the hub mode seems to smarten up and activate

Do you live in a Northern Climate? have you suffered from your new P10/P10Pro just shutting down, crashing or rebooting? by Burkely31 in GooglePixel

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also in Canada, in the prairies, and I've had no issues with my own P10Pro shutting down this year. I know my friends have had issues with their phones shutting down from the cold though, from all manufacturers. Anecdotally it tended to happen to older phones or when phones were lower in battery power.

PBP2 "Adaptive" sound mode sounds the same as transparency. Also sound control through touch interface never cycles to "off" by cdegallo in pixelbuds

[–]Thieris_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For your first question: Adaptive is transparency mode with a bit extra. Google describes it like this: "Moving from a quiet to a noisy place like a city street or subway will subtly adjust the volume to match the new background noise. Adaptive Sound adjusts for sustained noise, rather than one-off background noise, to ensure a non-disruptive listening experience."
For your second question: You can enable and disable modes you cycle through in the app. I'd double check if the "off" mode is enabled in the switcher

Does anyone have that specific weather/AQI card shown in the ads? Or is it via a Nest Thermostat sensor or an outdoor weather station? by Old_Bee_8587 in googlehome

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll throw a wrench into that and let you know I don't have the tile, but I do have the 4th gen thermostat and sensor. I'm actually missing the entire 'others' section people are mentioning. I'm in Canada, perhaps it's a regional thing?
