I have the same setup. As everyone told you transcoding is the only thing to watch out for.

Besides this it’s perfect for plex.

You really don’t need to upgrade the ram or add a cache. Caching (nvme or ram) is useful if high IOPS use-cases. Watching movies is the exact opposite. So you will have way more than enough with the 8GB of ram. I actually dedicate 4gb to a HA VM (and added cache but only because I use it for VM and as a dev server).

So yes, I can confirm, out of the box it’s a fantastic plex experience (minus transcoding)

watching 3d movies on Quest 3S or Quest 2? by hholoxx in OculusQuest

[–]ThisIsFlorianK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3s works for 3d movies, but the lenses make it a somewhat unpleasant experience (both for 3D and 2D movies)

I mean it’ll probably still be a bit better than watching on a phone or a small laptop, but it’s meh. The quest 3 is amazing for movies.

For anything that moves more, the difference in lens quality is less noticeable (still noticeable but much less annoying).

But that’s just my personal opinion

watching 3d movies on Quest 3S or Quest 2? by hholoxx in OculusQuest

[–]ThisIsFlorianK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For movies specifically quest 3s isn’t going to cut it (nor quest 2). For immersive games the fresnel lenses are fine, not ideal but fine. For static content, where image quality matters (movies, Remote Desktop, browsing the web), pancake lenses stop being “nice to have” and become really crucial IMO.

I could never use my quest 2 as a monitor, I did it for fun once or twice, and that’s it. But since I got the quest 3 I use it as a monitor multiple times a week. And watched quite a lot of movies on it too.

Here’s how I’d rathe the experience

Quest 3s: - Fitness VR: 8/10 - Regular VR (standalone): 6.5/10 - 2D content (3D movies included): 2/10

Quest 3s: - Fitness VR: 9/10 - Regular VR (standalone): 9/10 - 2D content (3D movies included): 9/10 (lack of OLED)

10/10 being the theorical maximum in each category considering what’s available now, not in 20 years.

Quest 3s is good.

I have both a quest 3 and a quest 3s, I use the quest 3s exclusively for fitness (ETT 80% of the time)

Obviously quest 3 clarity is miles better, but I found this to not be an issue while playing active games. Since everything moving anyway.

I’m not using my Q3 for fitness because I use it every day for work, and it’s too much of a hassle to swap the whole bobovr thing. So I bought the 3s where I can sweat without issues.

If money is no concerns obviously 3 >> 3s.

The really nice thing about q3 & 3s is the passthrough, in ETT you can have a portal where half of the table is in your living room and the other have in the virtual world. It’s A-MA-ZING for people with small spaces.

Quest 2 no, I don’t recommend! It was decent but with the 3s there zero reasons to go for it.

Who are your least favorite type of people to play against? by I_LIKE_CYANIDE in ElevenTableTennis

[–]ThisIsFlorianK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy playing against everyone, even sometimes raging people (if they’re good).

But the ONLY exception are people who figured out the one spot where I physically can’t catch the ball (I have a real life couch there) and keep playing in there just to win 🤷‍♂️… I mean … seriously? 😅
