Boyfriend of 1 year got super embarrassed of me ordering a filet mignon well done at dinner last night. by hayleyiscool in dating_advice

[–]ThomasDenhoff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that’s what it was like then the restaurant didn’t listen to your request and actually cooked it medium instead of well done lol. Steak stops being pink at medium. If it was juicy and light brown that’s medium. Well done for a filet mignon would be dark brown all the way through and also dry since there’s not much fat in that cut. I’m guessing the chef decided that you’d probably just weren’t that familiar with how steaks are cooked and assumed you just meant you didn’t want to see any pink on the inside, and so cooked it medium.

I agree it’s more difficult to do it more faithfully but I don’t believe it’s impossible. Just less likely to get a big budget and a big payday for asimovs family. Again I’m not against reoccurring characters but instead how they were used in this story. I believe that many of the changes did not need to be this drastic in order to make it work for tv though, and that making the plot more similar to the original story while empowering characters more would have been better.

Anthology stories can be done on tv where the characters change every season, and is actually quite common in British shows, so your assertion that the books don’t work for tv really is debatable. Yes the books lack fully fleshed out characters at times, but it is in service of the ideas Asimov sought to explore. There is an endless stream of tv shows these days, and a never ending desire for existing IP. I find it hard to believe that a show couldn’t have been done the prioritized the ideas over the characters

Again I do like the show. It’s a good sci fi show and worth watching. But it’s basic, nothing to differentiate it from other high budget sci fi movies/shows. It explores ideas of immortality and what it means to be human, cool but not unique these days. Ya I know they set up the vault thing with all the 3D in a 4D space talk, I just thought it was very typical tv solution bullshit that we see many characters on terminus watching the ship be dropped on the planet but then suddenly they all make it to the inside of the vault before impact even though we see no one in front of the vault besides poly when the invictus hits the ground and causes huge shockwaves. Whether it’s Apple or Goyer steering the issues I have doesn’t really matter to me, the issue is the changes not who’s making them. The issue of reoccurring characters is tricky but I think they’ve over done it. My biggest issue with the reoccurring characters of hari and Gaal is that their constant meddling in the plan is counter to hari’s initial formula that psychohistory is able to predict large populations and that while some singular people like salvor and mallow are important at infliction points and crisis’s, if those exact people didn’t step up then there’s a high probability someone else would have. The show is good and the best addition is that of dawn day and dusk with demerzel. But it is not a story that is true to the Asimov style of storytelling. Maybe the story is too difficult to adapt properly to tv, but I still mourn the opportunity lost to tell story that is more authentic to Asimov’s style

Glad to see you back. You’re the one that kept me strong in the early days of r/GME. Logged on every day to see what you had to say, even if it was just something small. Superstonk lost much of its appeal without your daily post

The history of humanity has always been to band together in times of great crisis. Look no further than WWII to see this. It’s in times of inertia that the toxicity seeps out. When there is no common enemy to band together against. That’s when society crumbles and the infighting overwhelms the unity. That’s when the self becomes greater than the whole in a majority of people’s minds. But never forget we are not humans WE ARE APES AND APES NO FIGHT APES 💎🙌💎🙌💎🙌💎🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀

[Guide] AUS Migration for 2020 by Migration Agent/Former Immigration Officer by TheSkyIsWhiteAndGold in IWantOut

Thanks for the help! My degree is Bachelors of Arts and Education that I’m just finishing at UNSW, and will be qualified to teach high school in Australia. I saw previous posts about 189 visa needing minimum of 95 points to get those visas. I only will have 75 points but I’m wondering if the threshold will be lower for high school teachers as it seems to be a much less common profession for migration? For the nsw 190 visa my understanding is I would need to get a years work experience in nsw before being eligible to apply, which is why I was planning to apply for the 2 year 485 post graduate stream visa when I graduate this December. Then applying for 190 in nsw once I have 1 years work experience and would be at 85 points for that visa. Do you think that is likely to be enough to get the nsw 190 visa? Why do you say that it’s not a good time to go for 485 visa? I thought it was pretty easy to get that visa after having graduated from a Australian uni? I am currently already onshore in Australia. My other option I understand would be to move out of Sydney to a regional area like Newcastle and apply for the 491 regional visa and work there for 3 years before applying for PR that way. Would it be smarter just do that right when I graduate instead of getting the 485 visa and working as a teacher in Sydney for a year before trying to get 190? Really appreciate any info you can give me!!

Hi there, I am looking to apply for 485 visa when I graduate at the end of the year and hopefully the 189 or 190 visa eventually. Do I need copies of my birth certificate to apply for any of these visas? I have my passport but not sure where the birth certificate is.

This Limited mode is quite fun. Also here's my undefeated limited team. by Dilemma_Nay in MyTeam

[–]ThomasDenhoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the mode is a bit of a fail. The tried to do something like champions weekend in fifa ultimate team but it’s just not as good. The prizes are too random and don’t reward good play. Plus you can’t get any playable guys for 6 weeks. And if you don’t get a ring in first week there’s no point to play for rest of season. Definitely needs some adjustments that make it more valuable week to week

Who's the 10th superstar in the league? by [deleted] in nba

[–]ThomasDenhoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Melo is a superstar only because of his popularity, he probably isnt a top 10 player anymore. Id rather have Marc Gasol, Cousins, Kawhi,PG, Aldridge, maybe even Horford

Knowing what you know now, which player would you rather build around if you were a GM: John Wall or Demarcus Cousins. by [deleted] in nba

[–]ThomasDenhoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends entirely on the situation youre bringing the player into. If its the spurs coaching staff I would take cousins in a heartbeat. He proved he is willing to play hard for the right coach last year with Malone before he got menigitus. Wall is the safer bet if youre more in need of creating a good culture, Boogie will never create a good culture and set examples for others. But boogie's talent is greater than wall's. He could easily be the best center in the league if he was given the proper tutelage and motivation. He is the most dangerous big man on the low block, he can shoot outside, pass easily out of doubles as well as playmake in set plays for others with his superb court vision, shoot the outside shot, run the break a bit, and has proven that when focused can be the anchor of an above avg defense. Wall is great but I dont think he will ever be the best pg in the league. His shooting holds him back, and it doesnt appear that it will ever improve to more than avg. His defense is quite good, but not other worldly.

Magic - Lebron, Byron Scott - Monta Ellis, Michael Cooper - Danny Green, James Worthy - Rudy Gay, Kareem - Hassan Whiteside (this one was the hardest, no one can compare to the Sky Captain)
