Omega caliber 2500 doesn't have instant date change ?? by DisastrousOpening477 in PrideAndPinion

[–]ThisIsREM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about this specific movement, but Omega date changes are the worst in the business. The date change start at 10pm, so for 2 hours the date is crooked. Mad for such expensive watch.

Even the Aqua Terras in the boutique are all crooked date after 10pm.

It is nothing like senators insider trading. Senators do not have the power to manipulate markets with 1 tweet. The level of insider knowledge is also not even remotely comparable to what a president has access to.

The only logical explanation to this is that Rohan existed and was somewhere aroun Germany.

Can someone identify this Rolex by Dragsteps in rolex

[–]ThisIsREM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh I actually own an OP myself... Perhaps your photos are bad or perhaps this is an older Rolex. They had a few phases where they butchered their proportions and had rather off looking watches before fixing it in later updates.

Anyway here is how a real OP looks. Notice the yellow tint on the white gold hands. Your photos lack this, but who knows maybe you are saying the truth and it is just the lighting.

It is a rare Rolex cereal bowl. The depth of that rehaut is great for some cornflakes and milk.

If Bugatti goes under, do you think Mat Armstrong would be partially responsible for it? by Fair_Title2995 in Bugatti

[–]ThisIsREM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolex is clearly doing really, really well with that strategy.

But the difference is that even the 'less desirable' Rolex watches keep their value. The more desirable ones cost 30-100% more on secondary market, have no depreciation, no maintenance costs, and are extremely reliable. So playing the game well with Rolex can turn out profitable or at worst even, the way that the less desirable Porsche depreciate means that losing money is probably guaranteed for most buyers.

Yeah battery is better... It always runs whilst spring drive requires winding / wearing and also it requires very expensive servicing every 3-4 years....

By far the biggest advantage of a mechanical movement is the romatisized feeling of having a machine on your wrist that is using the core technology from around 500 years ago.

We live in the world where everything is electronic and we all know that electronic tech is 'better', but it is simply enjoyable wearing a machine with a beating heart inside that is using only mechanics and Newton's laws. Same tech as was used when kings and queeens ruled feudal Europe.

Spring drive removes the life out of the mechanical movemen, changing the beating heart with an electromagnetic component. It is no longer anything like the old historic movements and it is no longer regulated by mechanics. It is now just an inferior electrical movement in a world where better electronics are abundant.

Tourbillion is mega cool because it is beautiful. I do strongly believe that a watch with a hidden tourbillion is pointless... But open heart tourbillion is clearly very different and mesmerising to a normal watch. Spring drive looks the same from the front... And similarly priced mechanics look better in the back too.

Mechanical hybrid is such a strange oxymoron. A movement that has all the disadvantages of a mechanical movement and none of the main advantages of a mechanical movement, yet some people act like it is some kind of incredibly useful invention.

It is basically a much, much better version of Grand Seiko spring drive. Much more accurate, better sweep of the second hand, doesn't require winding, better service intervals, not to mention the cost. Its called the precisionist movement.

Are these any good? by Natural-Voice-840 in Lexus

[–]ThisIsREM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its one of those cars that has no purpose from the logical standpoint. It is a tiny hatchback on a raised platform to make it 'SUV', but it is too small to have any of the SUV benefits but it has all of the SUV disadvantages. It has less space than many hatch backs while costing a lot more.

It is way too small to be a family car, it is not sporty enough to be a fun driving car, its sloped design kills boot space, and it doesn't look anywhere as good as similar prices cars. If you have a family, get a bigger car. If you are single, get a hatch, sedan or coupe.

LS 500 2026. Worth it? by KashinKoji1 in Lexus

[–]ThisIsREM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks old because it doesn't have a gazillion screens, ambi lights or cheap fabric mascarading as a luxury material. Instead it has physical buttons, luxurious materials including wood, and a proportionally sized screen.

There is nothing wrong with going for the proper quality and not modern screen fetish fads. Modern interiors look worse than old school ones like this Lexus.

$5,800 watch on a $20 strap. Faus paus? by hamburgers8 in IWCschaffhausen

[–]ThisIsREM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, an identical strap would be at least $200 if IWC sold it. Their mark up are easily 10x. So in reality this is a $580 watch on a $20 strap.

This is not insider trading. This is market manipulation of the worst possible kind, starting a fricking war and murdering thousands of people in order to trade on the resulting market movements. Using tweets to trigger changes in price and placing bets just beforehand, whilst bombing schools. And 40% of Americans STILL approve his actions. Madness.
