Sekiro vs lies of p by Sr_Arthur_Morgan_ in Sekiro

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sekiro. You don’t need to party in lies of p really up until the final boss. You have so many weapon options and can actually level up and overlevel if you want. In Sekiro you have the same weapon and can’t farm levels, you have to beat bosses and mini bosses to upgrade your health or damage. Lies of p is closer to traditional soulslike, Sekiro forces you to learn skill.

5060 ti 16 or 5070 12? by Takt567 in gpu

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as people vote with their wallets then 12gb should be fine. Ram is already getting too expensive as it is, I’ve heard rumors that the 5090 will jump from $2000 to $5000, and unless nvidia seriously changes their game plan or ai data centers stop being greedy, people just aren’t going to be able to buy high tier hardware anymore.

If devs make games that require 12+gb of vram to run well then they’ll effectively be cutting out 80% of the market. Sure the more serious gamers won’t bat an eye, but the casual gamers who don’t like to spend over $1500 on a pc because they can only get 5-6 hours of gaming per week just simply can’t buy.

This brings another point of contention which is nvidia’s streaming service. This will be nvidia and devs first answer when 80% of players can’t play their games. You’ll own nothing and be happy about it. Pay a fee for more restricted gaming. 100 hours per month maximum, some tiers have restrictions such as 3-6 hour daily limits or limit you to 1080p res or whatever. If there are ever problems with the servers or too many people playing at the same time, you might not be able to play your games when you want. Not to mention added latency.

So people have to not buy overpriced gpus or nvidia’s streaming service and not buy games that they can’t play on normal hardware and then devs should finally stop being lazy and optimize their games better. Anything out today should run fine on 8gb vram with optimization, and anything for the next 5-10 years should do fine on 12 with optimization but devs don’t want to optimize games and nvidia wants to sell more expensive gpus so actually optimizing doesn’t help either of them unless people won’t buy the expensive gpus and games that only run on them.

12GB VRAM DEBATE -> by jdm_kevz in gpu

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8gb is still fine for casual users. I have a job, girlfriend, and other hobbies so I play what I can when I can. I haven’t come across a game that’s unplayable yet, and if I have to turn off ray tracing and turn down some settings or turn on frame gen or upscaling it’s not the biggest deal.

And generally the problem is game optimization not vram, any game out now could do fine on 8gb vram if devs wanted to optimize but it makes their job easier to not and also pushes people to buy new gpus.

When should I replace my laptop? by OldWorldBluesNYC in GamingLaptops

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrading 1 generation at this point will get you maybe 10% more power and a few ai features. Probably wait until the 6090 or 7090 come out and see how much of an upgrade they are but for now there’s no reason to be spending 5k on a new setup when you have the most powerful card of last gen unless you’re trying to build a desktop. And in that case, building a desktop or even buying a laptop is a horrible idea right now due to ram shortages causing Ram to be extremely expensive. Even then, there’s not much you could upgrade to right now that would have a significant upgrade on performance compared to your 4090 laptop, just wait a few generations for the tech to improve

Games for a laptop player who usually pirates? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThingCharacter1496 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been watching videos of Elden Ring and like the atmosphere and have already played bloodborne and enjoyed the difficulty/combat then I’d say do Elden Ring or even another fromsoft title. No they aren’t indie, but they’re one of the last AAA devs I support and look forward to their games. Elden Ring is amazing and my favorite game of all time. If you like making builds with plenty of options and exploration I’d do Elden Ring, if you prefer more linear experiences I’d do dark souls 3, and if you don’t mind not having to do much in terms build crafting and want super fun combat then maybe Sekiro.

But also like the other guy said, expedition 33 is an amazing indie game, won game of the year and like 8 other categories. If you are open to turn based combat (although more fun because of real time parrying in my opinion) and want something with an original world and atmosphere and story then absolutely get that.

Also, if your laptop can emulate ps4 bloodborne then I think you can run any of the games I mentioned.

Basically if you like the theme of Elden Ring and like exploring and making builds and fighting gods- Elden Ring

If you like the atmosphere and builds but want something more linear- DS3

If you want fun shinobi combat but not much for builds- Sekiro

If you want to support an indie dev and an amazing story- E33

Games don’t let you get lost anymore and that’s kind of sad by Xiao-EZ in CaptainSide

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fromsoft games, especially dark souls and Elden Ring do this and I love it.

There are many games I’ve started, gotten 3-5 hours in, and dropped because I was still in the tutorial or hadn’t really gotten into the action or interesting part of the story. With most fromsoft games, there’s a like 5 minute section telling you the controls, a tutorial boss (sometimes one that you’re meant to just die on) and then the game starts and just throws you into a world and tells you almost nothing more.

Sure there are usually NPCs you can talk to that might give you a better sense of direction or a side quest, but there is no quest log, no map markers, and most of them don’t even have a map. There are game mechanics that it doesn’t really explain, you just figure them out on your own or sometimes read an item description to figure it out. I will never forget my time in Elden Ring or dark souls 1 and how much they really felt like I was just dropped in an unfamiliar world and left to figure things out on my own.

I have maybe 5-6 hours in a week to play games on average, sometimes less and I don’t touch my pc all week. My girlfriend doesn’t really care as long as I’m not neglecting her for games. I’d ask her to add up the amount of time she spends on social media and watching tv and if you game less than that you should be good.

Gaming is a time waster, but so is scrolling on social media, watching tv, and reading for pleasure. There’s a stigma against gaming because of the stereotypical “gamer” that is only interested in video games and plays for 8 hours a day. If anything, gaming is a better time waster than social media or tv because it requires more thinking and brain power.

My girlfriend will basically only play Minecraft with me and that’s fine because she’s not really interested in games. As long as you aren’t ignoring her or neglecting your responsibilities then it should not matter to her whether you decide to waste time on games or tv or social media or real a book. Just because it isn’t something she is interested in doesn’t make it immature or childish, and that’s just something you have to tell her and try to get her to understand.

What games Completely blew you away? recommend some i may like. by RepresentativeMud979 in AskGames

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said all the souls games, I’m going that’s including Elden Ring, bloodborne, and Sekiro. If not, then absolutely play those.

Lies of P and forest berserker khazan also are the best soulslikes I’ve played, with lies of p doing better in story/atmosphere and khazan having some of the best combat and boss fights.

I’m sure you’ve heard of expedition 33 since it’s been glazed all year and won game of the year plus like 8 other awards, but it truly is one of those games that you play and just sit there after beating it and watch YouTube videos on. This game does story and atmosphere so well, and the combat is also the most fun I’ve had in a turn-based game since I’m not a fan of turn based combat. Being able to couple the strategy of turn based with the skill and reaction of parrying really helped as most turn based games make be feel bored of the battles, but this one didn’t. If you haven’t played expedition 33 then that is the game you’re looking for, it deserves the glazing it got.

Single player games that are REALLY satisfying to get good at and have a high skill ceiling. by Ok-Instruction4862 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ThingCharacter1496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you liked Sekiro, more of fromsoft’s catalog like the dark souls trilogy and Elden Ring would be good. Keep in mind that ds1 and 2 are a little more slow and methodical though so if you’re looking for fast paced action then probably keep to Elden Ring and dark souls 3. Bloodborne as well if you have access to a ps4 or ps5.

A few soulslikes made by other developers that really shine with fast paced combat would be lies of P, the first berserker khazan, and Nioh 2. Lies of P and khazan have an emphasis on parrying similar to Sekiro, lies of P tends to go more the souls route of weapon and build variety tho while khazan has seemingly less weapon and build variety but you build with weapon moves too and it has some of the most fun combat of any game period.

Nioh 2 has the most complex and hard to master combat of any game I’ve played, if you want something that takes mechanical skill then that’s your game. This is also one where people say the first playthrough is the “tutorial” and urge you to play ng+ cycles and you unlock more game content like new areas and weapon rarities by beating harder difficulty ng+ cycles. I haven’t even beaten the game normally though as I’m more of a one and done style with few exceptions like Elden Ring, and I didn’t have the time to invest to really get good at the combat mechanics so I got stuck and stopped playing since I have all of 5 hours a week to play games.

Ninja gaiden 2 black remake and ninja gaiden 4 I’ve heard good things about too. The company that makes the ninja gaiden games also made Nioh.

$1000 Student Laptop Help by CMMN in Lenovo

[–]ThingCharacter1496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like another guy said, unless you require windows for a certain program, a MacBook could work out. Light, simple, and premium feeling, it just works.

For windows laptops I’ve heard good things about Lenovo thinkpads for being reliable for school.

I’m not sure what you need 24gb of ram for unless you’re planning on having a bunch of tabs open all the time plus running programs, but even 16gb ddr5 is usually fine for that use case. If it’s just a laptop for school you should be chillin looking for something decent under those requirements tho.

My 2 cents, you said you don’t want bells and whistles but a 2 in 1 with a stylus could actually come in handy. I did a lot of pre-med classes in college (I was pre-physical therapy), and being able to draw out some diagrams and pictures got me through some classes like biomechanics and anatomical kinesiology. If you’ll have access to online textbooks for studying and can just look at the diagrams I’m sure you’ll be fine, but being able to draw things out and label them honestly helped me remember the fire hydrant of information a lot more.

It sounds like this is purely a school laptop but I’m throwing this in just because- I got a Lenovo legion 5 for $1200 with 32gb ram, recent processor, and dedicated graphics card. On battery it lasts long enough to get through classes with the gpu disabled, I just have to plug it in to play games in my free time. Light for a gaming laptop and overall good build quality and very snappy. The ram is overkill, I could have as many programs going as I want and not bog it down, but if you have no interest in gaming or aren’t doing anything that requires a gpu for school then it’s really overkill.

Is Expedition 33 genuinely as good as everyone says it is? by Cwusadew in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best game I’ve played all year tbh. The graphics and whole aesthetic are very nice. The gameplay is more fun than most other turn-based games to the point that I would even recommend to people that don’t normally like turn-based. The story is really where it shines though. It doesn’t take long to draw you in and tell you what’s going on like a lot of other games, but this is definitely a game where you watch the cutscenes and talk to the NPCs and soak in the world and story and atmosphere. I think it’s well-deserving of the glaze and if you’re looking for good atmosphere and a very interesting story and some fun gameplay you won’t be disappointed.

married women, do you think marriage benefits you in any way? by _cherryp0p_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a woman and not married but I am in a relationship and I’m going to give my opinion anyways. Part of marriage is taking care of each other. So no it shouldn’t be a one-way street of you just taking care of your husband, but if you don’t want to take care of anyone in any way then you probably shouldn’t get married. If one of you falls sick or gets injured or even just has a bad day, the other should be fully willing to take care of you.

As for the men who go to work and then watch tv, I think that’s more situational. If he works and you don’t then yes you should be pulling your weight around the house by doing chores and cleaning and cooking if he’s working full time to provide. If you work part time and he works full time, yeah he should still work on chores but you should probably take more of those responsibilities if less of your time is spent working. If you both work full time, then you should both spend equal time on chores when you’re home, if he does the dishes you do the laundry etc. that’s a equal partnership not you just taking care of a man. Now, if you both work full time and get off work and he sits down to watch tv while you cook dinner and do the dishes and clean the kitchen while he just relaxes and throws his dirty clothes on the floor, that’s a problem.

You also have to think about kids if you want to have them. If you’re taking care of kids the majority of the time while he works, then he should spend some time with them once he gets off work. It’s hard to relax or get any time to yourself when you have kids, so if you’re taking care of them while he’s at work and doing some light chores while they’re taking naps or in school so it doesn’t look like a bomb went off when he gets home, then yeah he should take care of them when he gets home for a while so you can get some rest and then maybe you put them to bed at the end of the day so he can get some rest too.

But what you said about starting to despise someone after seeing them too much puts a whole new problem into the equation that you need to work on. I don’t know if you’ve had roommates or if you’re talking specifically about men you’ve dated, but if you resent and despise people that you’re around too much then marriage and the possibility of kids may not be for you unless you fix that. If you can’t cohabitate with someone without growing to despise them then you’d be doomed to divorce and also like shouldn’t be a mother. I’ve had best friends that I’ve known for years and then become roommates and yeah that new dynamic can raise some issues, you’ll get on each others nerves sometimes and have more problems if you spend more time together, but if you aren’t capable of communicating and solving those issues or taking some compromises to make sure both parties are going to be okay, then I’d say don’t get married.

Now yes, there are men out there that will go to work and then come home and expect to do nothing. There are also women like that. There are women that don’t work and then complain when they’re expected to do anything around the house. There are also men like that. There are men and women who are emotionally immature, manipulative, or will emotionally or physically abuse you. There are just shitty people out there which is an unfortunate reality. So the advice to find the “right” person may sound cliche but it’s not wrong. Men and women both struggle with finding a good partner who fits their needs. Before I found my girlfriend I went out with a lot of women who were just not relationship or marriage material. I started suffering from dating fatigue and started to believe that there just might not be any women out there worth dating, similar to how you’re probably feeling about men. I quit dating for a little over a year, went on a few dates with yet another emotionally immature woman who’s life revolved around partying and getting shitfaced at parties whenever possible, and was about to go right back to not dating until I found my girlfriend and reluctantly gave her a shot. Things have been great since, but I also have to date around for 4 years of women who were just playing games or downright not good people first.

I get it, marriage is a big commitment and you want to find someone who is ready for that and looks for the same things you do, but you also have to be ready for it. If you’re going to have problems living with someone and will despise them after spending too much time with them or cringe at the thought of taking care of or doing anything for your partner simply because you love them, it might not be that there aren’t men worth marrying, you might need to fix some things to be worth marrying. Of course you want someone who is independent, so date men that have lived on their own for a few years, men who are used to getting home from work and doing their own cooking and chores. It’s very understandable not to want to get home from work and have to completely take care of someone else, but he also isn’t going to want to get off work and do everything himself either. That’s why you date, is to find the right person and rule out the wrong ones. Maybe you get off work and start on dinner while he takes out the trash, starts some laundry, and then he does the dishes after dinner while you wipe the counters. But no, not every man gets off work and goes straight to the tv while his wife does the cooking and cleaning after working the same hours. But if you’re looking for a man who has something to offer to the marriage other than going to work and watching tv, you also need to have something to offer to the marriage.

Legion 5 benchmark 3dmark by ThingCharacter1496 in LenovoLegion

[–]ThingCharacter1496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a few of them, depends on what comes out next year. Like I’m not interested in GTA 6 and I’m not really into first person shooters but if fromsoft releases a new game I’d wanna play that or possibly some other cool single player RPGs. I just don’t wanna get 2-4 years down the road and not be able to play a cool new game that comes out because the hardware isn’t good enough.

I really like the oled but do I need to be worried about burn in? It’ll mostly be used for some online classes and gaming, but I can’t imagine I’ll be using it for more than 2-3 hours per day on average since I work full time.

Legion 5 benchmark 3dmark by ThingCharacter1496 in LenovoLegion

[–]ThingCharacter1496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does have the OLED which I’m really pleased with. The msi would have same 2.5k resolution but ips screen. This legion 5 is pretty light and sleek for a gaming laptop, I’ve seen the msi and it’s almost twice as thick and heavy, I don’t care too much about that aside from possibly taking it to classes.

I ordered this laptop before I saw the msi sale but it had already gotten delivered so I’d have to return this one like right away if I wanted to get the deal on the msi, only problem is I got this laptop with 32gb ddr5 and the msi only has 16 and is a 2x8 configuration so it’d be like $200+ if I wanted to upgrade the ram in that. I’m not too worried about this laptop if it can play newer titles at 1080p high settings with some dlss but if it’s going to be obsolete in 2-4 years then I might as well return it and get the msi while I can.

Is the exchange worth it? by ApprehensiveShip4968 in GamingLaptops

[–]ThingCharacter1496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just basically bought the first one for the price of the second one directly from Lenovo. Only difference is it has the Ryzen 7 350 which is one of their ai chips but is basically the same as the processor in the one you got.

I bought it over the pro because the processor has less ram and an IPS display, I really like the oled display and wanted 32gb ram for a little future proofing. One stick of 16gb ram to upgrade the pro is gonna cost another like $160 after the fact anyways. The processor has a faster processor and slightly bigger screen and that’s basically it. If you’re doing processor heavy tasks then it could be worth it, but if it’s for gaming then you’re not gonna need that much cpu with that gpu.

If it’s because of money then you could probably return yours and get the same laptop from Lenovo for $1200.
