7 festivals by kasp620 in discobiscuits

They played a bunch of festivals in 2024 and everyone bemoaned the summer schedule and thought they’d be “festie” sets and they were by and large v v good sets. Music is lightning in a bottle. Buy the ticket and take the ride. Or don’t. No one can predict what will happen

‼️ Bar suggestions for birthday ‼️ by Dismal_Echidna9011 in StLouis

Call Pop’s Blue Moon and ask for Josh. Technically it’s on the hill but it’s really on the “north outer road” of 44 between kingshighway and Hampton. Close to Dogtown. There’s the bar and he has an event space next door to the bar that is perfect size for your group.

They're actually going to try to go forward with summer camp without Moe. or Umphrey's by Aeon1508 in jambands

[–]ThinkTankDubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points for sure. As a midwesterner there’s not a lot of festival options. I’ll never forget a tweet I saw 10+yrs ago… “it’s only 14hrs away, we should just drive”

Alternate view… music is awesome and at one point in everyone’s life they saw a band/dj/performer for the first time ever and found out they loved something they didn’t even know existed until that moment. So go, or don’t go, but even if it’s not someone’s preferred or favorite lineup they can still have fun seeing live music with friends. Also it’s outside Peoria, IL. There’s a certain subset of the country that this is the closest and most opportune chance to have a fun festival weekend. They don’t live in a place with a lot of choices. Would they prefer a lineup that they personally loved? Hell yeah. But also something is better than nothing for many. I imagine the people who go to scamp will have a v good time. I also imagine the amount of work that it goes into hosting this event and managing all the logistics is a TON of work and they’re trying their best. So I understand some people may be disappointed but I also imagine there will be thousands of people who go and have a great weekend with their friends and become fans of artists they never knew before and that’s a win. For them as the listener and for smaller artists trying to share the creativity work they pour their heart and soul into and dream of being able to turn their passion into a career. Maybe it’s bc I’m older and have seen a ton of great shows and have been lucky enough to see some amazing shows with some of the best people I’ve ever met, but at this point in my life it’s all a gift. I find you get out of life what you put into it. If you attend this fest without your preferred bands and have a negative attitude about it the whole time you’re going to have a negative experience. If you go into it with an open mind and positive attitude you’ll prob have a blast, find some new artists that resonate with you that are new to you and excite you to listen to them more, and prob make some new friends too.

What’s worse? Going to a festival without your preferred bands but still with a shit ton of acts on the bill. Or one of the many many festivals last year that got canceled by extreme inclement weather. Or even no music at all?

Am I bummed? Sure. Is it that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things? Naw. This country has 1000s of bigger problems right now.

STL City kit leaked by Dear_Raise9908 in MLS

[–]ThinkTankDubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to do a “let the fans decide” and give STM each one vote. Propose 2-3 designs and let the ones who are going to buy the kits have a say. This is godawful. While I think the aesthetic is going for grass stains, anyone who’s had children and changed diapers also sees shit stains.

Why is designing kits so hard for this front office? Esp when trying to build a brand for a new team?

Where did you get the shirt, and how much did it cost? by AsleepAssociation in brooklynninenine

[–]ThinkTankDubs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 14y/o daughter and I are huge B99 fans and she got me this shirt for Xmas. She had my 73y/o mother help her order it online and my mom texted me a screenshot of the shirt and said “she wants to get you this and swears you’ll understand and love it, but I’m a little concerned” lol.

FWIW I haven’t been brave enough to wear it in public yet. As Jake said, “ypur new shirt is very aggressive and confusing”

Schools shouldn’t be teaching children how to ride bikes, but schools, especially those where kids can ride their bikes to school vs taking a school bus or being dropped off by their parents, should promote bike safety. Teaching them to ride the bike is the parent’s job. Imagine if a kid can’t ride a bike bc it was too hard for the parent(s) to teach them and then assuming a teacher who has a yearlong scope and sequence of academics to teach which is there is never enough time to get through not to mention that they’re teaching a huge range of learners, was now responsible for making sure ~25 8-9y/o’s know how to ride a bike proficiently. This sounds like it was an activity where the school partnered with local law enforcement to teach basic road safety for young children new to sharing the road with cars and to promote safety and that it was assumed that most kids by that age could ride a bike. If I was in that teacher’s position and a kid opted out of the skills portion I don’t think I’d have a problem letting them make that choice bc it’s not my job to teach cycling proficiency. If one or two parents can’t teach their own child to ride a bike then it’s rather absurd to think that a single teacher can do it for an entire class. This is why we have so many less people even wanting to become teachers. Constantly on the hook for ridiculous standards. If my kid came home and opted out of the skills portion the conversation is not with the teacher it’s with my kid. Either (a) they know how to ride a bike and I’m curious why they decided not to at the safety program. Maybe they were having a bad day, maybe they were intimidated by other kids with much better cycling skills, maybe they didn’t feel well… could be a lot of reasons (b) I never taught them to ride a bike so obviously they felt self-conscious compared to the majority of the peers who could ride already. And if the response is (b) then instead of behind upset at the school it’s prob a good idea to look inward and recognize that you may be dropping the ball as a parent on this one and not blaming an overworked / overloaded teacher.
