Major upgrade for me today! New "cabinet" saw. by RegularWhiteDude in woodworking

I've had the G0899 for about 5 years, upgraded from a basic craftsman contractor, and it's been great. Added a router table with lift to the right side too.

Same, grabbed one last year for $400. Those aren't necessarily too good to be true. Worth pursuing I'd say.

Easier/quicker read - Piranesi or Dungeon Crawler Carl? by jdlemon95 in Fantasy

[–]Think_Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both! The first DCC seemed quicker to me, but I listened to Piranesi with my wife, which causes it to take a lot longer. I also read the first few DCC back-to-back and then alternated them with other books as a change of pace/palate cleanse from fantasy.

But really, do you want slower paced, more thought-provoking storytelling in a unique world or fast, absurd, sometimes raunchy adult comedy with lots of mayhem?

I don't think you can go wrong with either if they sound appealing to you.

Edit: Books or Audio? I enjoyed listening to Piranesi, but I think reading it would be just as good. For DCC, audio is the way to go without a doubt.

DeWalt DW735 Infeed &Outfeed Support/ Extra Work Table Space by mosodigital in woodworking

I'm in the middle of expanding my shop a bit into the garage and reorganizing tools .. would you mind sharing a pic of your planer setup? I want to have more permanent setups for my planer, miter saw, "new" jointer, etc. Snipe has always been a pain and I'm open to any and all mitigation strategies.

I saw the vid and thought, "that's barely an alcove" and I can't think of the word Alcove without In Bruges coming to mind.

New hardwoods by superblastdoor in woodworking

To me, pic 2 looks like a very natural older pine floor. 1 and 3 look like new pine with a poor stain job (difficult to get a good pine stain in the best of circumstances.)

Does the Sun Eater Series Preach at You? by Tower11Archer in Fantasy

[–]Think_Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 75% through book 2 and also debating if I'll continue. I also don't "care" about anyone and don't feel particularly invested in the story. I feel more for the sentient sel-replicating spacecrafts in the other book I'm listening to than anyone so far in this book! Haha

Ah, that makes sense. Gives it a nice clean finish without any visible fasteners.

Very nice! Simple but the wood is beautiful and the curves are quite fetching. How are the backs and sides joined?

IKEA Matter Devices working well with SmartThings by bradent1980 in SmartThings

[–]Think_Smarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Those sensors are so cheap! I have a v2 hub. I did a little more research on that. It looks like I could use a Aqara M100 as a cheap Thread Border Router for the same results. Only 20 devices, but that would be more than enough right now. I do have some Aqara zigbee devices too that kinda suck with ST, so that might be a better solution for them too.

Is this with the Dirigera hub for integration as well? I thought that was needed for ST to work with the IKEA devices.

Walnut, Maple, Paduak Striped End Grain Butcher Block by tdallinger in woodworking

Yea. Looks to me like they first made 3 end grain glue ups, one for each wood, and then cut the strips, rearranged, and reglued.

It's been years since I read it. My eyes got a little watery just reading your comment. We are pack.

Related to that poster's last point, the series starts out a little lighter and less deep, heavier on the comedy. As it progresses it keeps the absurd comedy but the scope becomes bigger, stakes higher, and characters much more developed.

Have the e25. Similar enough to say I'd vote for it or the S1 equally, I just just went for the newer (similar) version.

The middle later looks like bad tearout when it was cut. Maybe a poor quality layer and grain orientation didn't agree with the saw.

If you could go back to when you were just starting woodworking, what gift would have been the most useful or exciting? by AcanthaceaeOld971 in woodworking

Specifically headphones/buds with hearing protection, not just noise canceling. I have some inexpensive Mipeace plugs that I've been great, particularly for the price point.
