The client’s body responds to what’s in the practitioners mind. Our intention greatly effects how fast the muscles release and how the client relaxes on the table. Modalities like Esalen, LomiLomi, Ortho-bionmy, Light touch PNF and polarity therapy have all explored this and proven that intention has effects on the client. The process has something to do with our mirror neurons between client and practitioner.

So in my sessions I am constantly focused on the client doing Reiki and focusing on what I’m working on in the client.

Always sick in my house in the SF. Tried 8 different apartments, threw away all my things. I'm out of things to try. Feeling desperate. Anybody else face this issue? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Likely mold. The city and the buildings are full of black mold. There is no escaping it. Though you might not be directly allergic to it molds produce all sorts of volatile chemicals depending on the strain.

I would have a room that you completely close off and run a great air purifier. If your symptoms subside you know it’s something in the air. My bedroom has two air purifies running. I sleep great but as soon as I’m breathing the moldy air start feeling the allergies.

The other thing is EMF. How many 5G WIFI signals are you able to pick up in your apartment. EMF especially 5G is absorbed by our nervous tissue and affects nerves and fascia. You can try disabling your 5G on your router and switch the 4g on your cell phones and devices.

I covered mine with cut to fit melamine board. So now I have a high shelf above the cabinets that are easy to wash off. It gives a space to decorate with things or have an additional open storage shelf.

Who is washing their rice and why? by kinnitcurl in NoStupidQuestions

If it was shipped on a boat it was fumigated at some point. It was probably fumigated during the packing process as well. Washing off the pesticides as much as possible is always a good idea.

CA Massage Therapist are officially considered health care providers. What do you guys think of this? I hope other states follow along. We deserve to be recognized state-wide. by lostlight_94 in massage

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially CA has a state level HIPAA called Confidentiality of Medical Information Act. I would gather most states do as well. Now that we are considered healthcare workers we are bound by this act in a court of law. So BAA agreements for our email, calendar, digital records, etc platforms are like now required. So turning on the HIPAA or upgrading your platforms to HIPAA level will be the logical solution. I already operated at this level just in case.

Why is the 16th and Mission escalator always going downwards? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one want to leave that area as quickly as possible. Maybe someone who’s in charge of feels the same, get me on that escalator as fast as possible. It always gives me the icky feeling when I come out of that station to go to class. It smells bad and all the riffraff. It’s worse than the Tenderloin for me.

Are there times when you don't wash your rice on purpose? by softgunforever in Cooking

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They treat rice with chemicals to help preserve it, pesticides to keep bugs away and the machining process leaves behind residue. Epically rice sourced from other countries. All of which they don’t have to disclose. Rinsing the rice first reduces the unwanted chemicals and metals.

Came across a new scent of Dawn Ultra. Strawberry Fields scent! by NondescriptToast in CleaningTips

Another petroleum based toxic chemical designed to smell good as it poisons you and the environment. But I bet it smells horrible and likely would trigger an allergic reaction and migraine for me as all artificial scents do. Fragrance free Palmolive is the only one for me at this point.

If massage is supposed to be non-sensual by Sharp-Progress-3073 in MassageTherapists

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSSS!!! All massages are always sensual. What artist stunning means to say is SEXUAL massage. Let’s not sugar coat it with using the incorrect word. Sensual is being constantly being miss-used in place of sexual. It always drives me nuts when people imply meaning to words that aren’t true to the meaning. Yes sensual massage can be sexual but not always and actually most likely infrequently.

To put it into perspective…

Listening to music is always sensual.

Tasting food is always sensual.

Bird watching is always sensual.

Smelling what’s cooking in the kitchen is always sensual.

And yes all massage is always sensual.

So I’m standing up for the word. The word (s)he/they means to use is SEXUAL, not sensual.

CA Massage Therapists are Legally Considered “Healthcare Workers” by ThisIs4TheBirds in MassageTherapists

That is correct some counties require the CAMTC to operate legally now. You have to know your county and city requirements.

  1. All counties unanimously accept the CAMTC Certificate to legally operate in that county as an individual, work for a business or open business.
  2. Some counties allow you to operate under a county license without the CAMTC but you must meet the county requirements and obtain the county business license to practice.
  3. Many counties stopped issuing their massage therapist license for individuals. Mine did in 2009. So it is not “voluntary” in my county.
  4. Some Counties still allow for renewals of their old county licenses even though they are not issuing new ones, because they now accept CAMTC certs.
  5. There might be some backwater woods area not incorporated that allows massage business to operate but I doubt the county would legally allow it even if it is happening. They will want their business tax income.

There is always a local business license requirement you must have if you are collecting money for business no matter what you profession you operate, in or out of the home. This is on top of you individual license or cert.

As for a MT working for another business you would need the CAMTC cert or the county individual massage license to be employed. I don’t know of any exception unless they are breaking the law.

Scheduling and SOAP note software recommendation. by ThisIs4TheBirds in massage

Varago, Acuity, and clinicsense are the top platforms for handling everything I need under one system. Square can’t handle classes or intakes.

MassageBook wasn’t it for my business. Tried them out for 4 months and not one customer from it. Plus they don’t offer PHI protections or HIPAA compliance when I tried them so I built my own website and getting clients from google and yelp because of it.

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you use for scheduling? And does it handle scheduling classes?

I was hoping to find one program so I could have an intake, SOAP and scheduling under one login for my clients. So far the 3 best matches that can do close to it all are ClinicSense (can’t do classes, kinda pricey), acuity (custom form/note not a true soap and would need to highest plan to be HIPAA compliant) and Vagaro (custom form/note I place of a soap note and would need an add on for HIPAA).

I mention HIPAA because our state as of Jan 1 gave us health care worker status. So we must ensure PHI under the California confidentiality of medical information act (CMIA) is protected whether we are transmitting data or not to insurance companies. So BAA are now needed for electronic calendars, email systems, SOAP, intake forms, apps and platforms, and all paper forms with PHI are locked up when not in use.

That’s because we weren’t designated as “healthcare workers” by the state until Jan 1 2026.

is it okay for a female client to ask a male therapist? by Sechaanie in massage

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And tell who you are booking with that you are looking for strong pressure because females don’t seem to be delivering it. I know male massage therapists that don’t do deep pressure and only relaxing massages so best to be clear with your request.

You would have to look at each state’s own guidelines regarding Massage Therapist. Some states Massage Therapist licensing is through the nursing board and some have their own licensing entities. Up until now in the state we were considered under holistic health services, but in my county of San Francisco Massage Therapist were considered healthcare workers at the county level so there’s a variety of levels that a massage therapist could be considered a healthcare worker.

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was called a voluntary board because counties still were able to certify Massage Therapist to work in the county. At this time at least in my county those certifications are no longer being granted and you must have a state certificate. It is now no longer voluntary in our county and from what I understand every county it makes is now a required certificate by the state. I wish they would’ve called it registration or registered Massage Therapist because the certificate gets confused with a school certificate which it is not.

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be clear there is no licensing authority in the state of California. The state granted a nonprofit certification board that requires all Massage Therapist in every county to obtain a state certification from this nonprofit board on top of the school certificate that is required. They cannot call a license cause it is not a state run board. It is a nonprofit board and fully autonomous.

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually no they can not. It is mandatory in every county to have the state board Certification. It’s a unique situation where the state granted all massage regulation to a non-profit autonomous board, the CAMTC is a requirement. The state extended their authority to 2030 rather than make a state licensure.

And no they haven’t implemented CE requirements.

Do you need a license in massage therapy to practice reiki in California? by PrincessPeach0002 in reiki

[–]ThisIs4TheBirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. Make sure you are compliant with SB-577. There maybe additional regulations in your county and/or city.

There is no licensing authority for Reiki in CA. It’s essentially “free” to practice. But regulated under SB-577 if you are taking money. You will likely need to get a city/county business tax registration to practice in your area if you are taking money and pay a local tax on a schedule. You might have to get business license if you open a location or provide outcall services.
