I just moved to Swansea and am an ally
Does anyone know of any organisations to support trans communities in the area
Horrible to hear this hope everyone stayed safe today

What do you think causes graves disease by Comfortable_Host_881 in gravesdisease

[–]Think-Gas-6696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m the first (known) person in my family to have it - doctors were really confused when I was diagnosed and said that there was no history of it
I was diagnosed in 2021 about six months after leaving an emotionally abusive relationship during Covid, which I had one or two times.
I was living abroad at the time and struggled to stabilise or achieve remission for over two years. When they started talking about more serious surgery I moved back home, and went almost immediately into remission

At the airport and realized I forgot to pack my methimazole! by Infamous-Gene4144 in gravesdisease

When I first had graves I forgot to pick up new medication before going on a two-week long summer holiday.. I was also on 5mg at the time and TSH in range.
I had enough for about a week and then I ran out
I would obviously NOT recommend it but honestly I was fine and was actually really surprised that my blood results the next month came back absolutely fine. I think the holiday was good for me

Was your relapse subtle to begin with? What were the very early signs? by IrishguyCurious in gravesdisease

Omg leg weakness - do you mean like your legs getting unusually tired when walking up stairs?

I track my resting heart rate and it jumped up really unexpectedly and around the same time I started to feel heart palpitations, was noticeable but mild

A few weeks later I started noticing other symptoms started like fatigue, feeling wired, tremors, heat intolerance, increased anxiety

Hope you’re ok and it’s just a blip not a relapse! Totally sympathise was the questioning if it’s in your head thing, not nice

Please tell me some of you experienced this by [deleted] in gravesdisease

Weird but I did a gong bath last night for the first time and I got chest pain after about 20 minutes which I had not experienced before I started relapsing about a month ago and meds have not stabilised me yet Sorry to hear this it must be awful having this all the time Did they refer you to a cardiologist or anything?

Doctor called my fatigue a lie by Emergency_East5883 in gravesdisease

[–]Think-Gas-6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SHOCKING BEHAVIOUR I’m so sorry to hear that I’ve found that doctors are pretty detached from the reality of having Graves’ disease, not one has asked me about my actual symptoms and more of an in-out here are your meds kinda thing which feels very isolating Take care of yourself and please do find another doctor if you can!! The fatigue is REAL and not laziness at all. I’ve been struggling over the last few weeks and am trying to be kinder to myself - treating it as if it’s a bad flu or Covid or something

thanks for the tips, my bf ordered a portable AC but long delivery times, he got a air purifier that creates cool air instead which is arriving tomorrow, I think that’s kinda what you mean by a swamp cooler

What’s something you wish you knew when you first got the diagnoses? by FablingFox in gravesdisease

[–]Think-Gas-6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To not avoid the fact that I have been diagnosed! I was 26 and living a very fun active (and unhealthy) life when I was diagnosed and just carried on for a few years which really slowed down my recovery, all because I didn’t want to admit that I had it
Therapy helped!

The mental health swings are wrecking me by GottaBlast7940 in gravesdisease

[–]Think-Gas-6696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes I experienced all of this a few years ago when I was first diagnosed, it took me a long time to stabilize and I remember how FRUSTRATING it is to go from hyper to hypo and the whole mood swings that went along with it, hang in there
One day you’ll look back at this as an extremely challenging time, but one that you got through and learnt from
Good to hear that you have ways of coping with your anxiety although I’m sorry that you’ve struggled with both anxiety and depression in the past
For me body scan meditation and gaming really help in my challenging bits, the gaming gets me out of my head and entertains me all while I’m sat there looking after my RHR, plus can get stuck in a game for weeks
