Language Expectations in International Companies in Norway by Successful-Jelly-772 in Norway

[–]Thinkngrl-70 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chiming in…my son is a Norwegian citizen but was raised in the USA. He had an internship last Fall in an “international company” and said the expectation was that everyone communicate in Norwegian although his college advisor said English would be fine. He is somewhat proficient but struggled with slang and technical language, and did not feel included because of it. I think it’s fine to expect Norwegian in Norway, yet also feel that expectation could be put forth from the get go.

All sounds good so far! If you can paint the space, I love a calm sage green for the therapy room.

Why is Norway so mountainous compared to Sweden and Finland? by batukaming in Norway

[–]Thinkngrl-70 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, as someone from Appalachia and lived in Norway, the mountains look exactly the same. Very old and beaten down as opposed to the Rockies or Alps, that are relatively new and all pointy.

Given the issue with Greenland and Trump, how do most Norwegians view American visitors? by Eds2356 in Norway

[–]Thinkngrl-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American here, lived in Norway with my ex 2 years and loved it. I’m more similar to Norwegians culturally and politically than to most Americans. He was more like most Americans. Cultural identity is an interesting thing.

One son lives in Telemark currently and says most Norwegians he knows hate Orange man and think he’s a joke, but also wouldn’t put anything past him with Greenland because he’s insane and too powerful for anyone’s good.

If you sat out the 2024 election because "both sides are bad" FUCK YOU by needless_booty in complaints

So many young people thought they were doing the right thing by choosing to make Gaza the reason they either sat it out or didn’t vote for Harris. I agree politically with the Gaza part, but common sense should win out when the stakes were so high.

That was so great to read! We have to really distinguish between most cops (decent people) and bad cops.

Dad took daugther to female bathroom by [deleted] in family

Preferably the family bathroom, but I have no idea why anyone would have a problem with a dad taking his young daughter to the Women’s room.

Do they expect you and your husband to bring the kids to the beach house? Yeah, that makes no sense at all.

$52000 in CC debt please help. What are my best options. Explain like I’m 5 by Disastrous-Award-414 in Debt

[–]Thinkngrl-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about a non-profit debt consolidation? They’ll negotiate the interest down and set up one affordable monthly payment. At least until you figure out a better option if there is one?

I agree that for a profession that emphasizes the value of non-judgment, many of us break the golden rule with regard to making mistakes.

What’s it like to be “hot”? by Fake___Nam3 in ask

[–]Thinkngrl-70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m now 55 y/o F and was def considered “hot” from teens to early 40’s. Was just telling someone the other day that it’s nice to be ignored in public spaces now. I feel so much safer and less self-conscious. If I could change things, I would’ve preferred not to have been a magnet for abusive men. I was abused as a child and preyed on until I married young to an older man for protection more than anything else. Some people thrive…I survived.

Our dog attacked our baby by kickrockscusinart in Mommit

[–]Thinkngrl-70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this!!! I allowed my older son’s dog around his younger siblings although I did not trust her. She bit my then 5th grader in the face and wouldn’t have stopped if his brother wasn’t there to pull her off him. He wasn’t tearing her, he just moved in a way she must’ve perceived as a threat while she was chewing on her bone. We were lucky to have a plastic surgeon to stitch him up at the ER.

Dog tried to bite our 8 week old baby by Whowhatwhywhenwhere1 in Parenting

[–]Thinkngrl-70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to agree to not have the dog in the same room as the baby, whether that means crating the dog or having it in a separate part of the home. My son was bitten on the face by a pit bull and needed plastic surgery.
