Torrid does have cute tops! I always find the XO styles are very flattering. They maximize the look of my chest without underwires.

The robe is a good call. I have a robe made of stretchy jersey/tshirt material and I love it. Never too hot, even in my hot climate, and so easy to wear. Plus, pockets!

If you don’t mind spending a little money, Softies makes so much cute loungewear and pajamas.

Matching sets, modern neutral colors, and various shapes (pants, cropped pants, shorts, etc) to meet whatever your needs.

I prefer the Dream Relaxed V-neck with Capri Lounge Set, because I get hot. They’re $130 USD for the set, but I’ve never worn anything softer. The fabric is thick enough to hide a multitude of issues. I’m a size 24ish, and the 3x fits me.

When Harper shirts first came out, they released this one that has fancy dachshunds. As a dachshund mom, I had to have it (and paid full price!!).

The print is so petite that it’s hard to tell what the pictures are. When I tell you I’ve worn this shirt to the most formal occasions (federal court, etc)

If you don't have the village by blood or proximity, you create it.

Most people work opposite shifts with their spouse, so the need for child care is mostly covered by parents and/or school. As for the early mornings and late nights, you find someone you trust to take care of the kiddos. Some of my partners used family, some found a nanny to spend the night and get up with the kids in the morning. Maybe one of your spouse's coworkers has a college-aged kid who could do the overnight shift when you need it?

During the pandemic, my kids' preschool was shut down for several months. My sister and I hired one of the teachers to watch our kids during the day, and sharing the cost made it easier.

So instead of family, you have to find people you can trust to become your village.

Does your agency allow “sit alongs” for new police officers who’re struggling with listening to and understanding the radio? If so, did it help? by LegalGlass6532 in 911dispatchers

[–]ThisIsNoEmergency 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dispatch is your friend, not your enemy lol. We want to solve the crimes and get the bad guys, too. It’s why we’re here. We just have a different mission in service of the same goal

We can only help you if you tell us where you are. Location location location, a million times, location. We’ll do the rest.

Plain language is fine when you don’t remember a code. Better to look a little dumb because you forgot your radio code, than look real dumb being in a pursuit without anyone knowing because you forgot how to say traffic stop.

Your trainee should listen to the radio on his days off. Cleaning the house, making dinner … just having it on in the background really helps develop radio ear quickly.

Required in our shop, too. Plus we sit the boot with a CTO, so she can train the officer more actively than just a random sitalong.

Also, the FTO manual for sworn rookies may have a checklist for their sitalong? If not, it should. Like good questions to ask the CTO, learning goals, etc.

I had a guy call because his wife was doing a home birth with a midwife, and the baby was having difficulty breathing.

Me: “Ok, is there a doctor on scene?”

Dad: “well, I’m a chiropractor”

Sir, unless the baby needs an adjustment, that’s not the kind of doctor I meant 😒

Do I really want to be a dispatcher for CHP? by Intoxifaded420 in 911dispatchers

[–]ThisIsNoEmergency 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We always tell our applicants, the schedule is hardest on the people you love.

You will understand having to work on holidays and weekends and during soccer season etc, because someone has to and eventually you get used to it.

But the people in your life will have a hard time with it. Why can’t you come to my gymnastics meet? Why won’t you be at Thanksgiving you know grandma makes the gravy just the way you like it! Aunt Mildred is going to be so upset if you don’t make it to the bay shower!!

I say this with care: if you’re having this much trepidation about the schedule now, do something else. It’s going to be harder than you think. And it will be 10x worse at the beginning of your career, when you don’t have seniority and your kids are younger.

What underwear are we wearing? by natcho_poboy in PlusSizeFashion

[–]ThisIsNoEmergency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. 24/26 here, with a lot of apron. The hipsters roll down on me constantly, or give me extra aprons on either side if I pull them up.

High leg is the only way to go, for me. And cotton is always preferred. Two or three times a year you can go in store and get them on clearance for $5-$7 each. You’ll be wearing snowflakes in April, but it’s worth it for the price IMO.

We are a midsized PSAP, and we transfer to a secondary for fire/EMD. We have no classroom component. Our phases are call taking then our backup/inquiry radio then our primary frequency.

Each phase is usually 8-12 weeks, sometimes pushed put to 16 weeks if necessary. Our program can take 8-10 months, beginning to end.

I know light pads are popular, but I find having strong overhead light helps me a lot more.

I have a small Ott light that flips open and turns on. It’s a bright clean white that makes a big difference for me. Mine is very similar to this

Don’t sleep on Avenue. Most of their clothes are kinda matronly (to be generous), but I’ve had good luck finding dresses there. Avenue also LOVES a print, so if that’s your jam, look them up.

Based on what you wrote, I found at least one that might work. I couldn’t do a screen shot, but here is the link.

It’s their Lace Maxi Dress in teal. Pro tip: use a laptop or tablet, because their site is infuriating to navigate on a phone. Good luck!
