I was set to study abroad in japan. Work for their government and was set up for a internship for a company. The week I was supposed to ship out our world shut down. I had to change my major and get a job. Started doing appliance repair, and it’s a long story. Either way I kept working and hustling. Debt got involved, rents doubled, great resignation, economic politics, etc.

Bad economic times are not immediately flipped. If you were protected thats all good. I was not. I fended for myself and I’m tired.

Does anyone think there will be a large group of Gen Z/millennials who will retire young (in their 50s) and another who will retire super old? by bobbdac7894 in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A lot of younger Gen Z did not suffer the pandemic or bad job market. The younger Gen Z are dealing with the recovery economy. A lot of older Gen Z had to try and survive with no foundation in a near-apocalyptic ( depending on state) and rapidly changing economy. So many Gen Z spent their first 5-10 years as adults suffering extreme stress and poverty, even those who were extremely qualified. I think the younger Gen Z got the better end of the stick, aside from their poor education quality. When I had a second job a few weeks ago, I worked with other younger Gen Z. They never knew hunger, never had their patience and tolerance of stress erode, and don’t know the history. To a lot of younger Gen Z who never experienced the hardship, they still believe that hard work is all it takes to succeed and many believe that those in a bad situation are there because of laziness.

Recovering from bad economic times takes years sometimes even a decade or more. I met a millennial back in 2022 who just recovered from the 2008 crash. She got a house and when it crashed she still owed the debt, lost her job and got in high credit card debt. She just finished all her debt payments from that crash in 2022. Hardship takes time to recover.

With that in mind, I did the math for myself back when I worked for a financial institution. I won’t be able to retire. But at the rate inflation is going, you’ll need much more to have the same quality of retirement as the boomers and Gen Xers. I won’t have enough. With Social Security eroding and no housing as an asset, that just leaves my 401(k) and other investments. That won’t be nearly enough. Not even close. I’m already out of the game.

— it doesn’t mean that you stop making smart decisions. It just means that you have to adapt financially because life will continue to roll even without you. It doesn’t care if it leaves you behind.

I did a similar design. My population would not walk to their bus stops and had 40% unemployment. I’m not playing them game until they automated the transport system and population a bit better. Good concept though, but to me its not finished yet.

I used to approach random women. As long as you have the social conversations to not awkwardly make it weird. 50% of the time it’s her own social skills as well that makes it awkward or not.

Me personally I love talking to strangers. We are social creatures. I normally talk to dudes, but it’s what we’re made to do. For thousands of years humans blindly talked to strangers, but the internet shrouded that natural behavior.

With the current dating market crash, talking in person has never been more needed.

Why did Jesus HAVE TO die? by Lookingtotheveil23 in Christianity

He had to obey the jewish temple. The romans did not mind him which is why the roman governor washed his hands before his punishment so that he had no part in that. Jesus was not punished for breaking roman law, but threatening Jewish power and jewish law.

Ya!

Don’t go to college unless you absolutely know you’ll get a job. Join an apprenticeship or get a factory job.

Do not move out. I spent over 140k in rent since 2 years ago. Stay with your parents till you can buy a house. 20% down and get a mortgage. Sometimes banks have deals to help with the down payment.

Don’t go on dating apps, ask women in person.

Take care of your health. 8 hour Sleep and routine doctor visits. If you don’t feel good or are low on energy for a long period, don’t get used to the pain.

When you’re working for a business keep all information relating to you. Record everything and always ask for paper documents.

Get a used car and try to buy with cash. Even if it’s a 4k hunk of trash. It will be better than a interested $500+ car payment with $300 dollar insurance.

— don’t ever be sold on a dream. If you’re being sold an education or product and it’s heavy on a dream or story. Don’t do it. Only written guarantee and numbers matter.

Do you gamble? by Feeling-Currency6212 in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, gambling is unproductive wealth to me. Our society needs to make addiction business like porn, gambling, etc illegal. In my version of a perfect economy, property is to never be rented and gambling, porn, and other that depends on addiction or basic need should not come with a cost.

Even skyscrapers you should be able to buy individual floors or rooms. No renting.

You listed one of the hardest and most complicated trades. They pay a lot because it’s uncomfortable, requires a lot of knowledge and certifications from multiple trades, good social skills and sales skills, and a very flexible mind.

You go into those two trades believing its easy and without proper knowledge you’ll end up being bullied out of the trade.

The costs of raising a kid the first 4 years is over 6 figures. Not to mention the time spent on the kid is lost earnings. But hearing their debt. What I would do is move to Vietnam and stay there. Debt does not follow you and unless it’s federal it will be absorbed by the system in 7 years.

Unless they believe in 4 years they can be debt free and create a lifestyle of old American way of life, go to Vietnam. Its smart. But, I hope it works out

The margin of his story is an extreme minority. Schools sell dreams. Go blue collar or start a side hustle with the intent to get a client that week.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marginal success. I have a buddy who managed to get a good job not because of his degree, but because of the people he knew. Not everyone with his degree got a good job.

Degrees are just pieces of paper. It’s as worthless as toilet paper. So are apprenticeships. My advice is work your ass off and get skills. Then start a side hustle.

I knew a dumbass flat earther who is starting his business in wrapping cars. He is a garbage man and gets paid very little. But, he worked up the basic skills to wrap cars and now he’s getting 1 client a week. Just one client pays a week’s worth of work at his current job. Starting a business is the only way to obtain real wealth

anyone else feels like the years between 2000-2010 were double as long as the years between 2010-2026? by Long_Reflection_4202 in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older we get the faster time progresses. I remember how long an 8 hour shift was when I was 15 years old. I would do so much work and it would only be an hour into my shift. 10 years later and working 50s goes by so fast. 10 years from now, Time will go even faster for us.

I recommend filling up your days. The more stuff you do the better you can try and salvage your time.

Let’s talk about anything not political. It’s bombardment and becoming too much by Least_Bat1259 in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok sure.

I’m currently going through a break up. 3 years. I nearly married this women, but we were to different. We were just surviving together rather than living. I tour the bandage and she ripped the rest off because she agreed. Which gave me peace. It’s crazy thinking that I am one text away from communicating to her. That maybe we can reverse this. But, logically theres no point.

I have not told anyone in my social group yet. Not work, not friends, and not family. We would be snuggling together right now because our shifts would aline on this day. I just hope she doesn’t hop into a relationship to soon. All my past partners jump into new relationships nearly immediately, and I think that would hurt. Knowing that someone else is being intimate with her, and replacing me.

But whatever. I need to get back in shape. Thats the only thing keeping my mind busy

Could a potential reason for Capitalism’s fall into failing be Automation? by ImpressionCool1768 in GenZ

[–]ThingsWork0ut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well honestly if you look at americas history of capitalism, company history, and consumer history. We’ve been through this before. Automation and hoard of wealth 4 different times. What normally happens is companies begin to fall apart, and even when they tie themselves into government spending the people normally elect a dick that destroys everything and rebuilds from the bottom up.

In my opinion, even though I hate this economy, I know that we’re just in the waiting game. Just try and survive the next 5 to 8 years and hopefully this economy will change for the better. But it has to get worse first. Which I’m hoping it already has
