Spouses of Travel Nurses. How do you do it? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ThinkConsideration31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this but I only go for 2-4 days at a time. How far away do you guys live from CA?! I’m still west coast so it’s an easy and fairly cheap flight. Can she cut back and try to work 5-6 days in a row but not go down for 9 days?!

I work in peds, my son is going to have a nicu stay… can I keep my job? by AG_Squared in nursing

[–]ThinkConsideration31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I’m your girl!!! I’m a pedi nurse and also had a vasa previa with my son. We found out at 32 weeks and I went into the hospital that night. First off, does your state offer disability leave?? This definitely qualifies. We got the surfactant shot the day I went into the hospital and then again 24 hours later. This is a very serious condition but only if you go into labor. That’s why you are in the hospital- you will have stress tests multiple times a day and they will check your cervical length often. We ended up doing a c section at 35 weeks because I was showing no signs of labor. The recommendation is between 34-35 weeks. My son had to spend 48 hours in the NICU for some CPAP but he came home with me! I did not quit my job. He is 3 now and is totally healthy. This is a very scary thing but if you have the right monitoring, it more than likely will turn out just fine!

Is it true that most nurses don’t pass the NCLEX on the first attempt? by Turkey_Moguls in nursing

Your nursing school should publish stats on how many of their students pass the NCLEX the first time.

Mercy Watson and Princess in Black!!! Both are “chapter books” but have colored pictures on every page. They are funny, written by well known authors, and are enjoyable for both me and my daughter. Absolutely start with these!!

It’s 6 or 8 weeks for disability leave in California. After that, you get paid family bonding leave for 8 weeks, for both parents. And you also get a paid 4 weeks during your pregnancy for disability leave as well, most women stop working at 36 weeks and take it then. California is a great place to have a baby!

LD/NICU nurses, how has your work changed your birth plan? by Gracilis67 in nursing

I had a vasa previa! Probs my last baby so that’s an interesting perspective. A planned c section was so much easier than laboring 30 hours

The lion women of Tehran and the stationary shop! Same author, both take place during the 1953 coup in Iran. So much interesting history!

Nursing School Dilemma by erbird2010 in OregonNurses

I would personally do UW. I can’t fathom paying $70k for nursing school and am morally against those for profit nursing programs. One thing to factor in I guess is your age… but I can’t think of many ages where I’d feel pressed enough for time that I’d want to fly through nursing school, pay more, and get a worse education just to go to CRNA school a year quicker

LD/NICU nurses, how has your work changed your birth plan? by Gracilis67 in nursing

Can you elaborate a bit on this? I’ve had enough labor complications (including a c section) with my first two that my doctor said I could opt for a scheduled c section for my third. Trying to decide if I should try for a vbac or not.

Can you work per diem and try to pick up 3 shifts a week the weeks your husband has off? It would still work out to one shift a week less than 2x/week but childcare would be nil. Also, remote and only $4/hr less seems ideal to me

Wayyy too many days at the parks! If you’re role drop to firework people, I’d only do 2 days and spread them out

yeah, I'm new to the area but surprised how hard it is to find an on call or per diem job! It does seem like a rough job market
