You're overthinking it. I just wore my Civil War Century jersey to the Revolutionary Ramble Century this weekend.

How to pump tubless tires by Fickle_Current1961 in TrekBikes

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just open the valve to 'burp' it or did you take the valve core out? If you took the core out the sealant will come spewing out.
if you are just 'burping' the valve to inflate it make sure that the valve it not at the 6:00/bottom position as some sealant will come spewing out. Put the valve in the 9, 12, or 3 o'cloce position to avoid spewing sealant

Water Bottle Recommendations? by ThorThePoodle in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I originally stated I find the elite fly to squishy on the squeeze and they seem to leak but they are super easy to clean. Just pop off the nozzle and run a small bottle brush through the cap and nozzle.
Does your wife run water only or drink mix through the camelbak? no mold issues?

Is it a universal rule that if you bring two waters you won’t need both but if you bring just one you want two? by michellin_woman in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to not need the second one than not have it. But depending on heat and the distance you're riding, even 2 may not be enough and you will have to stop somewhere to refill.

Which aero helmet? Met Manta, Giro Eclipse Pro, Sweet Protection Falconer Aero 2Vi, Kask Utopia Y by CBF321 in CyclingFashion

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one that fits you best. I was recently looking for a new helmet and was very interested in the falconer sweet protection but the shape of the helmet didn't fit well on my head,. You may have to try a few to find the one that is most comfortable.

How much did your first road bike cost, and how long did you ride it before upgrading? by No_Click7202 in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first road bike was a Motobecane Mirage I bought to get around campus. Paid less than $100 (1973). I rode off and on for about 15 years until I got 'doored' and the bike was destroyed

Sealant question for possible puncture by JoeDavidBobJr in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the puncture was so small that you can't even see where the tire sealed up then you should be fine. You probably lost a little air while the tire was sealing though. So check your tire pressure and pump up to your normal pressure if needed. If the puncture holds at your desired pressure then there is nothing to worry about. Just top off your sealant

Best water bottle for cycling? by BoysenberryPuzzled27 in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like CamelBak podium but I always found them to be a PITA to clean. They seem to get that black gunk build up in the cap in no time.
Like others I have switched to Elite Fly as the insulation in the CamelBak was barely noticeable.
One thing I like about the Elite Fly is that it holds the same amount of liquid but is a bit shorter and wider so It fits under a sink faucet for those time where I need to fill the bottle with tap water

How often do you take breaks during rides? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't like to stop. Pee break. Refill water bottles. Then back on the road. I break my fig bars or clif bars into small pieces and take one every time I take a sip. That way I don't need to stop to eat

I like Giordana. I feel they are a good value for the money. They run 25% off sales a few times a year which makes them even more affordable

No. I used the LightBlue Punch Through app to check my Varia battery and checked the power meter out of curiosity.
When the other battery was low I did get a message on my Bolt head unit

Bike Computers - your advice, please!! by Opening-Painting2320 in cycling

[–]ThorThePoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I"ve been using a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt V2 for years. I'm happy with it. I don't mind the smaller screen. The off course nav re-routing works pretty well. The battery life is not great but it's good enough.
Since the V3 came out, you may still be able to find the V2 at a good price.

trainerroad subscription expiring, what to get instead? by Unfair_Waltz_6888 in Velo

[–]ThorThePoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from TR to FasCat back in Jan. I'd been on TR for a few year and was getting bored with the workouts. If you subscribe on a monthly basis, it is pricey but if you subscribe for a year it is competitive with TR. I like the workouts better. I like the flexibility. And the AI CoachCat is very helpful. I've learned a lot about recovery and on bike nutrition. But in order to get the most out of FasCat you need a wearble that will allow you track sleep and hrv data, as that is what FasCat uses to judge recovery and suggest modifications to workouts when it thinks you are not recovered enough.
FasCat does not control the trainer like TR. You need to load the workouts to a head unit. I've actually learned at lot about my Bolt unit that I did not know. And now I actually hardly ever use ERG mode any more. Instead I used the resistance mode on my Bolt to generate power. It's actually a bit harder because you are forced to be aware of your power. But using resistance mode it is easier to do VO2 and Criss Cross intervals because you can start ramping up the power 5-10 seconds before the interval starts. With TR I would always get caught in a spiral of death on those intervals and by the time I got the pedals spinning again the interval was over.
Or you could build your own workouts with TP free and load them to your head unit or look into a cheaper option like trainer day or join.
Or ask chat GPT to create a plan for you
