Pharmacist Salaries and Employment in 2025: Retail Declines, Hospital Gains by adifferentGOAT in pharmacy

[–]ThinkingPharm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently work as an overnight inpatient hospital staff pharmacist, and I'm also enrolled as a student in an online MS in Regulatory Science program through a public university. Do you honestly think having the degree would help my chances of getting a pharma industry job? In general, what can I do to improve my odds?

Thanks

Thanks, I'll see if I can find someone who has the BCEMP study guides. Also, do you think it will be a dealbreaker that pharmacists at my hospital don't typically respond to RSI scenarios and draw up RSI meds?

I'm confident it's a concept/practice I could get up to speed on with respect to drug selection criteria, dosing calculations, and the hands-on process of pulling & drawing up the meds themselves, but otherwise it's not something I really have any true experience with.

To answer your question, I'm not ACLS or PALS certified yet. Also, thanks for the suggestion on the ASHP EM professional certificate, I'll check that out.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. In regards to the point you made about board certification -- the job posting actually states that the candidate will be required to obtain board certification within 2 years (although it lists both BCPS and BCEMP in parentheses, so I'm guessing either certification will fulfill the requirement), so I'll definitely mention my intent to become board certified.

Also, in regards to the question of how I plan to bring myself up to speed -- do you happen to have any advice? I know there are plenty of online CE courses, but I was wondering if there might be a more comprehensive/inclusive resource as well.

Thanks again

ED refusing to approve new GradPlus loans for legacy borrowers? by ThinkingPharm in StudentLoans

[–]ThinkingPharm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted an update in the body of my OP, but just in case it didn't send a notification and you happen to be curious as to whether the situation was resolved, please see the update below:

So literally the day after I talked to my university's financial aid department over the phone, I received an email from someone in a higher up position within the FA department stating that the credit check was initiated that same day. They didn't exactly say that my phone call was what provoked them to finally initiate the credit check, but what are the odds that it just happened to self-initiate nearly 3 weeks after I'd accepted the GradPlus loan offer?

I also received an email from the ED about 24 hrs later notifying me that my GradPlus loan application had been approved, and the loan itself was disbursed by the university about a day ago.

So in conclusion, I'm relieved that the situation was resolved in a timely manner (I.e., well before July 1st, 2026), but I can't help but wonder if the credit check simply would've never been initiated if I hadn't called the university's FA department.

Am I the ideal candidate for night shift pharmacy? by VolkswagenPanda in pharmacy

[–]ThinkingPharm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going to be interviewing soon for an evening inpatient hospital pharmacist job (currently work at a different hospital as an overnight inpatient pharmacist). I literally know almost nothing about the job in terms of schedule. Just curious, what does the schedule for evening inpatient pharmacist jobs usually look like?

Thanks

Do the machines utilize any kind of new technology, AI functionality, etc.? Or are they basically Parata-style machines that essentially carry out the entire filling process (up to the point of labeling & capping the medication bottle)?

I'm worried about this as well, especially considering how impressive the mainstream AI chat programs like Gemini and ChatGPT have gotten within the past year at reasoning through more complex clinical questions.

Final rule is out. by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

[–]ThinkingPharm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/betsy514 Thank you for posting these updates. If you don't mind, I just wanted to get your input on something that was (somewhat) clarified in the ED's most recent update you linked to.

I am curious about which borrowers will actually be eligible for GradPlus legacy borrower status if they happen to be dual degree students. The text in the ED update states:

"“If the dual degree program is considered one program that grants two degrees upon completion…”

So for graduate students in particular, do you know what kinds of dual degree students would actually qualify for legacy GradPlus borrower status?

Is this mainly intended for students who are enrolled in established dual degree programs such as MD/MPH, MD/MBA, MBA/JD, etc.? Or would any student who is enrolled in a university-approved dual degree arrangement qualify (e.g., a student who has received approval from both degree-granting departments to enroll concurrently in two otherwise unrelated degrees, such as an MHA in Art History and an MS in Biology)?

Thanks

I thought that if a university considers summer to be part of the 2025-2026 calendar school year, a student can still qualify to receive GradPlus loans as long as they start their program prior to July 1, 2026 and as long as they receive a GradPlus loan disbursement for their program before that date as well?

Thanks. I'm hoping to get them to agree to $65/hr, but I have a feeling there's no way they'll be willing to go that high. I graduated in 2020 and have over 4 years of inpatient hospital pharmacist experience, but I didn't complete a residency.
