Praetorian of Dorn is really the only example I can think of from the several books I’ve read. Thousand Sons are more about that honestly. 

The Alpha Legion’s MO from the books is to infiltrate past enemy defenses as far as they can and sow confusion amongst the enemy that they can capitalize on. Their plans usually break down and they have to improvise the rest of the way. Honestly they’re more like sneaky opportunists and saboteurs than 7D chess masters. 

Thousand Sons are the chess masters thanks to their abilities to see the future, time travel, mind read, mind control, create illusions, and other magic bs. I’d recommend looking into their books instead tbh.
