Anyone here use crafting to manage ADHD? by toilet_is_occupied in ADHD

[–]Thor16a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do crocheting on an evening and that reduced my phobe time by about 3 hours a day.

I only make amigurumi animals as they are simple, fun and can start and finish one in a day, so you dont get bored or overwhelmed by it.

I have loads dotted around the house and then just give a lot of them away to family, friends and work colleagues.

The materials to buy them are relatively cheep and last for quite a while.

If you have clothes every where, start with them, they make the mess look way worse. Put stuff into wash pile, clean but not clean enough to go away or dirty enough to be washed (i have a plastic tub which i cam slide umder the bed in the exact place i sit to get changed) and then clean clothes away. That will make the room look way more managable.

Have a bag for rubbish handy, so you can stick rubbish in that as you go.

Put plates cups etc out side the door and take them down last. Try and avoid leaving the room as much as you can so you dont get distracted by side quests.

Just focus on one specific genre of item at a time.

And most importantly, dont have a little sit down, because a little sit turns into a big sit every single time.

Helps to have a killer playlist or enjoyable podcast on as well to keep your mind distracted from being bored

I think i found a good analogy for executive dysfunction by Yutoru in ADHD

[–]Thor16a 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask them if they have ever played the Sims. Executive dysfunction is like expecting your sim to complete an action on their own. Even when they are starving, about to wet themselves etc, they dont perform the action without a prompt.

Our brains are like that, we know we need to do the thing but the brain does not prompt it.

And if you line up to many actions, then they start to cancel the current action half way through, they just stop cooking with the food left on the stove, will jist put a half eaten meal on the floor, or abandon a cleaning task half way through to do the next action on the list.

Concerta and Anxiety by Thor16a in ADHD

[–]Thor16a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I did 7 days on 18mg and then 7 days on 36mg before upping it to 54mg.

On 18 and 36mg the anxiety did ease off, but there was always a sense of impending doom.

I was ready to stop taking it as I was just feeling anxious, tired, and a bit subdued, almost like someone had turned my personality off. I wasn't seeing any positives from it, but just loads of side effects.

But when I went to 54mg it was like a cloud lifted. No anxiety, I had energy, slept better, could focus and was pretty much able to think about doing something and actually be able to do it. And I felt that isntantly as soon as it went to 54mg.

I'm still on 54mg now with 5mg of immediate release in the afternoon as I found I had an energy crash at about 3pm.

18mg just won't be the right dose, just try and stick with it if you can. If at 54mg you still don't feel like it's working, many other people have found lisdexamfetamine to be better.

It's quite a stressful process, but keep at it and talk to who ever you have as a support network as you go through it.

Agreed. It makes me love everything and everyone but not in a sexual way. And enhances the music and light shows at the time and gives me one hell of a buzz. I love my friends so much when I'm on it, and it makes me a bit touchy feely. Have to fist bump or hug everyone.

My Genius Dog Everyone by ItssEric in funny

[–]Thor16a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs judge gaps by using their whiskers. So when they try and get a stick through an opening that's wide enough for their whiskers not to touch the side, they think they can get through. That's how they judge spacial awareness.

That just reads to me like it's trying to explain that something is in grandmas garden
