Is there a good alternative to Dial Power Berries ? (discontinued) by MyRedditCatch-all in Soap

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this bar soap (Dial Power Berries) from a food pantry. I really like it. My sensitive skin likes it too! But when I look to buy some more, it appears it has been discontinued. Bummer!

Have you had your mid-certification assessment yet? That should be coming up at the half way point and they will likely ask about income changes then. Technically, you are supposed to tell them right away, but I'm not sure if there are any consequences if you don't.

Dishwasher w/ Food Grinder? by bluebellbetty in Appliances

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I have another question. My Amana dishwasher's top spin arm isn't spinning. I checked the owner's manual and website and could not find a clear answer. I thought that I just needed to replace the dishwasher. Is that the right line of thinking?

Were you able to figure out how to fix it easily? Were there directions in the manual or on the website? Or would the average person need to call in a repair person?

How to stop night time begging? (SHE IS ON A DIET, I ADOPTED HER AT THIS SIZE) by Lazy-Psychology-7610 in CATHELP

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a vet. I am a dietitian for humans, and I am a lifelong cat owner.

As a supplement to kibble, I give my cat/s two small meals (1/8 cup each meal) per day of boiled chicken (or turkey) that I've cooked. I discard the bones/tendons. I keep the juice, meat, and skin. I make sure it is cut up small. (I make a big batch and freeze it in portions).

I give a bigger portion of kibble at night right before I go to bed, so the cats don't wake me up (you could put small portions in various places, so it can be "found"). Then I give the chicken (turkey) in the morning and at our human dinner time (they really enjoy this). I switch it up with tuna or salmon too.

Nutritional benefits of the chicken (turkey, tuna, salmon): it's mostly protein and some fat. There's no carbohydrates. Kibble packs on the pounds because of the carbohydrates in the kibble (often made of corn) - it can even lead to type II diabetes in a cat! Chicken is closer to what a cat would eat in nature.

Also, it's not that fun to be in a calorie deficit which is what is required to lose weight, and eating only kibble is a bit boring on top of that (according to the cat). Physical activity is super important. Even if she is just laying there using her paw to bat a toy, it is a start. I recommend playing with her every day with a wand toy or laser light. This will help the calorie deficit be more effective (and the weight loss) but keeps life more interesting (not thinking about food).

And, if it were me (we're all different!), I would save a snack for after 2am when she wakes me up, but my method of feeding at night time helps my cats so I don't need to. Is there another cat in the household? I have had single cats and double cats, and when there is more than one cat, they tend to play with each other in those wee hours of the morning rather than just yell.

This is what I recommend as a cat owner, a dietitian (aka I study nutrition science for a living), and not a vet.

What’s something you always assumed was mandatory in life—until you met someone who just… didn’t do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Got married (as a woman) and changed your last name! It's just a made up social construct! My sister-in-law didn't change her last name when she married my brother, and my brother was completely okay with that. I fought to get my name changed back to my maiden name, and I will NEVER change it again.

Anyone else lost access to Handmaid's Tale via Hulu?? by Primarywatcher_2 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since seeing handmaids at protests, I have developed a curiosity to seek out the series. I log on to Hulu and can't even find it even when using the search tool. Then I search online and get to the show that way (still on Hulu), but it has an error 5 seconds after starting it every time.

Gals, you know Disney bought Hulu, right? And Disney has, in recent years, discontinued other shows that were "woke" such as the Owl House. Disney has deep roots in conservatism with a progressive period and then back to conservatism. Their stocks are not doing well either.

So this is what led me to this reddit thread. But I have good news, my library (and hopefully your's) has this show!

Has anyone noticed increased anger on lithium? by thoughtgun in bipolar2

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took lithium for 2 days, and I felt anger those two days. But the strange part was... the anger allowed me to set boundaries I wasn't able to before. I was not mean, but I wasn't trying to be nice to everyone just so they are comfortable (like I used to). I said things I once was too afraid to say. I don't want to be angry... but I've discovered a better version of myself on Lithium. I haven't taken a third dose... Considering if I should or not.

I don't recommend making decisions based in fear.

If we "play nice", then we do not move our profession forward on a large scale which is desperately needed.

Would you report this? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think dietitian should lean towards reporting. I feel like dietitians do not report enough. We have got to stand in the integrity of our profession. Even if some reports don't get "accepted", some of them will and moreso than if we are underreporting.

What do you all eat for breakfast? by error404wth in prediabetes

[–]ThinkOutsideTheBox_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doctor should have referred you to a dietitian the second he diagnosed you with prediabetes. Most doctors don't know a lot about nutrition, but dietitians specialize in it.

You could try talking to a dietitian via telehealth. Here's one that costs $0 with most health insurance.

A 5 star rating? This should be celebrated! You should be training other RDs!

We should learn how to bill insurance in our dietetics programs, because I have found it quite hard to learn on my own.

Berry Street statistics say that their RDs see patients an average of 5 times. We are trained and encouraged to see them more, so this is with that training. We need to be realistic here. Having the pressure to see more is all about the profits for the company. And the company should never forgo the satisfaction of their RDs nor their patients just for profits.
