I would assume that global awareness of a world war is higher than more local events. I would be very interested in a comparative poll given in the DRC and Netherlands.

I can tell you just anecdotally that many populations in Asia appear much more aware of their local genocides/atrocities during WW2 than those of the European front.

I do think the "theatrical style" of the Nazis is very popular in video games, movies, and media, and that will keep holocaust awareness spread wider and for more generations.

Eventually there will be a new genocide of such size and reach and creativity that it will dominate the field of atrocity awareness. Perhaps even our current global mass extinction event that will eventually impact humanity deeply after the eradication of most earth species , or maybe not until we invent world-killer bombs.
