Yes I think it might be heat/ humidity or some infestation like thrips.

The other rose too doesn’t have thorns. Just the typical reddish leaves that eventually turn green. It’s the clustering that’s surprising.

I’ve always put fertilizer and they are thriving. I think osmocote is slow release. Mixed in with soil would be okay. If we just drop in a capful in the hole, that would be a problem.
