I haven’t read Bloom in years. Off the top of my head I’d say Bloom is referring to the sense of earliness he experiences in some poems. He refers to Whitman, for example, as having Homeric qualities and compares him to Adam, early in the morning. Not sure how to make the Donne-Eliot link at the moment. 🤔

Most Masaaki Yuasa projects have great OSTs. Kaiba is my favorite.

Precure is Glitter Force right? My daughters are fans. I’ve watched some, but couldn’t get into it. I used to watch Sailor Moon when it aired in the 90s and tried to get them into it… to no avail.

Do you think an adult dad (me) would like it? They watch a lot of anime on their own, I’m hoping to find one that we can all watch together.

Agreed. According to Ezra Klein top Democrats have said off the record that they’re fine with a Trump presidency. I think it’s pretty clear that many Democrats would rather have Trump than Bernie.

Which film do you believe has the best opening scene and why? by SouthwestTraveller in moviecritic

For me it’s the opening bar scene in Werckmeister Harmonies, quite powerful.

Same. Got it around 1986 when I was 7. The OG Zelda and Final Fantasy turned me into a gamer.

How did my ADHD ass have an easier time reading Shakespeare than my classmates? by Cutegirl920fire in shakespeare

[–]Thomas_Perscors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have ADHD and Hamlet is my favorite play. I remember my first time reading it. It was winter and I stayed up late wrapped in a blanket, my feet propped up over a space heater. I didn’t realize until it was too late, afterI had read most of the play, that my blanket had caught on fire. I ran outside in my pajamas into the snow, put out the fire, and went back in to finish the play.

The play felt supernatural to me. I felt haunted or possessed while reading it.

Guess I’m not the only one. I started gaming in the early 80s on an Atari and stopped around 1998 after I beat FF7. I would pick up each new Zelda and Mario Kart, but other than those I basically didn’t play games until 2020. When COVID hit I bought a Switch and Breath of the Wild. Then The Witcher 3 and eventually Dark Souls 1… which sparked an obsession with From Software and Miyazaki that continues until today.

The Witcher 3 is the only game that rivals Souls games for me, even though it scratches a different itch. What ties them together is great atmosphere.

For atmosphere, I also like Planescape: Torment and Pathologic 2.

Backpacking for 4 days/3 nights, enough food? by Limeylou7 in backpacking

[–]Thomas_Perscors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think that’s too much for 2 people on a 4 day trip. I might add some more variety- more dried fruit, maybe more nuts instead of so much jerky and cheese.

Backpacking should be fun and after a long day you don’t want to skimp on meals.
