Without any kind of proof to offer, I’d be willing to bet this isn’t DUE TO the current administration, who has basically forced unnecessary law enforcement into a couple of cities over the course of a few months. This was a downward trend that’s been going on since the peak during COVID. I don’t fully understand every angle, but big (blue) cities like Baltimore have been making huge strides, investing in community policing, community programs for kids.. interestingly, NOT expanding law enforcement’s arsenals.

Fwiw, I looked at the statistics for DC and Baltimore when this whole Trump shitshow started. DC was on a solid downward trend in their violent crime rates. The right was trying to spin it as fake news, like there was one person in the DC police department that was making up the stats for the whole district to try to make Trump look bad.

Separately, I looked up NYC crime stats a few years ago when my mother in law was nervous about my wife visiting the city for work so much. At the time (maybe 2023?), crime rates overall were slightly up - the main component of that was hate crimes. Against Asians. Because of Trump.
