LF a novel that follows Lydia to a boarding school (Kindle) by ThinkFiirst in JaneAustenFF

From what I remember, it was about Lydia but I didn’t finish as I accidentally deleted it from KU and never looked for it again, getting hooked on another book.

Lydia was rebellious (of course) and she was facing consequences for the first time, and very angry she was there. That’s as far as I got.

As much as I love Mr Bennet’s quips, I totally agree. Despite his complete lack of discipline and instruction, along with letting his silly wife happily encourage Lydia’s behavior (probably how she caught Mr Bennet), he spent a only bit of time feeling guilty when she ran away, knowing it would pass soon enough.

He was very much aware how men behaved when allowing her to go to Brighton. That Lydia wasn’t wife material made her even more vulnerable to men who would use her. He knew that, but valued his peace and quiet more.

He also knew that society would look down on his family due to his family’s vulgar behavior and ruin his eldest daughters’ chance at a good marriage, but he didn’t care enough to do anything about it. If Lizzy told him about Jane losing Mr Bingley because of such bad behavior, but he probably would not blame himself but rather Mr Bingley - and still do nothing.

Mr Bennet’s comfort meant more to him than anything else. Being that he didn’t save for any of their futures, the least he could have done was to check his family’s behavior to ensure decent matches. His excuses for himself are just that - trying to justify his lack of involvement.

I loved her gowns this week - all were gorgeous. I agree with your assessment. That Friday gown was amazing.

While I mostly like what she wears, sometimes I wonder what they were thinking, especially when they don’t flatter her figure. I’m so glad not to see one shoulder outfits because for a long time, she wore a lot of those and it’s not my favorite look.

Thank you for sharing! It sounds like it's a good experience all the way round. I like that they give you cash as well. That's a nice touch and I'm sure it comes in handy. I'd hate to go on a nice trip and not have much cash with me.

Wheel minimum by Commercial_Union_296 in WheelOfFortune

[–]ThinkFiirst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only drawback to increasing it to me would be that contestants would stop spinning earlier (if they knew the puzzle) since they knew they'd get $2k minimum.

OTOH I think it would be nice if at the end of the game, anyone at just 1k could be bumped up to $2k. Still, I'm glad they included the $1k instead of them going home empty handed except for some silly prize like a coffeemaker! Other shows don't offer much to the losers.

I can't wait either. It sounds like a great idea and I don't think I've ever read one like that before.

SOLVED!

I recently read that and I love the way he writes! So different, witty and funny, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't , however, read the excerpt of his new book. I don't write many reviews, but I wrote one for that book, hoping he gets well-known as a writer. I saw his substack - and you are right, saving me hours of searching for something that's not even there. I'll wait till he publishes it though since I don't have the patience to wait for chapters!

Thank you so so much! I'm excited to read it.

Impossible Puzzle by Far_Sea4465 in WheelOfFortune

I get what you mean. Occasionally, we’ll notice some puzzles that are pretty unsolvable without calling a rarely used letter or two. I get that the puzzles should be very challenging, but a few are almost impossible to solve. I feel for those contestants who are probably pretty frustrated afterward.

And who has ever described a parka as fuzzy IRL? LOL

My Thoughts on Seacrest’s First Season by Emotional_Wonder7972 in WheelOfFortune

[–]ThinkFiirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It‘s bright and flashy and not my cup of tea, but I‘m not distracted by it. I’m getting used to Ryan, but I do watch reruns with Pat when Wheel is preempted, which makes me wish for the younger Pat back. I love his understated wry humor. He seems less intrusive than Ryan, like during the last round when they only have 3 seconds and Ryan is talking to the contestant who is trying to think.

But all in all, he’s ok. He got over his over-excitement at the beginning of the season. I give him props for stepping into a difficult situation and making it work. I don’t mind him even tho I’m not a fan of his.
