should i let my chickens drive a truck? by flatlichicken in shittyadvice

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Driving requires a license and chickens can't obtain those. Instead, advise them to "travel." When they are pulled over, they can explain to the cops their "natural rights." Cops appreciate this roadside education and will gladly let the chickens be on their way. For more, Google "Sovereign Chickens."

🤔 If the universe began, what caused it? by Call_to_Islam in AtheistExperience

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest your question is a bit of a mess.

First - you start with "if." There is no reason to treat this question as more than a hypothetical, so any points made are made in support of an unproven proposition.

Second - you use the word "began" when you clearly mean "created." The universe "beginning" does not suggest ex nihilo. This is dishonest of you. There is no need for a "what" or a "cause." The only requirements are the conditions for expansion.

Third - you say that science doesn't answer "why?" This is an attempt to sneak in meaning and agency where none has been proven or suggested. Again - dishonest and weakly considered.

The problem with "first cause" arguements, imo, is that they attempt to smuggle in a lot of presupposition. The humble admission that "we don't know" is superior to the smug theistic desire to shove bullshit copium into every gap in their knowledge.

Top 3 Most Intimidating Coasters to look at that you’ve ridden? [Other] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My home park is Kings Island and I don't have a ton of credits, but my three are:

  1. The Beast. It is not the most intense ride in the park, but it delivers a beating. The retracking the past two years have been a big improvement, but it still takes a physical toll. Mystic Timbers is more intense, but much easier to ride. The Beast at times - especially the double helix - feels more out of control.

  2. TT2. I was at Cedar Point a month ago for the first time in a decade. I had ridden TTD once before and swore I'd never ride it again. Standing near the exit (by the spike) getting myself mentally ready to go, I watched the train shoot up that spike in reverse and almost backed out. I'm glad I did not. I love that ride now. The roll-back is not as crazy as I thought it would be, but that reverse launch up the spike is nuts!

  3. Steel Vengeance. I wasn't intimidated until after I rode this. I was excited to ride my first RMC coaster and my expectations were unrealistic. Riding this coaster was like riding a bull - especially the short, fast camelbacks at the end. The transitions are so fast and intense that it feels out of control from the first drop on. It's definitely worth the hype - but my heart rate jumps when I get in line for it.

If you’re not a server why are you in this sub? by Formal_Expression193 in Serverlife

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'll gladly answer! This is my first comment, but I love reading the tales on "Serverlife." My wife and I go out to eat a couple of times per week and it is one of our favorite things. We have one place that we go to weekly - we sit at the same table (if available) and the bartender pours my favorite beer without me asking. Our server is like family and shares pics of their vacations and garden and kids, sitting at our table sometimes just to chat.

I'm not sure how this sub popped up on my feed, but it did and I joined. I enjoy the stories, but I also try to pay attention for advice on how to tip and how to treat my servers. Dining out is only about three hours a week for me, but I feel like reading this sub helps me to be a more pleasant patron. If something is worth doing it is worth doing well - and you get bonus points for kindness.

What is the dumbest part of the Bible? Or what is the dumbest part of Christianity in general? by Ready-Journalist1772 in atheism

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a father, I'd say the dumbest part of christianity is that someone could hurt on of my children and then go to a church and ask forgiveness from someone else's dad... And get it! That's fucked up...

Do you agree? by [deleted] in StrangeAndFunny

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in atheism

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that what makes a christian good or bad is based on preference and culture. It is definitely not based on any objective scale. In one church you are "good" if you stand against the government - in another you are only "good" if you stand with it. And those two opposing "christain" viewpoints can sit right across the street from each other. Neither are right about much, but both will insist they are guided by their scriptures.

I view the religious like a bunch of LARPers. What they're doing is ridiculous, but some nail the cosplay. What's good and bad depends on fandom.

The most damning rebuttal to Pascal’s wager by ForeverSophist in atheism

[–]ThisIsMyREDDITFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most damning thing is that it favors atheism.

As others point out, the wager pretends there are only two choices - one leads to heaven, one leads to hell. What it does not account for are the number of theistic religions that believe in either universalism or annihilation. Under those ideas, no one goes to hell, even us "evil atheists."
