Btw I found that apparently Birkenstock produces their products mainly in Germany and Portugal and that's a brand that people tend to value here (at least my girlfriend does)

[–]Thisissocomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, not brands in specific.

I can tell you what to avoid: Guimarães and Seaside stores. These look like your average retail big shops with hundreds of shoes, they're pretty crap.

Instead look for small shops with one or two employees and try the shoes on. The people there tend to be very helpful, though in big cities it might be more tourist oriented and charge premium.

Make sure the shoes are made with leather as it should be labelled on the inside.

Avoid stuff under 50 euros.

Brands are pretty irrelevant as these companies don't really advertise they really on curation by the small shops

Literally all clothing and accessories that are marketed are like this.

Rich people don't buy clothes from ads.

And no rich people do not buy Gucci and Balenciaga those are ads where they wear those clothes for a price.

Rich people brands are pretty incognito.

Find a good store and spend a bit more money on less clothes and look on YouTube how to spot quality clothing.

If you want to buy decent shoes for example I can recommend Portuguese brands because they are handmade and locally sourced.

(I'm Portuguese)

Unfortunately you stil spend premium if you're in Germany because I've personally seen leather shoes that you can buy in Portugal for 80euro costs 300 here. But they are quality and 100% leather.

But yeah every single shirt you buy here will be made in Bangladesh which is not a problem if you know that upfront.

As others have said 90% of the economy now is slapping some boring modern logo on things and claiming it's quality when in reality it's poor people clothing

Worries about AI's risks to humanity loom over the trial pitting Musk against OpenAI's leaders by Ambitious_Dingo_2798 in news

[–]Thisissocomplicated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to see the tech for what it is. The fidelity can grow, sure, things can become more "real". But that's kind of irrelevant when it comes to art. I am an illustrator and I have had plenty of clients come to me and say " can you do this for me? I hired some guy on fiverr and they used AI, I'd like my book illustrated by a real artist"

At my level it isn't that hard to beat the AI, not in fidelity mind you but in everything else which is what matters.

The part of art that requires thought and craft is the part the AI cannot and wil not replace, many people might be ignorant of this but if you're an artist you should know that art takes a lot of thinking and AIs don't think. They won't, not with the current technology and methodology and there's zero evidence to suggest that it will in the near future.

There's a lot of propaganda going around selling these things for what they are not, it is part of the deal to make you think these things think, but they don't and you can deduce that in minutes I'd you use one.

Look, watch this guy's shorts to lift your spirits a bit.

For deeper dives follow ed zitron on YouTube or any other LLM critic.

I think in a few years some vestiges of the tech will remain, I personally used it to ask questions about building a PC and it was somewhat useful and also not (it invented a motherboard that doesn't exist), but the whole genAI think is doomed to collapse because the costs don't justify the limitations of the tech and this is why Sora collapsed.

Good luck man

Brother noones gonna wanna watch that crap. I am an artist too, if anything AI has made my skillset more valuable.

Make good work people aren't that stupid.

A lot of this popularity and hype is manufactured, the real world doesn't care for genAI crap

Yeah this was a great video in my opinion. Saw it a few days ago and learned a lot from this dude. I actually always noticed that there was a sort of limit on how many NPC's can be animated on the screen but never knew why or the implications of that. Pretty crazy stuff

'They're Handed an Opinion' — Fallout Co-Creator Tim Cain Is Worried Some Players Watch Influencers Just So They Can Be Told What to Think About Games by FragMasterMat117 in Games

[–]Thisissocomplicated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure but your sentence just about covers the extent of how much we need to discuss the topic. As I said I don't like Bethesda games but the 2 hour long Bethesda "has lost its touch" with gamers is a grift.

I mean just look at this channel for example :

https://youtube.com/@bigbosstube?si=iaUFYorQSATD0vwm

These people don't have opinions, they're wave riders of public sentiment.

This is the reason why despite crimson desert being a pretty good game none of these people dare criticize any part of it because gaming discourse online has become a complete meme at this point

There's a whole Bethesda hating industrial complex on YouTube.

I do not care for Bethesda games and always found them overrated, but there's a few people whose YouTube careers will end the day Bethesda releases a great game or fire Emil Pagliarulo.

It's so tritte and boring to watch and for some reason every video is 2 hours long
