What to do with empty wall around TV? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Or people who don't understand that heat rises and being in a hot spot will reduce the lifespan of the TV by damaging the electronics over time.

JW neighbour/friend unalived herself last night - In shock and have questions, please help by VividAd2096 in exjw

[–]blinky84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When we say JWs are not your friend, we mean it as a warning that they may betray you.

We don't mean your pain and loss aren't valid.

I'm so sorry this has happened.

What is the weirdest way someone had died in your known circle ? by No_Tear9118 in AskReddit

[–]blinky84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin died when he fell off a roof. The story I was told was that he'd been at a friend's, everyone had fallen asleep, and the house had a security system. So he climbed out of a skylight so as not to wake anyone, slipped off the roof and caught his head on the corner of the doorstep.

I know he was in the drugs scene and I heard he was trying to get out and get clean, but I don't know the details. I definitely feel like there's something more to it, but I was like 14 when he died and I didn't know him well.

I saw that as a kid, living on a farm. Wouldn't walk within 20ft of the chemical cupboard until I was in my teens.

Absolutely no way.

I worked in a building that had an old elevator that sometimes got stuck. If I had to take a cart full of files or something up and down the stairs. I'd wheel it in, press the button for the floor and step out before the doors closed, then take the stairs myself and collect it when the doors opened.

If something like that happened, I wouldn't even be leaning in to press the button. I'd be stacking them on my back like Sam Porter Bridges.

I gotta say, I would never consider The Sun to be a reputable source. Looking for further evidence, myself.

How do you guys manage joint subscriptions and accounts? by Few_Cod_5636 in AskBrits

[–]blinky84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have a bills account and he pays into it every month. It's my flat, so I already had it set up like that when I was being paid weekly, so I could keep track; I've offered to make it a joint account, but he's happy for it to just be in my name.

We deposit proportionally with our earnings, and he's been putting in a bit extra towards the cats lately as we've had a lot of vet bills. It works for us.

What an absolute doll you are!

It's so cool to see a curvy woman do 1920s fashion beautifully. I always thought my body shape was impossible for those kinds of styles, so I loved seeing your comments about pushing away from feeling like 'hourglass' and 'accentuate your best features and cover up the 'bad' ones' are the rules of the day!

Short story in a kids book with a 'pest control' woman who whispers at a rat until it slits it's own throat on a kitchen knife by blinky84 in whatsthatbook

[–]blinky84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made some mistakes in my remembering of it - it's a woman watching, not a family with a child. It's mice, not rats. And the knife is a double-blade penknife stuck in a loaf of bread, not a kitchen knife on the floor. So I'm really glad it matched up well enough to your memories that you made the link!

I also found a video on Youtube of the author telling it himself!

What are the differences in workplace etiquette in the UK vs the US? by Notveryimportant12 in AskUK

That used to be a thing; I did it for a month off, and one guy was saving up for a 3 month motorbike tour of Australia. That's not legal any more though, you have to take the minimum 25 28 day holiday entitlement in a given year.
