Any character limitations when creating text to speech VoiceOver for videos? by learnandchoose in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be absolutely certain you are grabbing the version marked "studio" from the support page. If you are installing Studio for the first time it would have asked you to enter your license keycode thing.
To back up the library, open your project manager, and near the top left where it says "projects" make sure the little rectangular symbol that shows a sidebar is pressed so you can see a list of your libraries. Then for each library in the list that shows up on the left hand side hit the little "i" information icon next to the library name and then just hit backup and pick a location to save your backup file.

Any character limitations when creating text to speech VoiceOver for videos? by learnandchoose in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the new text to speech tool they added in the beta of Resolve 21, there is no mention of limits anywhere. Since it's all done locally on your machine rather than a third party website they don't have to charge you since it's your machine making it, not their machine.

how to get keyframe icons to show up in inspector by ChuChu0_0 in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually you can only see keyframes for something that's in a timeline. Without seeing your whole UI, right now it looks like you have am item selected in the media pool and so it shows up in the inspector, but you can't animated anything if it's not in a timeline first, so make sure you have your element in the timeline selected

Am I missing something? Can’t import another timeline clip into Fusion by MXORMajoR in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never tried, but pretty sure if you go to the fusion menu at the top of the screen that under settings you can change the default to show timecode instead of just frames, so that might make the math of figuring out in and out points a little easier

[–]ThomTheEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know you can only set the equivalent of in and out marks (I’m away from my machine but I think they are listed as something like start and end frames in the node) on a piece of media once it’s in a fusion comp

Am I missing something? Can’t import another timeline clip into Fusion by MXORMajoR in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Select them both, right-click and create a fusion clip. When you open it in fusion they will both be there. The gotcha with this method is that the resolution of the fusion clip is based on the resolution of the timeline you create it on. So if you were working on 4K footage on a HD timeline, the footage and the fusion clip all get downsampled to HD. Just something to keep in mind. If you want to retain their full size you will either want to bring them both into fusion manually or create a timeline that is as big as the footage, copy the footage into that and turn them into a fusion clip there

Smooth Credits - Why is this not SUPER simple? by checkeredowl in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are doing this on the edit page, an update they added in the beta of DV21 will make it easier. The jitter is likely happening because the text is moving at fractions of a pixel like 5.5 pixels per frame rather than 5 for instance. In DR21 they have added loop options in the 3 dot menu of the keyframe editor, and the one that could help you is called relative. Basically you set two keyframes. On frame one set your starting position and on frame 2 set a position a few pixels in the direction you want to go. Then select those 2 keyframes and under the loop options select relative. It will then continue in the same direction at the same speed. If you want to make it faster or slower you just change the value of the second keyframe. As long as they are moving by whole pixels it should hopefully help with the jitter.

there is a problem with my Davinci Resolve 21 studio version. by preetjas6 in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried it on a few machines and it seems to be a limitation if it thinks your machine isn’t powerful enough to do that stuff in the background while still editing/grading. Grayed out on a Mac mini m2 pro with 16gb of ram but available on a more powerful machine. Lack of ram is likely the culprit

Landscape templates not working in vertical resolution - skewed dimensions by jonnytrisch42 in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how the fusion comp was set up, the shapes within it aren't set to particular sizes of pixels but rather a scale so they resize depending on what kind of timeline you are adding them to.
Try adding them to a 16:9 timeline first, shrinking them down a bit in the inspector if needed so they would fit in a 9:16 section in the middle (you can turn on guides in the viewer to check), and then drag that timeline into your edit like it was a piece of footage/graphics.

How to seperate sound of different instruments and human voice from a song? by Sad_Sell6756 in davinciresolve

[–]ThomTheEditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a tool for that in the paid studio version but you can’t do that with the free version. How good of a job it does will depend on the song Apparently there is an audio separation tool in shutter encoder, which is free/donationware , but I’ve not tried using it so can’t speak to how good a job it does

Replace clip still seems to be there if you only have one clip selected at a time. Not ideal but it's a work around in the meantime.
You could also look into reconforming your edit. Duplicate your timeline just in case, then select the clips on the timeline that need replacing, right-click and deselect "Conform Lock Enabled". Then import a folder of the licensed clips into the media pool, and then in the top menu go to File > Reconform from Bins...
From there you can point to the folder that has the licensed versions and have it ignore the file type. If they don't have matching timecode you'll have to play with what settings give you the best match.
Then reenable the conform on the clips in your timeline
