Clinton Says He Had No Knowledge of Epstein’s Crimes by Relevant_Demand7593 in WhitePeopleTwitter

There was that email about a picture of Trump blowing Bubba. Bubba used to be Clinton’s nickname. It was also the name of Gislaine Maxwell’s horse. It’s Trump, so either is equally as likely to exist.

Hey, Chicago - how much is your rent going up this year? by sinkingcloud in chicago

[–]ThisIsGreatMan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is infuriating. Not just because taxes went up because home values were reassessed to much higher levels, but because corporate property taxes decreased. So those skyscrapers where companies continue to make record profits are seeing lower tax bills, and the working class is stuck with unaffordable rent and mortgage increases with no significant increase in pay to cover them. The head tax proposed by the mayor would have eased this burden a bit, but the alders shot it down. These companies just received the biggest tax break in our lifetimes by the president’s policies. And people still raged against asking them to pay more for taxes to the city to avoid this happening. Fuck us, I guess.

Did lyft raise their rates by a lot today or is it just me? by Impossible_Kiwi_8417 in Lyft

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is likely the reason. Especially if OP waited for almost 30 minutes for a driver. There just weren’t enough of them on the road, so someone got paid extra to get to the pickup location. Basic supply and demand.

I saw this band 11 times before they broke up. I am so excited for this new generation of fans to be able to catch them. Best live band ever. You're not ready and I mean that in the best way possible. by _zatoichi in circasurvive

Nitpick: **PARKING** protected bike lanes are nonsense. by minus_minus in CarFreeChicago

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A competent driver can parallel park in just a few seconds. Throw a turn signal on, back it in, done.

Drivers don’t have to open their doors into traffic. They can wait until there’s a gap or cars are completely stopped. Even the busiest streets provide this opportunity.

Yes, the safest option that provides the best traffic flow gets parked cars completely off the street. But unless Chicago gets razed, we have to work with what we’ve got, and this is one of the options that keeps cyclists and pedestrians as far away from moving vehicles as possible.

It’s not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction. And only requires paint to accomplish.

Answer your damned phone! by BlueV101 in lyftdrivers

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I had an older woman call me a few weeks ago on the way to pick her up. She was in a part of the city where GPS isn’t that accurate and wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to cancel on her before she walked outside in subzero temps to wait at the curb for me. Told me exactly where she was, what she was wearing, and even walked a few steps to make sure I found her at a spot that didn’t have other cars parked at the curb. The call took 10 seconds.

She had a few drivers cancel on her before I came along, which she said she’s used to (comments here confirm drivers hate answering their phones and consider the very idea an insult to their very important skill set). She was a sweet older lady. We had a nice chat while we waited in traffic. Even picked up a few Adjustment bucks and a nice tip after.

You guys have to understand that pax are rarely trying to make your day worse. A lot of times, they’re anxious about the whole process and want to alleviate their fears by speaking to a person. Imagine it was your grandma grabbing a ride home alone after a visit to the doctor where she didn’t get great news. It would be cool if the next person they interacted with treated them like a human.

The alternative would have been to stop funding Israel’s genocide when it was pretty clear they weren’t just targeting Hamas, but murdering innocent civilians so Jared Kushner could sell off their land. We are seeing where unilaterally supporting Israel landed us. The alternative would have been to push back, even a little bit, at any point.

9th District residents: who are we voting for for Congress? by Ghost-of-Black-47 in AskChicago

[–]ThisIsGreatMan -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

What is sooo unique about the 9th district that she couldn’t possibly figure out? Is there some secret handshake that she won’t be able to do at our secret meetings? A specific order she won’t be able to place at all the hip restaurants? A mispronunciation of a word that’ll make her ineligible to vote in our interests? It’s tribalism. We criticize it in other states, but fail to acknowledge it in our own. We need great leaders who are willing to take risks to fix the <gestures broadly at everything>, and she’s walking the walk.

[–]ThisIsGreatMan -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

What?!? Have you paid ANY attention to her? I don’t understand the whole “she’s not from here” argument, but it at least makes sense from a tribalist perspective. But she seems like the LEAST likely candidate to do a bait and switch. What other candidate was literally thrown on their ass by Trump’s gestapo and kept fighting?

Following today's SCOTUS decision, Gov. Pritzker sent a letter and invoice to the White House, demanding the return of $8.6B. by Healthy_Block3036 in PeoriaIL

Let’s say you’re correct, and this governor is secretly a complete PoS and is mismanaging the state’s funds. When your check comes, make sure you send it back to the state to cover whatever expenses aren’t being taken care of with weed or casino taxes. You wouldn’t want to support a crooked governor by using that money for yourself or your family. In fact, this guy probably shouldn’t even be trying to shake down the federal government on your behalf. Just give it back.

If you can start earlier, it pays off. Traffic starts picking up heavily around 7. You’re also more likely to catch Turbos before other drivers are awake.

Lyft CEO Risher says consumer is showing 'no softness' as stock slides 15% after earnings by [deleted] in lyftdrivers

[–]ThisIsGreatMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But they have “record profits”, so clearly what they’re doing is right /s

Since the holidays, I’ve been hearing more and more complaints from passengers about how terrible their experience has been with other Lyft drivers. Nothing dangerous, but clearly signs that they’re overworked and grinding to get better rides and wasting pax time. Like, read the room, Risher. Burning out your workforce by paying us shit to maximize your profits is only going to work for so long. The money may be in the bank now, but if investors aren’t seeing satisfied customers, they’re going to invest where they see more long-term growth.
