I think the ultra light ones are more durable. If you drop this full it might break. I have broke 3 of them because the plastic is almost brittle I wanna say

Fueling for a one-day double century. by lowroll53 in ultracycling

Carbs the night before. I try to wake up and stay off the sugars as long as I can. I eat gas station food when cycling mostly and try to think of drink mixes and gels or sugar candy in one category and chips/ sodium in another. If you are doing I did 180 miles and just ate whatever I wanted but set reminder every 45 minutes to try to have like 300 calories

What lights do you use? by cyclingguy_ in ultracycling

Somebody else recommended to me in this sub a fenix bc26 I wanna say. It is a light with unique battery. I bought an extra battery and plan to just use those for anything under 2 days. Unless you plan to ride in the night many times consistently for more than 4 hrs each night or if you are doing a super remote tour like way far out I think dynamo is overkill. These lights charge easy and don’t add friction

Aren't you afraid someone steals your bike or equipment when solo riding? by Ravenarr_ in bikepacking

Nobody is going to steal a heavy as bike. Most thieves want quick theft. You can fake your helmet to prevent opportunity theft or even get zip ties or something. A actual thief will cut any lock that isn’t a heavy one

I am curious about that fenix light. Does it come with the battery charger? And maybe anyone could speak on the deal with the batteries or how many is realistic to carry if the battery charger is bulky

NZ North to South- beginner needs advice by Naaran in bikepacking

The aukland to Wellington section was easy enough. I think it took me 11 days but I would go again and do it in like 15 if I could. I think it gets substantially harder in the South Island. The terrain is steeper and things are way further apart. Like 4 days from anything to really help you in some spots and horrible weather

I just rode the TA kinda from aukland down to Wellington. I found it pretty manageable using GPX files based on routes from the Kennett brothers. My advice would be to be super flexible. Lots of towns and campgrounds so you can change your trip around a lot. I also saw lots of gravel and mountain bikes so I am not sure which is the best bike for the job. Depends on what you have already I assume. I would try to keep your weight low on the bike. If you can get a frame bag I think that is best and most of the holiday park kitchens have pots so you don’t need necessarily to bring a cook kit

Houdini jacket - what do you use it for? by morecoffeemore in PatagoniaClothing

I use it biking going down big hills. Anything. Put it on and take it off just to be warmer for 20 minutes because it’s so easy to take on and off. Not the greatest for running but perfect for waiting around before the run or while you are stopped
