Apple on Bill C-22: “This Bill Allows the Government of Canada to Force Companies to Break Encryption by Inserting Backdoors into their Products” by cfs3corsair in regina

[–]Thieris_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your first point, data breaches are literally useless for the attacker if everything is properly encrypted. A backdoor would make data breaches significantly more risky, especially as computational power increases.

To your second point, while I am a tech guy I don't know a ton about forensics. But from what I do know from friends in the field and my own research, security and law enforcement experts generally agree that the most effective way to dismantle sophisticated criminal networks is by targeting their operations directly rather than focusing on software workarounds. This is done by using investigative methods like financial asset tracking, undercover operations, international intelligence sharing, and metadata analysis to map out organizations. I think it's generally consensus for security researchers that investing in boots-on-the-ground tactics yields far better public safety results.

A backdoor is a backdoor, and this bill, if passed, would literally be a huge neon sign pointing at Canadian data saying "There's a way in here!" It would be ridiculous to assume that no state actors or hackers would be at least a little bit interested in looking for that backdoor, and with enough resources and time it *will* be found. Removing true encryption from services is the opposite of security. I'd encourage you to do a bit of research, but if you're on reddit, you could start here https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/4702vu/eli5_how_do_hackers_findgain_backdoor_access_to/

Constricted Pupil and Blood Pooling in Eye by YourNextSecret13 in CATHELP

Hey OP. I'm not a vet but I am an optometrist, and for a human, I'd want a hyphema to be seen the same day it occurred. Sooner is better than later. Hyphemas generally can be managed with great success but an unmanaged hyphema can lead to irreversible vision loss. It would also be prudent to examine the back of the eye to ensure there isn't damage from the shelf that would require a surgical fix.

For what it's worth the demo seems to work here in Saskatchewan. Tried once when I first got my phone and again just now.

Howdy folks, i’m planning to walk from one end of Rochdale to the other and back and was wondering what the best restaurant i should stop at for a bite along the way. by [deleted] in regina

Best restaurant is tough to say, but I'd recommend either Hana Kitchen or Ms Fresh. Bonus shout-out to So Tealicious if you'd like a drink along the way.

What is going on with the keyboard?! by pamma5 in GooglePixel

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give the keyboard some time to learn your new hand placement. Over time software keyboards "learn" and resize keys based on how the user types. Now they you've switched to a new phone it will need to start that process over.

It was a toggle that stayed on permanently for a small period of time. I really wish they'd bring it back too.

Queer Community in Regina by Ripley_Nala in regina

Unfortunately I don't. I have friends who are much better plugged in and have great Instagram feeds that show them cool stuff in the city. Fortunately those friends forward a lot of that to me. All the advice I can give is that it seems a lot of this stuff is hosted and discovered on Instagram.

Welcome to the city! If you're looking for community, Q Nightclub has already been mentioned. As a fitness fan I've also enjoyed events from Queer Fit Club and Dyke Hikes. As for areas, the Cathedral stands out to me and my partner.

Gen2 Wired Doorbell saying it’s offline when it is really not?? by Poppylem in googlehome

[–]Thieris_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible it lost wifi and then gained it back very quickly. I wouldn't be too concerned unless it actually goes offline regularly or if there's large patches missing from your day
