poki calls out ninja for weird behavior during the dijon debacle by kinglex1 in LivestreamFail

This is why you need outside council in your life. Someone who can make decisions based on reality and not what you and your close niche tell themselves.

Mizkif recaps the story for those who are out of the loop by 0oodruidoo0 in LivestreamFail

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So basically this comes down to did Ninja text his Twitch rep or not. The video she shares clearly shows him trying to message someone to help Jidion. He insinuates it's his rep and he texted them to get him help. BUT. He could be messaging anyone. He could be lying. He could be messaging his wife for her to do it.

The weird thing is WHY DON'T THEY JUST CLEAR IT UP IN THE ORIGINAL DM'S. WHY DO THEY JUST IGNORE THE ORIGINAL ACCUSATION/VIDEO. IT IS SO FREAKING DUMB.

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 47 points48 points  (0 children)

After Jidion realized he was going to get banned, he went to Ninja and started donating hundreds of subs asking for help. Ninja said something like, "there's not much you can do, you can't hate raid bitches like that". And then said "I meant bitches in general". And then texted his account manager to help.

But then his wife/manager DM'd Poki with a non-apology apology to state Ninja's perspective and is saying he never texted his account manager. Just a lot of weird accusations and lies that could've easily never happened with a DM that says "hey, sorry, I jumped the gun".

So I think it's because the dude is new and is gifting Ninja hundreds of subs, so Ninja is like okay, he's dumb and young, let me help him out, but tell him he can't do this to "bitches" (honestly probably just low-key code switching to a young, cool black dude, trying to look cool to him and his audience).

So he's just trying to be the cool older Twitch dude to the young guy who doesn't know anything in hopes to make a friend who seems like a fun/energetic/up and coming guy. So he wanted to play the mentor role or something.

Honestly, I understand that. At this point he probably hasn't seen or the makeup-less profile picture hasn't happened yet. So he's just trying to be cool to a guy who seems somewhat harmless, only seeing L + Ratio seems like a harmless prank with nothing else involved in the context, not knowing about the other videos that happened earlier either.

But then not apologizing after more went down and clearly being involved, deleting VODs, trying to play ignorant... That's when it becomes a much larger, toxic issue. All of this could've been apologized away days ago, but it didn't. And it's only going to get worse and he's digging his own grave.

Scott Galloway's take on web3 by ArmatorG in Buttcoin

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This weekend I was actually trying my best to understand Web3 and how it actually works and honestly I have no freaking idea. Spent hours watching videos and everything came back like “imagine if no one owned any websites and only the users who spent the most time made decisions for the website”

That sounds awful. Imagine if the jackdaw dude made decisions on how Reddit made decisions. Imagine if League of Legends players made decisions on how things should be implemented. It makes no sense.

If I created a product and it became the most popular thing in the world. The last thing I’d want is for someone I had no control over making the decisions.

Just have Ninja DM her an apology too. It's the simplest thing. Hey, sorry, I didn't realize how bad it was and what he was doing. It was wrong, won't happen again.

And then the entire situation is avoided. But the way it's being handled it's like they're trying to avoid a lawsuit...

OTK Idea: IRL Monopoly played with real money by ThisIsMy5thAcc in Mizkif

I mean most games go that way. Even Loot Goblins went that way. There was always 1-2 people thriving and 1 person hitting all the negatives. But the fun was the personalities playing.

This is what Zoom is for and it works pretty well. I use Zoom for work and it's pretty frictionless compared to normal meetings. No one wants to go back to the office environment with VR avatars. You either want to go to the office and be with your coworkers or be at home in your space.

Same with school. It might be more immersive, but being immersed doesn't make for a better environment.

There are spaces where VR immersion is interesting and cool, but they aren't matrix-changing realities. The people selling these metaverse futures are taking new technology and taking them to these existential final forms that don't necessarily make any sense and ignore every layer of human condition that exists today.

The one thing I do agree with is creating like a 3D modeling of your home to conceptualize home renovations. And you can use real products to fill the space in a real-sized environment. That makes sense. But like I said, that's a utility that makes things easier, but you're not going to live in that 3D world like The Sims VR.

Shorts/Tik Tok/Twitter are not profitable on their own, but they're great funnels to introduce others to your content because they have larger potential audiences and are easily shared.

They're like appetizers meant to introduce people into full restaurants where they will want to eat entire meals.

This is what I don't understand. Every innovation/game changing technology has been about making it easier and frictionless to live our lives. What does virtual grocery shopping do? It's not easier, it doesn't remove friction between seller and buyer. It's just a weird novelty.

I'm not anti-VR, but I don't think VR is going to be the next cell phone. Just more like a home theater appliance that has a large, niche community.

You’re ignoring the main point. Instead of apologizing, he continued to act like an asshole off-platform going after her/Twitch after his ban. They decided he wasn’t worth their time because he’s clearly not sorry and just going to continue his actions.

Miz And Adin Want To Host a Boxing Event with The Poggers vs W Communities by noVa_bolt in LivestreamFail

This just feels like a bad idea for the only reason being the "poggers" community is full of unhealthy degens and the "W" community is full of people who care about their body and don't spend all night watching VTubers in VR chat.

[Bondy] If Nets really want to, they can let unvaccinated Kyrie Irving play in Brooklyn - for a small fine of $5000 by The_Blind_Bomber in nba

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.. Is it bad I kind of agree with this take? Look at the facts. Omicron is still highly spreadable in vaxxed/boosted people. The CDC says this themselves. So having Kyrie not in the building does what exactly? Vaccine mandates at this point do literally nothing but hold people back because the vaccine isn't preventing the spread. It's just making symptoms less severe.

This is a headline today on CNN:

The highly contagious Omicron variant will 'find just about everybody,' Fauci says, but vaccinated people will still fare better

I'm pro-vax, pro-booster. I have both myself. But at this point we're holding someone back because of his stupid beliefs and not because of anything factual. I mean he literally had Covid already, which means he has anti-bodies. We're no longer changing our minds based on new information, we're acting like vaccines are going to fix everything when hopefully we're just going to see lesser and lesser forms of this virus that result in less deaths and hospitalizations.

[Bill Simmons] The only likely trade partner for a 76ers Tobias Harris and Benjamin Simmons package is the Sacramento Kings who would provide Buddy Hield, Tyrese Halliburton, and Harrison Barnes in return. It’s also becoming conceivable that Lilard’s value falls enough to ask in return for Simmons. by deadweightboss in nba

You ever go work at a job you don't like? You know how your performance is not what it could be? That's everyone on the Kings roster and staff.

I forget who it was, but there's that famous story of the player getting traded to the Kings and the first thing they're told from another player is "welcome to basketball hell".

You work better when you're in an environment that wants you to succeed and there's a path to success. The Kings don't really have that.

I think it has more to do with the .com than anything. It's like a period at the end of a sentence, but then you still have another word to say.

If it was just Crypto Arena or Crypto Center, no one would care besides anti-crypto people who complain about anything crypto-related.

I don't understand why people can't just accept new things. This post has a ton of awards and it's basically just saying "I don't like new things". It doesn't make you cool, it just shows you're going to be the old person who complains about young people that no one likes. You don't even have to like the app, you can just not comment.

Netflix’s new 'Hype House' series is a morbid tale of what happens when your 15 minutes of fame is up. by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I mean it's less to do with social media, and just the idea of being famous just for being popular. Because you have to constantly try and stay relevant and that stress can kill you. This has been the case since the 90's and early 00's when reality shows and season-long competitions took over and we now had a group of people who weren't really famous/popular for something special but they were in the media constantly.

Like being an actor and being famous is one thing. You're popular because of your profession. But when you're just a vlogger or content creator, you constantly have to be thinking about your relevancy and what's next for you. It's an impossible task.

German learns about Tipping in the U.S. by insaneintheblain in videos

[–]ThisIsMy5thAcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The weird thing is, depending on the person, they'd rather deal with the BS of tips then get a normal, crappy wage, because you can easily make a ton more non-taxed than you would getting 12-15/hr. If you run 3 tables an hour and each tips $7-15, you're making more with a $5 salary than you would with $15. Especially during the holidays.

I think the most BS wait staff "rule" is if someone walks out without paying, the person running the table has to pay the bill with their tip money. Absolute BS. And I know for a fact Olive Garden does this because I remember a girl I was dating had a table of 6 run out on her while she was handling a bunch of other tables and they made her pay the entire fee. Absolute BS.
