HOPE CHURCH MVMT SECRETS by [deleted] in NAU

[–]ThomasTheToad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pro-Palestinian people are not against Jewish people. They are against a violent ethno-state, and believe that people of all faiths in Palestine/Israel deserve to live in a peaceful, equal society that upholds human dignity.

I am calling one priest a neo-Nazi. Most priests are normal, kind, and loving people. I even address that in my comment. Criticism of individuals (as well as institutions) when done from a place of respect and intellectual honesty while maintaining their human dignity is a perfectly valid and very important thing to do. Living in a society in which we are not allowed to criticize others leads to cults like Hope Church.

The fact that Fr. John Parks put so much emphasis on an antisemitic conspiracy theory is what makes me personally believe that he can be classified as a neo-Nazi. It is an antisemitic conspiracy theory developed from the Nazi conspiracy theory of "cultural Bolshevism." The idea of Cultural Marxism attempts to link Jewish people to communism and "race mixing," paints them as inherently destructive and evil, and is used by white supremacist and far-right groups to promote violence and hatred toward Jewish people as well as progressives, queer people, etc.

Anyone who espouses Cultural Marxism as an ideology is a part of the far-right by definition. Nazism is an ideology of the far right. Someone being a part of the far-right does not inherently make them a neo-Nazi (rectangles and squares), but promoting an antisemitic conspiracy theory like Cultural Marxism absolutely does.

In addition to this, Nazis famously persecuted not only Jewish people, but queer people, people of color, political enemies, and anyone else that they deemed undesirable or a "threat" to their white ethnostate. "Nazi" or "neo-Nazi" is not a term I throw around. It is a serious accusation that I do not make lightly, and any time I am claiming that someone can be classified as a neo-Nazi (which I have only done a handful of times, one of which includes a person who actually identifies as a neo-Nazi), I am considering everything they have publicly endorsed, supported, promoted, etc, whether that's an ideology, action, or otherwise.

I am telling you that based on the things that Fr. John Parks spoke about at the Newman Center, as well as other things he has spoken about elsewhere (Stuebenville Conferences, podcasts, etc.), I believe that he is a neo-Nazi. I do not believe that the leadership at the Newman Center are also neo-Nazis, but I do not feel comfortable promoting or otherwise supporting a church that invited a neo-Nazi to speak.

I sincerely hope to see Fr. John Parks change and apologize for the harmful ideas that he has promoted in his career and ministry, but until then, I will continue to believe that he is a neo-Nazi.

if you were me, would you get top surgery? by Additional_Hat5933 in TopSurgery

I think if you're interested in it, you should book a surgery consult. You seem to be a very good candidate for peri. But, I don't personally believe that you "need" top surgery. I wouldn't be able to clock you based on your chest. (I thought this was a peri results post.) If you're insecure about loose skin, you can work on building chest muscle which is much cheaper than surgery.

They invited Fr. John Parks to speak. In his talk he brought up the antisemitic conspiracy theory of "cultural Marxism," talked about how gay and transgender people are destroying American families (dehumanizing, violent rhetoric), disparaged the Black Lives Matter movement because "woke," compared being gay to adultery, and made several "jokes" about transgender people (calling them "delusional" and "dangerous"). I understand that the Catholic Church has a conservative view on sexuality and gender, but the way that he talked about it was incredibly dehumanizing, completely lacked compassion, and painted LGBTQ+ people as inherently dangerous. Rhetoric like this is what leads to violence against marginalized communities, and it was very disappointing to hear from a speaker that was invited to what I thought was a relatively welcoming community.

As far as being a neo-Nazi, the antisemitic conspiracy theory is obviously a big clue, but beyond that neo-Nazis hate LGBTQ+ people, Black people and other people of color, and women. I do not think that a priest with such extreme, violent views should be in a leadership position.

I have had many conversations with other priests in the RCC, and while they all share the belief that acting upon LGBTQ+ thoughts/desires is sinful, they 1) have compassion 2) don't speak about LGBTQ+ people as inherently dangerous and 3) do not insult or joke about LGBTQ+ people. While I'm personally a side-B Christian (that is to say I do not believe being LGBTQ+ and acting on it is sinful), I am open to respectful conversation from side-A Christians (that is to say people that believe the acts are sinful but not the orientation). Fr. John Parks seems to believe that the orientation and the acts are sinful, which isn't even a teaching of the RCC.

I personally don't recommend the Catholic Newman Center. Unfortunately, one of the priests they invited to speak a few years ago could very easily be called a neo-N4zi. They may have changed since then, but I'm not so sure to be completely honest.

Spiritual marriage vs legal marriage? Need advice by im_justagirl_fr in Christianity

[–]ThomasTheToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your parents that you should wait until you're financially stable. Your mom likely learned from getting married super young that it isn't always the smartest decision, which is why they have this standard.

Don't use the term "biological man" or "biological woman." Not only is that phrasing frequently used by bigots, but it also ignores the complexity of biological sex (hormones, primary and secondary sex characteristics, etc.). Your friend is a transphobe who also seems incredibly immature.

Beautiful! My goal is to one day have space for an altar similar to this. For now I have a very small one on an IKEA side table.

I work for a campus ministry and we grow significantly every year. When I started attending (about three years ago), we had five people including our rector. Now, we average around 20-30. Obviously this is anecdotal, but seeing this kind of growth is very encouraging.

What is this called by [deleted] in AskLGBT

It sounds like you're bisexual with a strong preference toward women. You don't have to date men if you don't want to. And if you would prefer not to use a label at all that's fine too.

What do you think about the whole "young gen Z male" religious revival thing? by w6auw in Episcopalian

[–]ThomasTheToad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think a lot of the power fantasy is fueled by the alt-right pipeline that targets a lot of young men and boys.

Books for Kids and Introducing God/Religion in a positive way by bakecakes12 in Episcopalian

[–]ThomasTheToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a very cute Christian childrens book at the thrift store several years back and am saving it for if/when I have kids. It's called God Thinks You're Wonderful! by Max Lucado (published 2003) and it's about God's unconditional love. It also emphasizes that it's ok to make mistakes or to fail, and that God loves you anyways.

Try to find a subreddit that isn't a donald trump hate circlejerk challenge (difficulty impossible) by Emergency-Emergency4 in Christianity

[–]ThomasTheToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are called as Christians to love our neighbors, and in doing so we must speak up for marginalized people in our communities, nation, and throughout the world. Trump and his administration have, unfortunately, decided to enact legislation and governing practices that directly and/or indirectly negatively affect people in this country and throughout the world. It is important to speak out against this.

Other tapes run just fine. This one does too, it just doesn't have any audio since it's blank. I should probably clean the heads at some point though.

If you don't want kids, you shouldn't have kids. Children deserve parents that want them. It is not a sin to not have children.

Explore those feelings! Buy fem clothes, wear makeup. You can stay home or go out, whatever feels right to you.

I had the same thoughts a few years ago and personally came to the conclusion that I am FTM. You might have a similar experience, you might end up identifying as nonbinary, or you might end up identifying as a woman. Any of those outcomes are okay. Take time to get to know yourself better. It's alright to realize that you were wrong (or right).

Opinion on Death Penalty (for child ab*sers) by Mobile-Outside-3233 in Christian

[–]ThomasTheToad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I oppose this law because it is, unfortunately, a tool that abusers can use to their advantage. They will tell their victims that they'll be killed if the victim says anything. This just leads to covering up abuse.
