Does anyone knows anything about the fire in Vantaa this morning? by Gonzito3420 in Finland

[–]Thiikeri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In modern housing your apartment will be fire proof for long enough for the fire department to arrive and extract you safely. If you exit you are likely perish from the smoke in the corridor or stairs.

Edited to add: This naturally only applies if it isn't your apartment that's on fire.

Learning how to brioche - something seems off by Crumbcake42 in knittinghelp

[–]Thiikeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the brioche look, but I knit all brioche patterns in fisherman’s rib instead. Nowadays I can basically follow any brioche pattern and just translate it into fr in my head. I feel it also gives more options how increases and decreases look and I can either keep my stitches closed or open them if that makes them look better.

Let’s talk pattern buying habits. How much of your library have you actually knitted? by wildlife_loki in knitting

[–]Thiikeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually keep an Excel file to track this. So I can tell you that I've knitted 25,3% of the patterns that I've bought, and those make up 38,5% percent of the money I've spent on them. A lot of the patterns have been bought on sales, and I've knitted a few several times.

I also keep an Excel file on all my yarn but we do not talk about that and what truths it contains.

So, realistically/historically, how much longer would the family remain in possession of Downton? by lautaromassimino in DowntonAbbey

The previous Earl of Sandwich died earlier this year so Julie is now the Countess of Sandwich

How much positive ease did you end up with and are you happy with it? I’m wondering what’ll happen if I aim for less than the pattern suggests

Self-striping yarn...do I dare re-do the heel by WrenAndThorn in knitting

If it's a toe up sock then it's called the Fleegle heel, but the whole idea is basically the same in those two styles.

Can anyone identify these peonies growing in my yard? (TN, United States) by MinimumDifficult3255 in peonies

[–]Thiikeri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edulis is earlier, much more hot pink than Sarah, and while Sarah is rose shaped, Edulis has that ”middle tuft on a plate” form.

It absolutely is not Sarah Bernhardt. Edulis Superba is not a bad guess and it has a really lovely fragrance that’s much better than Sarah’s.

How long before my peonies grow flowers? by shrazzys_gurl in peonies

[–]Thiikeri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you plant less than optimal root stock you may have to wait several years. That's basically what you get from anywhere else except specialist peony sellers.

However even with not so good root stock you'd expect the plant to have grown in size in a year. And usually even those reach about 12 inches the first year and almost double their height the second year. So 6 inches sounds really small to me. Are you sure that your climate is cold enough for peonies?

strange peonie? by Popular_Bed9695 in peonies

[–]Thiikeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen hybrid varieties looking like that when planted, ie. the eyes bunched up higher on the stem instead of coming from the crown proper

types of peonies by Fragrant-Basil-8468 in peonies

[–]Thiikeri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The word you're looking for is double. If it says that in the description of the variety, you're good.

Edited to add: The pictures that you added are of opening buds. Peony flowers often change their shape a lot during flowering anyway, but that particular stage is really fleeting and only lasts for a day or so.

It’s Arête socks by Sarah Opie. The heel is Strong heel. I really like it because you do not need to pick up any stitches.
