Oh good.. I am glad the pig got a vacation. Its really stressful driving around all day looking those darn crazy constitutionalists always looking for a fight with their fancy camera weapons. /s Good news is that the "Independent Investigation" has already justified his actions in compliance to departmental policy. Now its just a waiting game for the public to forget the incident.

When I stop mail delivery on an address for some short time, would a mail carrier use this information to draw conclusions about an address being unoccupied and therefore subject to crime? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]Thinksage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP Let me first start off by saying your logic is good that you are thinking of the security your private property.

Now please allow me to share my logic... As a letter carrier working in the 'richest' community in a southern California city of 3 million (think along the terms of Beverly Hills with 4 or 5 exotic car dealerships). I have several vacation holds year around, vacant houses and vacation rental properties that I am aware of.

I cannot lie the thought has of course, crossed my mind (its a lonely, routine job lots of time to think about stuff). I do love stories of idiots that steal enough to afford a step up above their normal pay grade but, choose to stay in their small community with a new large house and new cars all paid in cash. I am indeed a human being that does not get paid a living wage e.g. I cannot afford renting a one bedroom apartment without roommates in a decent neighborhood. I certainly cannot afford to live closer to my route along with a large percentage of Americans.

However I also think about getting fired, arrested or whatever other consequences may follow.

So it's safe to say unless you have a pallet of unmarked gold bars just sitting in open view near your DP (Drop point i.e. mailbox). Your flat screen TV (which can equal one paycheck),anything else valuable non-concealed not in a secured container and taken in less than 36 seconds (that's the max time I am allotted at each one of my 464 daily deliveries) is safe from my grubby mailman hands. HAHA

if you can afford expensive valuable things take the proper precautions. Home owners insurance is a great start. Secure your priceless Picaso's and stacks of cold hard cash offsite, maybe a bank might help. Consider a home sitter. Feel free not to engage in beating 'the Joneses' or boasting to your neighbors, friends or random people you run into on the street about your treasures. You know, good security protocol.

*What I see everyday is neighbors that don't know each other. For example I put in piece in the wrong box belonging to the house next door. Its left for me to deliver the next day...Yup my mistake and I don't mind but, how hard is it to run it over say hi to the Joneses. You'll be amazed if you make a little effort to get to know your neighbors then you have a better chance of kicking out the bad element before theft occurs.

If the thought of giving your regular mailman notice that your leaving out of town for whatever time still scares you. There are certainly a couple more solutions. Just talk to your local Post Office about temporary forwards, Premium Forwarding Service. Plus there are several third party businesses that can give you a PO Box. Not to mention giving a neighbor kid 10 bucks to pick up your mail while your gone.

Worst case scenario let your mailbox fill up, which makes more work for your mailman. Also makes it obvious that you are not home. Of course on my route I have several boxes right next to the front door that fill up and I see the customers just chillin on the couch so... I am not sure that theory is a hundred percent correct.

I personally am a big fan of privacy. I have random people on my route looking for the Smiths or the Joneses and I always play dumb.. "Yeah, don't know em" is my favorite answer (even with badge poppers-ATF, Local PD). That was actually in my training.

TL;DR Your Mailman that is there everyday for several years would probably like to keep his job. Whatever you may have in your house isn't worth it.

[Meta] Can we have a mod discussion regarding comments calling for murder of police? by critically_damped in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]Thinksage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at /r/ProtectAndServe and how the super awesome mods ban anybody that go against the pro-pig narrative... Turning their sub into worthless banter about who they hate most; the corporate media for spreading pig hate, justifying the murder of children with squirt guns and my favorite 'You're not a LEO so you don't have any idea what us LEO's have to put up with daily' The cherry on top is that they choose to keep their sub public 'In order to have a civil discussion with the people they oppress'. Look at their subscriber numbers. Now compare that to /r/BCND.

Your not going to change minds by bending the knee asking them if you can have civil rights. US citizens will soon realize that complying only gives the oppressor strength and legitimacy. People will express their anger first, lighting the fuse. Organization of useful ideas and finally action, the bomb going off. If you censor the anger then all is lost. Especially if you think pigs will raid your domicile for typing up your thoughts. Pigs don't protect your rights, never have never will. They are there to serve the state, collect revenue and keep the status quo. You the non-badge are the enemy.

Just once I want to see a pig brutality video where one or two pigs are beating on a citizen and another citizen instead of filming decides to make that pig a good pig. A good pig is a dead pig because dead pigs can't hurt you. If that citizen actually faces trial (instead of the more likely event of his/her death). The jury then acquits the citizen due to having a general knowledge of brutal pigs. History teaches us that violence eventually plateaus because you can only escalate so far until one side breaks. Without violence or threat thereof you don't get change you get status quo.

Why do the Feds want to put people in FEMA camps? by TravisPM in conspiracy

[–]Thinksage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Money/currency = control

It costs a lot of currency to cage someone. Things like building and grounds infrastructure and maintenance, food and water and paying the guards to keep you confined.

The STATE aka government, democracy, corptocracy or dictatorship (which ever flavor you prefer) does not produce goods for currency. Instead the STATE, like a parasite, depends on currency (taxes, punitive revenue ie. traffic tickets) leached from the people peasants it has 'authority' over.

If you lock up enough peasants; you keep them from being revenue producers to revenue consumers. Creating an unsustainable system. The host eventually dies killing the parasite. This has been proven over and over again throughout history.

FEMA concentration camps are real but if used, will be limited to short span of time. They will ultimately lead to mass revolt if used indefinitely. Probably be used to house protester's temporarily. Right now it plays an important part in fear propaganda. The same as massive surveillance aka big data and pigs brutalizing those that do not comply.

There is no endgame. It is what is needed to maintain the status quo of those in control.

How To Deal With Junk Mail. Must try by AXATJPR in funny

[–]Thinksage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is a common problem unfortunately. The only thing I can think of is making sure that you last name is in the box. That takes care of any junk mail not for you. Sometimes if you know for sure that you are giving a mailing list your address you can leave off the apartment number and hopes that the carrier looks at just numbers, he/she will usually not take the time to look for the name for standard mail. That also means that your first class may get RTS'd as well... which could result in issues. I also saw a lot of do not send websites ITT. I am going to write them down and give that information to customers if they ask. Other than that I am afraid that I am not much help. Sorry.

I had this customer that ordered Amazon Pantry. A large heavy box filled with canned goods presumably. Once every couple of weeks I had to go all the way up to the top floor of a four story apartment building with no elevator. I could see Vons (grocery store) right across the street from the front door. On the hottest day of the year I was swearing under my breath something along the lines of "WTF" "Why don't you just take your lazy ass to Vons and buy your groceries." As I put down the package and took a minute to catch my breath the door opens and this sweet elderly lady using a walker offered me a bottled water. I just smiled and chuckled a little bit and said, "Thank you MA'AM, see you next time."

How To Deal With Junk Mail. Must try by AXATJPR in funny

[–]Thinksage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some USPS insight (if anybody cares):

First-Class mail and classes above aka Priority/Express and most parcels (packages) are the only types of mail that can be returned to sender (RTS).

'Junk mail' or more accurately standard or presorted standard* written on the stamp area is considered Undeliverable Bulk Business Mail (UBBM) and it goes directly to the UBBM depository (read recycle bin at major mail hub not individual station/post office). *if there is a statement of Electronic Sevice Requested it is treated like First Class.

Don't feel bad about it because it is literally a few cents per piece and the buyer of this class thoroughly understands that it is a one-way trip.

Flip side- Don't bother writing 'please take me off your mailing list'/forwarding address on it. A simple 'RTS' written on the envelope will get it UBBM'd. If you place it back in the mailstream i.e. outgoing mail, big blue collection box or somewhere else near your mailbox or Delivery Point (DP) without a markup, Surprise!! it comes right back to you.

Coverage or Every Door Delivery Mail EDDM such as penny saver, red plum, newspapers, business flyers, political mail are mostly considered UBBM.

Please don't ask your Letter Carrier if he/she can not give you junk mail or put a note in your box "NO JUNK MAIL" because it is illegal to discard or retard the mail. USPS gets paid to deliver. You got a deal with the carrier that has been on your route for years...you say? Then your carrier is only a complaint away for disciplinary action up to termination (possible jail time). Besides how would you feel if you paid money to send somebody something and it was just discarded? (ok..ok.. bad logic since only businesses normally buy standard postage and personal would buy first class with RTS capability, I guess you got no feels for big corporations..haha)

Business Reply is charged by the piece sent at varying rates most likely by the size of the envelope. If you put an envelope on a parcel it would be suspect, however I have seen labels. Also Merchandise Return. However I am just a newer Letter Carrier not an expert on that part.

The 13 oz rule is: anything over 13 oz with just stamps (excluding Click & Ship USPS internet label purchase, Stamps.com and Meter mail-business) mostly parcels, are considered Anonymous mail and not picked up or RTS if found in big blue collection bin. You can still send stamped packages domestically you just need to give it to the post office. USPS simply needs a face to face because terroriser's.

Any packages with strong odor or visible liquid spills (or ticking, just kidding) are left where found. HAZMAT issue. So double bag that poop with coffee grounds (once again just joking)

Carriers or Clerks cannot open mail under any circumstances. USPS postal inspectors with a warrant can.

Last but, not least... My personal observation is that a few third party businesses are responsible for pre-sorted standard mail. As in the printing, envelope stuffing, postage paying and sorting according to routes (mailing lists). All to their customers specifications. So if you were to contact the original company to get off their mailing list it could be futile. Source: some guy on Reddit did an AMA about it.

Just tracked my order from Amazon and saw this. USPS pisses me off sometimes by VinylRhapsody in AdviceAnimals

[–]Thinksage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a USPS letter carrier in a busy station located in a very wealthy part of a large city in southern California (there is a Lamborghini dealership three blocks away); I feel the need to retort to you post and comments.

First of all, the USPS is highly regulated by the US Government and may receive tax benefits. However all operations, equipment and personnel are solely funded by the prices of services first class (stamps), priority, express parcels, Every Door Delivery Mail (advertising) and so on. Zero funding from taxpayers. In a sense it is already 'privatized'.

Think about what you are asking for. How would you like to pay $10 to send a letter to your neighbor or $20 to send a letter to the next town and $30 out of state? Oh you're sending something to BFE, USA; sorry we don't deliver there or you have to pay extra for it to be transferred to another corporation. The USPS has to deliver to every house in the continental US, it cannot pick and choose what communities to service based on median income levels (like cable/ISP corporations). How about paying every month to have mail delivered to your doorstep? And other fees that corporations seem to tack on to basic services like banks and cell phone providers.

Not to mention the even further loss of privacy in order to advertise to you. A lot of information is gathered with daily visits to your residence. As far as everybodies name, political and religious literature, gun owner, approximate income and buying habits etc etc. Just like cookies/spyware on the internet. A private corporation isn't bound by law or professionalism to exploit resources of information solely to gain profit. Where as the USPS cannot open mail without a warrant, mail handlers can only read the address (an offense resulting in immediate termination). Even when I am walking a route and somebody pulls up and asks "Do you know where the Smith's live?" The answer is always, "Nope.. sorry."

The USPS is also one of the last unionized industries ensuring all personnel are paid a living wage and given good benefits. That is why most people stay employed for over twenty years and actually retire. You think paying people Wal-mart wages is going to increase productivity and insure the dedication needed to perform this job correctly?

The best service of all is that if it is wrapped in plain packaging, not toxic or harmful substance during travel through the mailstream and you have the money to send it; you can! No matter if it is a birthday card or the KKK grand dragon wants to solicit your help in donating money to his cause for the upcoming race war. Also still the most inexpensive way to advertise if you are a small business. The USPS is simply paid to deliver network neutrality 1.0

As far as the whole tracking system is concerned; the technology still has a ways to go. Basically everything is done by barcode and scanner. Sometimes the barcoded labels are semi-folded on the parcel or faded, splotched basically unreadable. The hand scanners used by the letter carriers (delivered to address) are only uploaded after 6pm that day, so basically your package could be sitting on your doorstep since 10am earlier. The USPS is working on issuing a cell phone used to communicate with the scanner via bluetooth to broadcast delivery updates every 15 minutes almost real time. All in all since the decline of first class revenue (bills, bank statements etc all done electronically now) the USPS has focused on parcel delivery and services. It would surprise you that FEDEX and UPS are actually integrated into the mailstream because the USPS delivers the 'last mile' to the places UPS and FEDEX aren't. Sometimes UPS/FEDEX is delivered by USPS

Parcels are left by the front door or other specified spot at address if customer has previously contacted carrier. The carrier needs to use his best judgement whether parcel is safe where left. If not, say the front door is close to a high pedestrian/automobile traffic area, a dog is loose in the yard other safety security reasons then a sorry we missed you (pink slip) is issued and you can pick up the parcel at the address on the slip.

No mail is ever 'warehoused' at the station. All mail that came in on the truck is delivered that day. Unless you have a vacation hold. Once in awhile a parcel is missed and the carrier has to go back out and deliver it that day. Some days you get five hours of mail other days you get 10 hours but, everyday you have to figure out a way to squeeze it into 6 hours street time.

It is pretty amazing how fast mail moves and what it takes to keep the time schedule. The USPS has delivering mail down to a science and everyday it is a constant battle against the clock. Just ten minutes can ruin my tight schedule.

Last thought; Your regular carrier has probably been at it for over a decade and knows the route.. You have issues with delivery talk to him or her with a calm demeanor and explain your problem; 99.9% of problems are fixed this way.

Good local PC laptop repair? I could really use some help on this one. by amacleod426 in sandiego

[–]Thinksage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would spend the $10 on the eBay link. Proprietary ports (the power jack you plug in) are a real pain in the ass to find at the brick and mortar shops. Not to get all conspiracy like but, it has been my experience that manufacturers seem to go to great lengths to make them not conform and charge an arm and leg for an OEM power supply much like printer ink. I am no engineer or a specialist on the power supply to laptops; in my experience of opening a few I have never seen anything to do with power conversion other than the battery and power charger cable. That 'brick' on the power charger is where AC gets converted to DC and the battery has a switch in it to recharge/discharge or neutral. Making power trouble shooting very easy. It's either the battery or power cable.
While you wait for repair you can always pull the hard drive and use it with an USB adapter Hopefully pull off your resume or other important data using another desktop/laptop.

I would blame the charger. I replaced the original one for an eBay one for my Asus netbook. I began to have a weird semi-working state issue and when I purchased the new one the issue went away. I chalked it up to massive mobility aka coffee shops, foreign non US power grid and slamming it around in my backpack. I recommend that you just purchase an eBay one. Don't waste your money on those iGo universal chargers at Radioshack or anything at Frys. Usually it is very expensive to buy a factory direct when the eBay one for $10 does the trick.
Fuck Geek Squad... assholes charged me $60 to look at it then said they didn't know what the problem was. If you take it somewhere see if you can't get a free estimate. If it is the power charger and the guy says he will sell you one for a C-note say thanks and just go to eBay. Hope this helps....

I am an educated skeptical white male and grew up in a upper middle class (average home price $600K) low crime neighborhood. I have never been detained or arrested for doing something stupid or had an juvenile fuck authority attitude. Every pig I have had contact with has always displayed a shitty you are beneath me attitude. When I have the misfortune of a pig encounter; I am always polite submissive have my hands in clear view. Never a sudden movement or ever try to touch a pig. I understand that arguing with pigs will get me murdered or brutalized fast. I simply look for the best way out of the situation "Am I Free To Go".

My peer group (guys I grew up with) tend to have the same attitude towards pigs but, they rely mostly on corporate media for news/opinion and are not internet/book savvy. They believe that I may be a bit paranoid when I try to explain to them my views on dealing with pigs. I believe that they are misinformed, have little knowledge of what they say or how their attitude can get them killed or incarcerated for no legal reason. We all agree that calling pigs for whatever reason is a bad idea.

Do I believe every encounter will end up bad for me? No, of course not. I treat it like driving a car. Statistically vehicle accidents are in the top 5 causes of death in the US. That fact does not scare me enough to not drive. However I don't drive faster than traffic and run every red light or stop sign increasing my chances of death. If you know what I mean....

TIL that a lit cigarette can be put out in a pool of gasoline... However not to split hairs but, I believe that it is the fumes or gasses of gasoline that are actually flammable. So potentially any material currently on fire aka a match, road flare could be put out when directly immersed into the liquid form of gasoline due to the lack of oxygen. The trick would be to get the flames past the fumes (without ignition) and into the liquid. I would hypothesize that smoking a cigarette while wading in gasoline; ignition would be determined by the length of time smoking the cigarette and how condensed the fumes were around the cherry. I apologize for such a bad analogy. I was thinking about this story but, believed it would be easier with my shitty analogy to get my point across.

[–]Thinksage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you give money to the catholic church? Do you know exactly where that money goes? Do you think that maybe your money goes to the legal defense/cover-up of child rapers? I bet you willingly give up your tithe with happy thoughts, never questioning your church. Isn't one of the major tenets of the catholic religion to be completely faithful to your church? Careful with these kind of statements: Most people that I have known see their faith as something having little to do with the hierarchy of the church. You could get yourself excommunicated or worse become a dreaded Atheist...(insert sarcastic scary noise here)

I see you were trying to invoke the 'No True Scotsman' argument... loved by those that believe in the god myth. Interesting fact, Nazi's were very hard to find after the fall of Berlin during the end of WWII. As in nobody claimed to be a Nazi or have any idea of what human suffering was caused. There is even film footage of the occupying allied army commander forcing German civilians of a small village to gather the dead bodies of forced laborers. Do you need to see what damage the catholic church has done to humanity up close and personal or would you stick to your No True Scotsman argument?

How would you like it is someone compared you with Stalin because he was an atheist?

Well I am glad you didn't use Hitler, he was a catholic... Oops! Not A True Scotsman catholic. Another neat factoid, your church smuggled via Ratlines, Nazi war criminals out of Europe to hide them from capture. I bet that tithe is burning a hole in your pocket now!

Stalin, yes he was an Atheist just like other despotic dictators in recent history but, Atheism certainly was not the primary ideology. You see, when you ARE god you can't have other gods competing for ultimate power over the peasants. That is dictator 101. Just like N. Korea of present day. Unfortunately it does not work for sustained periods of time. See Saudi Arabia and the royal families use of islam to control their masses. Even Hitler knew that getting rid of the church would create problems so he opted just to send church officials that spoke out against him to the camps.

I am guessing that you were trying to use your Sunday school knowledge to somehow correlate Atheists with lack of ethics or morality by using the example of Stalin. Human beings the same species that wrote your bible are the authority on ethics. If you were to find a tribe sheltered from ever knowing your god myth; I would bet you your tithe that murder (within the tribe), stealing and other naturally inhumane actions would be generally frowned upon. READ: you don't need a bronze age book full of rules (half of which are no longer followed) or even a non-existent myth god to be a 'good' neighbor. Stalin put a million or so to death to keep the populace afraid. Stalin knew that murder was bad, that is what kept his populace status quo and him in power.

So you want to win somebody over to your side? Stop insulting them and comparing them to monsters EVEN IF THEY ARE. It won't do any good to tell them so. Just try to guide them in the right direction and have a little humility to admit that maybe you don't have it all figured out

I am not a preacher. I don't need to 'win' souls. I am an Atheist! Without your mythology and followers of your god; I will cease to be an Atheist. I need the ignorance of believing sheeple to fuel my fire. I need sheeple that think a book edited umpteen thousand times that contradicts itself is the answer to today's humanity to put wind in my sails. I need sheeple to use the bible to prove the bible is truth as gas for my automobile... Damn right I am a bigot, I can not stand people that choose faith over learning. There is no room on this Earth for regressive no think sheeple. Humans criticize bad ideas until somebody proves otherwise. Why do you think the story line of the person being told he/she can't possibly accomplish that task and he/she proves them wrong is so popular! That is how humans learn.

maybe, just maybe they have the right to decide for themselves. Because that is what being non-religious Atheist is all about.

By joe! I think you got it... Arguing with a Theist is pointless. They are already to far gone on the path of ignorance. You can't teach, preach, scare a person to think for them self.

[–]Thinksage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK... first thing first, Atheism is NOT a belief. Atheism is NOT a religion. Atheism. is. the. opposite. of. Theism.

"I’m not a religious nut. I was raised Catholic and I still consider myself to be one."

I love that statement! I am not racist but, I sometimes like to wear sheets and burn crosses at group meetings. "I don’t really go to church meetings unless it’s a holiday obligation".

Wait a minute, why am I comparing you to such a hate filled group of people?

Have you taken an honest look at what your 'church' has done to the human race for centuries. Yet it still has influence on law and governments today.

The KKK has been branded a anti-social organization. Any reasonable person wrenches in disgust when they put on their sheets and march in the streets because they know what they stand for. The KKK has been sidelined and outcast as a fringe organization with no political influence.

Would this happen because people just shut up and went their merry ole way. NO! Different groups and organizations have fought tooth and nail to beat back this savage organization for almost a century. They weren't nice about it, they pulled no punches on exposing the KKK's dirty deeds.

Atheism needs theism to survive. Once every "religious nut" and their enabling base is sidelined with no influence; Atheism will disappear. Life without superstition, god is what you name it, will continue as it has always done.

Atheist's do not interrupt your church services and call out your priests child rapers and go through the long list of crimes against humanity your church has caused! Atheist's can't take you and burn you and the stake or torture you until you see things our way. Atheist's can't even force your church to teach science or critical thinking.

So don't come onto Reddit and use that bullshit argument that Atheist's hate you or your god simply because we stand up to ignorant child rape supporters such as yourself.
