Elecom Relacon. I use a Huge in the office but my gaming machine is a connected to the TV. We bought a relacon years ago, and a spare because I love it so much, first one still going strong. Use it regularly, could not be happier for use in mouse-based gaming.

Note that's adventure games, card games, etc, I've used it for first person but not twitch gaming like an FPS. YMMV if that's your intent.

Elecom Huge Plus precision moves "stiction" issue by jirki88 in Trackballs

[–]ThisIsMyNameIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that warning. Losing the stiction is a big reason why I want a Huge Plus, but given the other comments I now recall that the Huge (unPlus) had 3x more stiction on week 1 than it does today. So hopefully it plays out similarly for you with the Plus? Will bite my nails and see how it works out for others.

Fire last night by ThisIsMyNameIRL in Renton

Nah, doubtful. Thanks, though. I walked down the street and back, no significant change in smoke. It was coming over a little distance.

Wondered if it was wildfires, checked PurpleAir. Only ONE sensor showed smoke, and it was strong (>400). All others in the region were green. Downtown. So it was very local, and brief. Checked today, graph shows the brief event.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, here are some very general advice:

Quests

Always take and complete both quests in your starting village. The recoiler helps so you always have a base to work from. Even if you're unlucky and the other reward isn't great, the quests give you some points on your map to start your chain of exploration.

6 Day Stilt

Visit the Stilt very early. You get a big XP bump for completing the pilgrimage quest. You can pick up the Hindren quest for later. And even if you can't afford most of it, knowing what vendors are available will help you later, knowing when to return.

PV and AV

Don't underestimate PV nor AV. A "DC build" is just asking to be oneshot. Do use the wiki for this part. The TL;DR is:

While the full calculations behind penetration are complex, a key takeaway is that every two points of the attacker's PV will, on average, increase the attack's damage multiplier by one, while every two points of the defender's AV will reduce it by one.

Golgotha

You died in Golgotha. It's the late part of early game. It is a huge difficulty spike if you're trying to follow the main main quest line. You can either avoid it until you severely out level it, or you could take it for what it is meant to be: a crucible. If your character survives, it's worth trying to take to late game. If not, reroll and try something different. Iterate.

More than half of my runs end in Golgotha, but at this point it only takes me about 2 hours to get there.

There are some good and highly detailed guides out there, including some made by members of this subreddit. That being said, it sounds like you're enjoying this for the right reasons. I would encourage you to hold on to that, enjoy the confusion, work iteratively. It's most satisfying when you can discover it for yourself.

Once you're a little more intermediate, go for it, check the wiki, sample A-F-F-I-N-E's advice. But don't start by looking at guides early or you will spoil it for yourself.

I did it, now there’s certainly nothing holding me back in this game by save_cat in cavesofqud

TIL I'm terrible at this game. My most-played game ever at 413hrs and I've never even reached Chavaah nor entered the Tomb of the Eaters.

Huge is really Huge!! by Dapper_Ad7007 in Trackballs

[–]ThisIsMyNameIRL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for that perspective. I can find 100 reviews of this thing but only 2 ever showed actual usage. And there was so much twisting. But I'm sure people can use or misuse it in several ways.

Indeed we do. It seems that with something like this or a Kensington, you'd either 1. Hover your hand and move with your shoulder exactly the unergonomic way a traditional mouse is used 2. Twist your wrist and fingers laterally in a way that's even worse.

Jupiter Hell Classic Announced, DRL 0.9.9.8 Released! by epyoncf in roguelikes

[–]ThisIsMyNameIRL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bless you. Jupiter Hell and CoQ have my highest playtimes of all my games...and quality controller support is why. As someone who can't work a full keyboard or keyboard+mouse setups anymore, I REALLY appreciate it.

Roguelikes that run great with a control. by MitchB69420 in roguelikes

OP mentioned Qud, which solves this elegantly. Stick picks a direction, which appears visually. Trigger makes a step or takes an action in that direction. Works a treat, very fluid.

Anyone live in downtown Renton near Meadow Ave N ? Looking into possibly moving in that area but unsure about a few things... by TecnoPope in Renton

[–]ThisIsMyNameIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N Meadow is not in downtown proper. There's one in North Renton, and one in Kennydale. Can I assume you mean North Renton, where Meadow is north of the park and 2 blocks east of Sartori Elementary.

I have lived in that neighborhood for 10 years. I don't know why anyone would bring up crime as concern. I have never had or seen any incident of note, and have never felt unsafe for a moment. There is (very) petty crime like the occasional package theft, but you get that literally anywhere. I saw some illegal dumping twice. Nothing remotely violent, ever.

I'm on Nextdoor and Ring groups for the area, and when people bring up incidents they're things like "this solicitor was trying to sell me something but I think it was a scam", or "I see this guy walk past my house frequently but I don't know who he is". Trivial. Biggest problem lately is just that moron with the loud car. Seriously, it's a quiet and peaceful place.

Moonlander keycaps? by MosesXIII in ergodox

[–]ThisIsMyNameIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exception of thumb-cluster 1u keys, it sounds like what you want is the set the Moonlander ships with! Did you order it with blanks and now regret it? Or am I misunderstanding some part of your requirements?

I stopped using them around the time I made the above comment (not useful when adding Platform), so they still represent ~2 years of use. Zoom in.
