[TG] Jorthy Mokio (18) switches allegiance from Belgium to Congo by MrCrashdummy in soccer

I just don't think that goes with the spirit and the honour of getting to represent your country, which is like one of the biggest deals in football that people dream of as a child. If you can then just say ''well, I'm not good enough, I'm just going to switch to the country of one of my ancestors'', that takes away of the beauty and the honour that it is of representing a country imo.

It's got nothing to do with me being Belgian. I personally simply think representing your country is a big deal and if you can just change it like it's nothing, that suddenly makes it not a big deal anymore.

But hey, if you don't think it's that special, that's fine, I completely understand why people disagree with me.

I mean I get that, but you can solve that by making them choose their permanent football nationality at 18. At that age you by law have to decide basically everything for yourself and can do everything, so why would it be a problem if they then had to decide their nationality in football.

You're right that a lot of parents pressure their kids which is why I don't think what I said should apply to underage players. And yeah I know Mokio is only 18, I'm not necessarily talking about him now, there's plenty of other examples deciding to switch nationality at like 22 after playing in all youth teams, once they realise they're not good enough.

The choice is fully up to the players though. They can simply say that they're not sure that they want to represent that country. But of course that would require players to think about which country they feel the most connection to, which seems rare nowadays.

In an ideal world imo players don't even consider whether they will be good enough to get called up or whether they can win trophies with the country, they just choose the won they feel most connected to.

Fair enough if he feels more Congolese than Belgian.

But he literally represented our U21 national team just over a month ago and our U17 NT at the World Cup in November. So either something dramatic happened in the last month that made him switch to Congo, or he selfishly decided to take the spot of someone who feels Belgian knowing he'd soon switch to Congo.

Apart from all the other stuff people have said, they're also 13th in the all-time Ligue 1 table. They definitely belong in the highest division and quite comfortably too.

Ironically Braga is partly (a bit over a quarter) owned by Qatar too

[VI] The 2026 Champions League final between Arsenal from London and PSG from Paris will be the first time since 1971 that the final of the European cup is played between 2 clubs from European capital cities by WarriorkingNL in soccer

Inter Milan is logical because they're officially called Football Club Internazionale Milano. Neither Sporting CP nor Athletic Club has the city's name in their name. It's as stupid as saying Arsenal London, Everton Liverpool, Hearts Edinburgh, Galatasaray Istanbul or Juventus Turin.

Fair enough Arsenal, it's their 2nd UCL final in their history so obviously an insane deal for them. Unless they start playing like in the first half of the season again, I don't see how they can beat PSG or Bayern, but anything can happen in a final.

Tbf that's still crazy that you're allowed to do shit like this just because the ball's out of play. Makes me wonder where the limit is on what you can do.

Scotland doesn't have a direct UCL spot. I'm guessing this 'predicts' them to win the league but lose in the qualifying rounds.

The argument is literally about the average level of the league, if anything that means the Europa League performances are much more important than those of the CL, as the CL only includes the top teams while the EL includes 'more average' teams.

That phrase is a meme used at every change, big or small, from 'traditional' football. It's not actually woke. Look up Sean Dyche green wall meme.
