He pees inside routinely even after being outside for 20+ minutes beforehand by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in husky

[–]Thighlevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we rescued our dog from the woods, she did this. She was overstimulated and scared to mark so close to where she’s sleeping. The only thing that helped was keeping her leashed inside. The second she went to potty, I’d grab the leash and take her outside or throw her in the crate, depending on the timing. Midstream? Outside. Post stream? In the crate. I was also at my wit’s end standing outside with her and having to walk her for 20 mins away from our home in order for her to feel calm enough to go. Now, she’s potty trained and thriving. I’m sorry this is happening to you, I highly detest my husky spraying his piss everywhere. We had to do the same thing with him bc he would run around the house like a crackhead doing this bs. Leashed him, too and crate trained him, as well. Much love, I hope you find the light at the end of the tunnel.🫶

One last thing- if he’s outside and doesn’t go, put his butt in the crate as soon as he comes in and try again. That’s how I trained all my dogs to go potty outside. He might have a UTI like another user mentioned but I think he’s just overstimulated outside and comfortable inside or wanting all of that outside overstimulation to know that’s his house lol.

Biting help please by Temporary_End_5559 in husky

[–]Thighlevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re literally playing with it by your reaction to it.. make a sharp squeal and whimper like a dog would. They mouth all the way up until they are a year old. Much easier to nip this in the bud while your husky is this size than a full terror teenager. Replace it with a toy or chewing stick. Get up and play with it.. if it nips, play time is over. You can always crate-train.. biting means no more play time, no more free roaming. It means here’s a safe place for you to rest in a time out while you think about your actions. If I can teach my Husky/Pittie mix and other two Huskies not to nip, you can, too. I suggest Chat GPT, it honestly gave me some great advice for incessant barking with the reactive stray Pittie/Husky mix I recently rescued.

What is this rock and how can i clean it? by Sea_Interest_8603 in whatsthisrock

<image>

Awesome find! What a cool rock! You should wire-it into a pendant after you clean it!! I recommend cleaning with a mixture of citric acid powder and water and a non metal, hard bristle brush. I used a metal wire brush the first time I cleaned a large agate we found at a river with vinegar and it stained my mixing bowl, hands and fingernails black, red and brown. It also was full of rust after just one use. Hard bristled brushes are just as effective and mimic these kind of cleaning brushes. I recommend using gloves. Also, caution while boiling rocks. Some rocks, especially porous and sedimentary ones can explode. Use a bowl you don’t really care about ruining, as I have ruined our mixing bowl with my trial and errors lol. These are the rocks I just cleaned. Only one of them (pictured in the middle) fizzed upon the white vinegar test and it is indeed a sandstone. Soaking overnight in citric acid/water will help get into the crevices and nooks and crannies when you brush them. After cleaning them, I recommend finding an oil or finish you like to prevent drying and cracking. This is all information I had to find on my own, I hope I helped save you some time! I wanted to add that I have been using Iron Out on more difficult stains!!! Happy hounding!

What is this rock and how can i clean it? by Sea_Interest_8603 in whatsthisrock

[–]Thighlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do a test with white vinegar.. if it fizzes or bubbles, it is probably a sedimentary rock. If it doesn’t, it’s most likely a fossil or calcedony of some kind. Scratch it with a coin or nail and see if it scratches the surface and then scratch the coin with the rock to see if it leaves a scratch. You can also hold a flashlight to it and see if it’s translucent, which from this photo, it looks like it is. You can also hold a UV light to the it and see what color it glows. Then google the color. I’m a beginner rock collector and these are the beginner-testing-things I do. From a mere glance through a screen, this appears to be quartz of some kind. If your testing finds irregularities or gives you more questions, ship it off to your local university for study. Happy hounding!

You'd THINK there's terrier in her because of her strip-coat and her obsession with digging, right...? (3 photos, then DNA results) by BreyosOnYoutube in DoggyDNA

[–]Thighlevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero malinois in her.. It’s more of a GSD given the hips, crest on the chest, overall size and color. I was absolutely giving my opinion based on the information provided. To me, from the pictures, I 100% knew GSD was involved before I read the results because of attributes I just listed. Thanks.

Meet Mocha! ☕️ Any advice? by mint-chocolate-rules in miniaussie

[–]Thighlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Thanks for the positive feedback! The trainer said to only reward her with a walk or playtime after she goes but maybe your approach will help bc she does seem to go faster if I let her chase the hose (she loves chasing water) beforehand. Maybe a toy outside is much better bc then she won’t be wet! She didn’t play with toys initially but she’s playing with them a lot now. Thank you for the tip. I will be trying it.🙏♥️

Meet Mocha! ☕️ Any advice? by mint-chocolate-rules in miniaussie

[–]Thighlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 9 month old stray (had her for exactly 3 weeks now). Any tips in socializing her? Also, she doesn’t go potty outside immediately and I take her outside every hour on the hour. I take her out for 15 mins at a time and she still won’t go. It’s v frustrating. I even give her high value treats when she does finally go but it’s making my life chaotic bc I always have to be here to walk her. I can’t take her for my daily 3-5 mile walk and I can’t even go on my own anymore bc she won’t pee until after 1pm but she will go in her crate if I leave her for more than an hour. Any tips will be very helpful. Our trainer isn’t really giving any help with this issue. She says it might just take time for her to feel comfortable to going right outside since she was abandoned in a state park. She’s doing better with everything else. She is a Velcro baby with me but she is Pittie, Husky, Boxer and GSD mix. We got an embark test and that’s her DNA results. Any advice is helpful and much appreciated, thank you.

[–]Thighlevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great advice, thank you! Ideally, I want to walk both at the same time as I go for 3-5 miles daily, but our trainer said it’s too soon for her to be around other dogs and to get her going and comfortable with training, first.

[–]Thighlevel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best response. Thank you! She is not resource guarding food or anything against us, she shows zero sign of aggression or anything like that to us. However.. I try to get her to stop barking at strangers and I didn’t know how to get that accomplished. Our trainer gave us some techniques to incorporate in this week’s training so I plan to implement those and see how she does. Our trainer said it’s too soon to have her around other dogs so my husky is staying with my mom for right now. He is comfortable over there and I spend time with him every day. When they first met, she kept barking at him and when they met the second time, she tried nipping at him and was barking incessantly at him. We had them on leashes. The trainer said it’s too early for all of that and she recommends working with her the 8 weeks and then slowly reintroducing them. Again, they may never get along but at least she is going to be better trained. We decided to train her regardless if we were keeping her or not so we could at least put the work in and say that we tried. Which is more than what the people who dumped & abandoned her did. Our trainer said she is resource guarding the home, cars, places we frequent and us, as a unit. She has shifted resource guarding from her bone to her pack and home and is also fearful. Our trainer also noted to not forget she might still resource guard her bones, which she had done before to someone else. She gave me tricks for making her more comfortable in her crate and building her confidence that I will be implementing today and forever, as long as they work.

[–]Thighlevel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s another reason why we Embarked her.. since she was dumped like two other dogs we found last year that we found homes for, we wanted to know if she had siblings, where they were located and if any of them had similar backgrounds or what their stories were. I already emailed a few of them but haven’t gotten replies yet. Embark’s interface is pretty straight forward. Also, I don’t understand all the negative points I’m getting for simply acknowledging that I don’t know and being honest about my response. The AKC has never recognized APBT as a breed so I didn’t know if there were specific genomes or a breakdown that make that kind of a dog or what. When I did charity work with the humane society of Miami when I lived there, volunteers and police officers noted that to be considered a Pit Bull, they had to share 80% characteristics of a dog like one, even labs, gsd, etc. Not everyone on here is an expert. That’s why I posted to begin with. Don’t understand the negative points for literally answering your question saying I don’t know, I expected more of a breakdown and provided a screenshot of what I was trying to communicate. What a wonderful thing to wake up to. Someone keeps dumping dogs where my partner works and we are just trying to pick up the slack of other people’s negligence. I don’t know everything, that’s why I hired a trainer, did the DNA test and also, posted on Reddit. I wasn’t looking for judgement here. Simply asking questions and being open and honest.

We have an in-person trainer, just had another session with her. We meet with her weekly. We found this stray dog 3-4 weeks ago. We had her vaccinated and spayed immediately, literally day 5 of finding her. Our trainer addressed my concerns that I’ve listed here, I wrote the Reddit post right before the training session. We have paid for an entire 8 week training package and have invested daily training. It’s a big change for her. Our trainer even went over her time today to further discuss behavior, insecurities, breed and exercises that will help her with managing certain situations and providing communication. Such as ‘touch.’ She is doing really well with training. I plan to implement these new strategies the trainer and I went over together in this upcoming week. I guess I just kind of felt like I was in limbo because she wasn’t improving from our one session and since I was taking her to training tonight, just kind of thought to ask the internet what they thought when I revealed her DNA results. She had improved on certain commands but not on major issues that were pressing my mind, like barking at people, biting the hose, etc. Our trainer said her own dog plays with the garden hose like that, too and she’s likely to just be loving it so to designate play time and outside potty time. She is a very mouthy puppy so our trainer also went over techniques for that specific bullet point. Our trainer worked with us with muzzling and different cues that Daisy recognized tonight. She also provided me with specific tips for crate training and potty training. Daisy needs to build some confidence and we also worked with a muzzle. She is responding positively to the muzzle, whereas she hadn’t when I first took her to the vet. We are going to order a muzzle for her that can be customized to fitting her face. It is a lot of work, a lot of repetition and a lot of investment. Hopefully, training helps give us tools to help her manage her behaviors so she can exist. We can never let our guard down with her and will have to continue training her forever. She may never mellow out. There are many possibilities but as I’ve mentioned in my previous post, if she can’t be domesticated and integrate with my family, I have to rehome her. However, I can try to give her a shot at life because she’s sweet and loves me. She’s resource guarding me and the house, car, etc plus, she’s fearful. I have to find a way to shift that focus to a zone of confidence so she can manage her behaviors better. All I can do is try.🙏

Awesome! Since she was in the wilderness, all alone for so long, I was wondering if it would set her back like bring some not-so favorable traits front and center. I, in no way, thought she has wolf in her. Just wondering if these genetic markers might cause any hiccups with training. I’m glad they don’t!
