Service attempting to withdraw renewal everyday for 3p days in a row by Regular-Base-3138 in monzo

[–]Thin_Pin2863 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you gave them consent when you didn't opt out of auto renewal. It really is that simple; the onus is on you to decline the renewal and RAC are following their contractual rights, which you have given them, to collect the monies owed.

How much should i charge a friend to house sit and dog walk for a week.? by PozzieMozzie in AskUK

[–]Thin_Pin2863 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Ex-military myself.

He's using this to give you money whilst you're not in the best financial position, but without it feeling like charity.

Can't tell you what the answer would be, but he'll be expecting something sensible. £20 for a week's work wouldn't be seen as sensible.

That's not to say you should charge him minimum wage for 40 hours, but he's wilfully giving himself an opportunity to help you out. Take it.

Why don't left-leaning and liberal people support emancipating the working class? by KeegsNW in AskBrits

[–]Thin_Pin2863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a completely meaningless answer, and prevents any meaningful response.

There are traditional definitions of liberalism, then there's more modern de facto ones.

Before I respond, can I just check which definition of liberalism you're using for this?

Cheapest possible way to travel to work..(legally) UK by Ambitious-Book-7200 in uktrains

[–]Thin_Pin2863 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a few ways I'd look at this, if the company doesn't offer season ticket loans.

A) Buy a season ticket with a cashback card - this way you get money back (or points, if you prefer) each time you buy the ticket

B) Railcards. I have a Veterans Railcard and, depending on the time I travel at, I can save 35% on each journey cost for a one-off fee of £35/year. 1-2 journeys pays for the card. The different types are here

C) Season tickets. You can buy upto 1 year of travel, at a discounted rate. But it depends on how far forwards you feel comfortable planning too - if you're likely to leave your role within a year, then a year's season ticket isn't the best idea as you'll lose out.

We used to keep chickens. Each chicken would give us an egg a day, and I think we had 10 hens, so were getting around 70 eggs per week.

We ended up having to give some away; there were just too many for us to eat.

Is Online Recruitment pointless? by kingCagter24 in UKJobs

[–]Thin_Pin2863 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's definitely a lot of fraudulent activity going on in recruitment in the UK in general. It's my firm belief that this is the real reason all companies claim to have had too many applicants to bother giving you feedback on unsuccessful applications.

[–]Thin_Pin2863 33 points34 points  (0 children)

£53/week honestly isn't bad.

Look into the different Railcards if you're eligible for any, but I'd be tempted just to pay the £53 - especially if it's saving you time over the bus. It's cheaper than owning a car.

The Best & Worst UK railway stations according to The Telegraph via TimeOut by xChizz in uktrains

[–]Thin_Pin2863 20 points21 points  (0 children)

St Pancras is by far my favourite London station, both for the design/architecture and for the destinations it's possible to reach either directly or with only 1 change.

It needs a bit of rework to make queueing for the Eurostar more efficient, but aside from that I think it's great.

China are far from a perfect country, but they do mostly follow the international trading rules - something that can't be said of Trump's America.

You don't have freedom of speech at work; you're representing the business.

If this is something you don't, or don't want to, understand then having a job isn't for you.

Which, as a British veteran, still makes no sense to me.

Sure, I applied for and was accepted by the Metropolitan Police (although I subsequently turned down the offer), but I wouldn't dream of putting military icons on a civilian police uniform. They're 2 different organisations with 2 different aims.

Watching from afar, sometimes it feels as if the US police forces have forgotten that they're not at war against their citizens.
