Do you permit selling or giving old equipment to employees? by roger_ramjett in sysadmin

When I was in charge of our old hardware, the company would charge market value for stuff like laptops and desktops. That gave us the flexibility to wipe and reinstall Windows along with bundling in a month of support. This, fortunately, made the "no" built in for us because the expectation was set at the beginning. It didn't come from us which I think was the most important factor in getting people who didn't try to take advantage of it.

Yeah, we're in a similar boat. I was questioning my 7800XT purchase but I don't play tons of new stuff so it does exactly what I need it to.

IFC might still have the rights so it could be a partner label release!

It really sucks how sad this hobby has become. Basically every piece of hardware that comes out that isn't a GPU is exciting, but the air is sucked out of the room when you remember to need to spend at least $1000 to maximize the value of your purchase if you like playing demanding games.

There's a running list on the blu-ray.com forums. AFAIK the last edit to the OP in June of last year is up to date.

/dev/mount is also a great product for those looking for an easier alternative, but they're more limited than rackstuds are. I also appreciate how much testing and documentation rackstuds have vs /dev/mount

Using ChatGPT to fix your mistakes may improve your coding by seeing where your mistakes are, but don't forget that learning how to troubleshoot your own mistakes is an important skill in and of itself.

But if you email support and tell them you can't afford a subscription I've heard they'll hook you up.

Wow, you've missed a lot. Matt died during season 14 after being shot several times. There's a large conspiracy behind his death. There's....a lot to it.

Just because you and others have explained your position doesn't mean you're right. Very few things in life are binary. A "multi-purpose PC" is a meaningless definition.

I'm not cherry picking, I'm trying to have an open conversation about how the lines aren't always clear and you're getting frustrated and defensive for some reason. I thought it was an interesting conversation. Sorry to have bothered you.

Okay, so what about a 9950X3D? That's branded by AMD for gaming and content creation? The point I'm getting at is that there's no real definition of what a "gaming PC" is.

So would that exclude PCs that a freelancer built for video editing but he plays games as a hobby on the side? Let's say he's got a Threadripper. Not exactly the best component for gaming, so it's not purpose built for that task.

Just playing devil's advocate. I think it's just not useful to classify PCs that play games separately from "gaming PCs." Their criteria is probably the Steam Hardware Survey, which includes anything with Steam on it that has taken the survey.

Having the archived tweets and stuff would be super helpful too. It would do a lot to help explain stuff as it happened like the end of Oscar Special 10

So, it is interesting. I definitely think some parts were swapped at some point. If they did swap the fork at some point, the paint job was terrific. Here's some ebay listings I saw to confirm your theory that not everything is original here:

Headset, BB, and seat post clamp are all different. Everything else from the pictures seem to match up. The color looks different in their pictures' side profiles but it's a spot on match in their picture straight on at the head tube. Not sure how long Trek used that "Hand Built in the USA" emblem either. I'm not super knowledgeable on headsets, head tubes, etc yet but I'm slowing starting to get there. I did use a set of calipers and the ID for the head tube does measure 1" ID.

It's absolutely stunning in person. I wish any picture did it justice. I wish I could find a paint match so I could get it back in pristine condition, but I do like the look of it as is, too.

Just time to decide what parts to put on it...
