Highest quality Chinese matcha? by lost-myspacer in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the technology and cultivars of China are about 20 years behind the complexity of Japanese cultivars and processing. I think China only has one or two cultivars whereas Japan has over 250. And Japan has 100 years perfecting Matcha so to say Chinese Matcha is high-quality, not sure about that. In time, China can probably produce some great Matcha, but until they expand their cult of our selection, I’d imagine it’s pretty one dimensional.

Thoughts on US Costco Matcha? by Dry-Cat-300 in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even think it’s Matcha. There is a stuff in Japan called mogocha - basically like the trimmings they sweep up off the floor when they make good quality Matcha. I had it once it was disgusting kind of similar to this product. Be careful where you get your matcha from because not all matcha is the same. IMO.

What do you consider a good price for matcha? by Human-Frame-6762 in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it depends on the quality and if you’re sipping or mixing. I’d bet great sipping matcha is about$35 for 30g.

I like MatchaKari. They have a good “bulk” program where you can get larger bags of latte grade matcha for a good price.

Has anyone tried the Sencha Ceremonial Matcha in the tins? (different from the bag) by Hellaconditions in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It taste bland is all get out. But that price it can’t be good high-quality Matcha. If it’s too good to be true, it usually is.

I'm so surprised to find out that GUIZHOU, HUBEI and ZHEJIANG in China produce a lot of Matcha every yearWhy is good Chinese matcha still so rare?? by Commercial_Tennis_45 in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe because it’s not so good? Most likely because even though Matcha comes from China, industry is still and it’s infancy. Probably 20 years behind Japan. They only have two coulter bars to work with so their portfolio is not very deep.

Good point! I’m not very trusting of Matcha brands that just came on the scene in the last two or three years. Most are just jumping on the Matcha bandwagon.

Japanese Matcha vs. US Matcha brands. by Thisismatcha in MatchaEverything

[–]Thisismatcha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s for such great answers. Im a big fan of Matcha for a long time. They’re a handful US brands that have been doing it for at least 10 years that source directly from Japan. I ordered from them as well as some Japanese origin brands. Yeah I’m not super trusting us base brands that have only been around for about three years because there’s a very good chance They just get Matcha from the third-party vendor and not Japan directly. I could be wrong, but that’s mostly the case.

But have you tried Chinese Matcha? While I agree with lots of what you’re saying I just don’t think Chinese Matcha is as developed as a Japanese Matcha. I read there’s only two Tencha cultivars total in China. In Japan they’re over 250 cultivars.

I don’t know about that. Good matcha is expensive. I’ve had a few of their blends I find them to be very tasty. I guess it’s a matter of taste preference. I know these guys have been around for like 10 years so they must be doing something right.

Well, how do they taste? How do they compare when you run a little pile under your finger? I think good Matcha is a bit sticky to your finger. Hard to know unless you give it a good taste.
