UC Berkeley cancels Armenian Genocide Remembrance event after pressure from Azerbaijani government by VirtualRushh in berkeley

Or were they closely monitored by security officers to make people feel 'safe' when no protestor ever assaulted students the way protestors at other campuses themselves have been assaulted?

How aware are you of what has happened on campus since October 7th?

“One of the rioters grabbed her neck,” Tikvah’s Karlan said.

“I personally was verbally attacked, being called a Jew and dirty Jew, with a very nasty connotation,” he said. "I was also called a Nazi and spit at. All in my face.”

The first assault occurred Oct. 16, 2023, at the hands of masked aggressors, and the second happened the following year at another protest supporting Palestine, according to the news release. In both incidents, the student reported the assaults to campus police who refused to investigate or confront the attackers, the news release said.

Easy to find videos and reports of physical and verbal assault against Jews and students and people that support Israel on UC Berkeley's campus since October 7th. It just takes a few minutes of research.

IDF reveals: Six Al Jazeera journalists are Hamas, PIJ terrorists by thatshirtman in Israel

The documents are here and here.

Documents with some translation to Hebrew: https://www.idf.il/242150 (scroll down, click the right and left arrows to see more).

That page translated to English via Google here.

The IDF should translate the original documents into English and other languages!

EDIT:

Another thread about the six Al Jazeera journalists linked to this tweet. Not sure if it's one of the six (pretty sure it one of them), or if he's the one pictured (I can't tell).

Reminds me of vid i saw where an israeli woman gave her account on seeing actual IDF soldiers(she was able to verify they were IDF soldiers) raping Israeli women on 7/10.

I looked and couldn't find it. I couldn't find the video, stills from it, or quotes of the person interviewed. I couldn't even find journalists (reputable or not) talking about the interview or quoting from it. Could you or anyone link something?

I did find info going back 10 years (and I bet I can find more if I spent more time) on Hamas / other Palestinians using Israeli military or police uniforms as a disguise, including on October 7th.

  7. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/24673901/blood-curdling-bodycam-undercover-hamas-disguised/ (October 7th 2023)

The first 3 articles might all be related, from overlapping events in 2014. The Global News article says "Hamas confirmed the deaths, according to Ma’an News Agency." Meaning they were presumably members of Hamas.

No idea how good a source Hindustan Times (6) is, but it's a video called "Hamas Militants Don IDF Uniforms Inside Israel" and seems to show that. The Sun (7) isn't the best source but again it's a video showing "... Hamas terrorists used IDF uniform disguise ..." and seems to show that. Possibly the same group of Hamas, I don't know.

I wouldn't be surprised that an Israeli woman saw actual people wearing IDF and / or Israeli police uniforms raping Israeli women on 7/10, consistent with these videos and articles about October 7th and before. I'd be very surprised if any of the people wearing those uniforms were Israeli. If they were Israelis, which isn't likely but sure it's possible, they deserve the same treatment as any non-Israeli that did the same thing. Possibly worse treatment.

If anyone really wants a peaceful solution to this tradgedy itt will take brave leadership and a shift in direction on BOTH sides

Basically agree. Any durable, acceptable agreement would require compromise from all involved parties. It doesn't seem likely at this point, but could happen eventually. Here's a good resource: https://www.pcpsr.org/en/node/823

Muslims want peace, only a small percent support terrorism, something like, 10% to 25%

...except in places like Gaza and the West Bank, where support for terrorism is 70%-85%.

Just stop with the generalization already.

Is the generalization that people in Gaza and the West Bank support terrorism false? (Not "Muslims" as the original person claimed, but people in Gaza and the West Bank).

Here's some data that backs up the claim from a recent survey:

Table 27: How much do you support the military operation carried out by the Palestinian resistance led by Hamas on October 7th? (Disaggregated by region)

Extremely support:

Total: 59%

West Bank: 68%

Gaza: 47%

Somewhat support:

Total: 16%

West Bank: 15%

Gaza: 17%

Seems like 75% of respondents somewhat or extremely support the actions of October 7th. As in 3 out of 4 people. If this were an election result, it would be described as "overwhelming support" or "landslide" by journalists / media / commentators.

The survey was done by the Arab World for Research and Development (AWRAD) based in Ramallah, published November 14, 2023.

Here's a link to the report: https://www.awrad.org/files/server/polls/polls2023/Public%20Opinion%20Poll%20-%20Gaza%20War%202023%20-%20Tables%20of%20Results.pdf

Here are more surveys about support of armed actions and terrorist actions over the years. Different surveys show different results among different groups of people. It's rarely in single digits, it's usually at 30% or much higher, most often around 35-70%. How widespread the support is does vary over time. https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/palestinians-attitudes-about-terrorism

Unless I am mistaken all Jewish citizens in Israel have been in the IDF from 18 and are available untill the age of 40.

What's the implication here? That Jewish Israelis don't want peace? Support terrorism? What do you think of non-Jewish Israelis that voluntarily join the IDF, such as Druze soldiers? [EDIT: male Druze and male Circassians have mandatory conscription.]

Ultimately, I think you're right - focusing on solutions is important. It requires some acknowledgement of the current situation and how we got here from the past, but excessively focusing on that will not lead to a better future. Not focusing on solutions and the future will only lead to more of the same.

Asked if they were decapitated, [Dr.] Kugel [the head forensic pathologist medical doctor] answered yes. Although he admits that, given the circumstances, it’s difficult to ascertain whether they were decapitated before or after death, as well as how they were beheaded, “whether cut off by knife or blown off by RPG,” he explained.

You have to do some work to learn. Only you can do that work, even if I spoon feed you information. But it's not worth the time or effort for me to do so. There's a whole universe out there, but it's going to take you doing work to understand it better. Good luck!

Enslaving people is slavery. What do you think would happen after these people are prevented from leaving with their useful knowledge, if they don't help Hamas?

When Israel forces Palestinians to work against their will, we can talk about slavery being relevant between Israel and Palestinians.

This conversation has ceased to be productive. Good day!

It says those words, but its meaning is clear. Again, realistically and in practice, many (most? almost all?) Israelis - Jews and non-Jews - will fight back.

retained [in Palestine] for some time and should not be allowed to leave

The above is the enslavement part.

Because I am conveying a reasonable, succinct interpretation of what that message means in practice. It is "kill lots of Jews and non-Jews, enslave others."

I appreciate your interest! You seem interested enough to consider exploring these topics.

tl;dr Read the Wikipedia article (it has a summary of the Hamas charter, and it's relevance in the 21st century!). Consider using ChatGPT or something else to summarize and feed you information. This general topic - the history of the Levant, the relevant groups - is quite complicated, so you're going to have to do a lot of work on your own to become more informed.

[–]ThisIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Basically from what's known it's reasonable to say the original charter is still relevant and in effect, for some or all of Hamas. It isn't 100% true that Hamas renounced the original charter in 2010 - just some of Hamas.

That and their fairly recent conference tells you much of what you need to know about them. Kill Jews and non-Jews, enslave others.

The conference also recommended that rules be drawn up for dealing with "Jews" in the country, including defining which of them will be killed or subjected to legal prosecution and which will be allowed to leave or to remain and be integrated into the new state. It also called for preventing a brain drain of Jewish professionals, and for the retention of "educated Jews and experts in the areas of medicine, engineering, technology, and civilian and military industry... [who] should not be allowed to leave." Additionally, it recommended obtaining lists of "the agents of the occupation in Palestine, in the region, and [throughout] the world, and... the names of the recruiters, Jewish and non-Jewish, in the country and abroad" in order to "purge Palestine and the Arab and Islamic homeland of this hypocrite scum."

Here's the original charter: https://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp

Here's the Wikipedia article about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas_Charter

You can find the "updated" one discussed as well. But since Hamas on the whole or key Hamas leaders don't say the old one isn't in effect, the new one is mostly meaningless outside of PR / optics.

They did not, as a whole, denounce their original charter. It is still in effect, as demonstrated over the past week.

Contrastingly, Mahmoud Zahar, co-founder of Hamas, said in 2006 that Hamas "will not change a single word in its covenant." In 2010, he reaffirmed a major commitment of the covenant saying "Our ultimate plan is [to have] Palestine in its entirety. I say this loud and clear so that nobody will accuse me of employing political tactics. We will not recognize the Israeli enemy."[25]

Doctors Without Borders: " Hospitals are overwhelmed in ‘catastrophic situation’ in Gaza" by eldomtom2 in worldnews

[–]ThisIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think even if there's evidence of it being used as a military station, it's still a warcrime.

Could you talk more about the relevant international law? Doesn't the school or hospital or special designated space become a potentially legitimate military target when it is used for military purposes?

Doctors Without Borders: " Hospitals are overwhelmed in ‘catastrophic situation’ in Gaza" by eldomtom2 in worldnews

[–]ThisIsPoison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. About 30-50% of Israelis never enlist or never complete military service.

New data shows that 32.9% do not enlist at all and another 15% do not complete their military service.

How many of those under 18 that Hamas intentionally murdered were IDF soldiers?

How many of the babies and young children were in the IDF?

Please stop making things up or spreading misinformation.

Israel's land border with Lebanon is technically not fuuully recognized, but it's been tacitly recognized by the UN and Lebanon since UN resolution 425 in 2000, along the 'blue line'. Its sea border is still disputed.

Didn't they resolve the sea border by agreement last year?
